Description

The present invention relates to a knife, the handle of which is coated with an elastomer. Such a knife is known in particular from FR-A-2,541,919, which served for the preparation of the preamble of claim 1.

This knife is in particular intended for professional uses, in particular uses having a character of continuity or semi-continuity over time.

The invention relates to a knife as claimed in claim 1. Taking into account the kind of activity which a person intending to use the knife according to the invention must deploy, the elastomer to be used for coating the handle of the knife must be of a type which is capable of adequately absorbing the shocks to which the knife may be subjected, which offers good resistance to sliding even in contact with fatty substances, which is unassailable by conventional detergents, and which is capable of withstanding at temperatures of at least 120 degrees. Thus, by way of example, it is advantageously possible to use as elastomer a synthetic rubber based on styrene-butadiene (Buna), or based on ethylene-propylene, or based on polyacrylic esters, or even thermoplastic elastomers based on polyesters. -poly- ethers.

The above-mentioned elastomers are, inter alia, capable of being perfectly welded to the plastic material, preferably of an impact-absorbing type (belonging to the class of polyamides, for example), in which the tail of the knife blade is embedded .

  • - La figure 1 est une vue de côté du couteau selon l'invention;
The handle knife coated with an elastomer which is the subject of the present invention is described in more detail below in relation to one of its preferred embodiments for the understanding of which reference will be made to the drawing of which:
  • - Figure 1 is a side view of the knife according to the invention;
  • - Figure 2 is a sectional view along the line AA of Figure 1; and
  • - Figure 3 is a sectional view along line BB of Figure 2.

The knife forming the object of the present invention and which is shown according to the preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, comprises a sharp blade 1 (of hardened steel or stainless steel, for example) and a shank 2, connected to the said blade, the tail of which is embedded and supported by a coating 3 of artificial plastic material which, in turn, is covered with a layer of elastomer 4.

As can easily be seen from the examination of the drawing figures, the said elastomer layer is interrupted in an anterior region 5, and in an intermediate region 6 of the handle, this to allow the coating of artificial plastic material to be inserted (in the production phase) in the said regions, until reaching the level of the outer face of the elastomer layer.

This constructive feature makes it possible, among other things, to anchor said elastic layer securely to the coating of rigid plastic which serves to support the tail 2 of the blade 1.

It is obvious that the shape and the dimensions of the aforementioned sharp blade and of the handle are characteristics which do not come within the scope of the invention.

Claims (1)

  1. Knife appointed to professional use, including a cutting blade (1) as well as a blade tang (2) which is connected with the same blade, wherein this tang is dipped in a supporting embedding (3) made of plastic artificial material, which is likewise covered by an elastomeric layer (4), characterized by the fact that the aforesaid layer in at least an anterior zone (5) and in an intermediate zone (6) of the handle is interrupted, in order to allow that the embedding made of plastic artificial material can be inserted (during the manufacturing process) into the aforesaid zones until to reach the level of the external surface of the said covering layer; whereas this practical realization allows that the elastomeric layer (4) can be steadily anchored to the embedding made of plastic material (3) which performs a function of support for the tang (2) connected with the cutting blade (1 ).
