Description

The invention relates to an ironing roller, in particular for the laundry business, which rotates in a trough lack with the supply of heat, the ironing or ironing roller consisting of a hollow steel drum with sieve-like perforated material, a gas-permeable cushion layer which is self-springing in the radial direction and a textile covering, e.g. Molton cloth, needle felt or the like. Is formed, and wherein the padding layer consists of elastic silicone rubber, the padding strips have distributed perforations and the padding strips are applied by helical winding on the drum shell.

The elastic underlays for hot ironing or ironing rolls are subject to relatively great wear due to the action of heat and mechanical stress, the requirements for the elastic underlays relating in particular to heat resistance, uniform elasticity and also to long-lasting durability. It is already known to use silicone rubber as a suitable material for the elastic cushion layer and also to provide the cushion layer with perforations which are arranged in an approximately radial direction. The formation of the cushion layer in relation to the removal of the water vapor or the condensate in connection with the durability has not yet been satisfactorily resolved.

The ironing roller consists of a metal cylinder, the surface of which is perforated, an elastomer layer made of silicone rubber and a coating of molton or other fabric. The elastomer layer is provided with perforations which are intended to connect to the outer clothing in order to achieve drying by the steam coming out of the laundry into the intermediate space of the machine. No statement is made about the depth of the perforations. After the entire structure of the cushion layer has been closed, it is obviously important for the cushion layer that the elastomer layer is drained to the outside and not to the inside. This also results from the fact that longitudinal grooves are arranged on the outside of the elastomer layer, which come into contact with the clothing. The thickness of the silicone rubber layer is only a part of the total thickness of the cushion layer, which still has a base layer of unknown composition. With such a structure of the cushion layer, no sufficient drainage of the cushion layer can be seen. There is also no provision that the perforations in the relatively thin layer of silicone rubber are not compressed by the high pressure.

In the case of a calender, it is a matter of the outer layer resting very solidly on a cylindrical metal jacket or as an imperforate tube. If such a calender roll is coated with silicone rubber, this coating on the calender has the task of interacting with another calender roll under pressure, the outer layer of the calender roll should have a certain hardness, which is indicated for the calender as 55 Shore. A calender has significantly different tasks to perform than a hot ironing and ironing roll.

The object of the invention is to provide an ironing or ironing roller, the cushioning layer of which, with uniform elasticity, ensures high heat resistance and long-term durability as well as reliable and flawless removal of moisture and the condensate. The invention is characterized in that the holes through the thickness of the cushion layer are held in the range of 4 to 10 mm in diameter and are connected by grooves arranged on the underside of the cushion layer, that the cushion layer is made of a mesh or braid insert Glass fibers or metal is provided, which is vulcanized into the silicone material, and that the silicone rubber has a Shore hardness in the range of 50 to 75, preferably 55 to 65.

Such a combination of features results in a cushioning layer that meets all requirements of the sometimes contradicting demands. The cushion layer of the invention guarantees a relatively high elasticity with sufficient resistance. This ensures that the moisture or steam condensate is highly absorbent, even with high pressure. The perforations remain open even under high pressures, which is essential for the functionality of the upholstery layer. The cushion layer or the cushion strips of the invention have a high wear resistance and are durable in durability. In spite of their contradicting nature, the advantages are fully retained when operating the ironing roller. The above-mentioned properties result from the interaction of the above-mentioned features that make up the invention, an interaction between the features being noted. The effect achieved is reliable.

The channel-like grooves on the underside of the silicone rubber advantageously have a width of 1 to 2 mm. The cushioning strip advantageously has a roughened surface facing the textile covering.

The ends of the cushion strip are expediently offset in height to a predetermined length, so that the end parts can overlap in a suitable manner. The overlapping end parts can be attached to the steel jacket of the drum by means of screws, Rivets or the like respectively. In order to prevent tearing, a sheet of rust-proof material is advantageously vulcanized into the end part, whereby the sheet can be provided with barbs. This results in a secure and reliable connection of silicone rubber strips placed together to form a continuous cushion layer.

The ironing or mangle roller has a steel drum 1 which has a drum jacket 2 which is provided with perforations 3 distributed in a sieve shape. To form a cushioning layer of resilient type on the circumference of the steel drum 2, a strip 4 is used, which is helically wound onto the perforated circumference of the steel drum 2.

The strip 4 consists of temperature-resistant, in particular heat-resistant, at least up to 240 ° C., silicone rubber which has a Shore hardness in the range from 30 to 70 in terms of its elasticity. The Shore hardness is preferably 55 to 65. The silicone rubber strip has at least one mesh-like or braid-like insert 5 made of glass fibers or wire made of stainless steel, brass or the like on the inside. which is vulcanized into the silicone rubber material. The silicone rubber strip is also provided with perforations 6, which are regularly or irregularly distributed in a sieve-like manner over the surface of the strip. The perforations 6 go completely through the thickness of the strip. On the top side, i.e. the side facing the textile cover, the surface of the silicone rubber strip is provided with a roughening 7. The roughening can be produced by roughening the surface in a mechanical or chemical manner. You can also equip the outwardly facing surface of the strip with a regular corrugation, preferably of a lighter type, e.g. B. by means of parallel or crossing grooves of shallow depth. In this way, slippage of the textile cover can be avoided with certainty when working with shortages.

In order to support the removal of air and steam from the cushion layer lying tightly on the surface of the drum of the roller, the perforations on the side of the strip facing the drum are interconnected by channels, grooves or the like. connected to one another, as can be seen from FIG. 4. These connecting grooves between the perforations 6 ensure that the vapors or the like formed during ironing are completely drawn off into the interior of the drum and from there to the outside by means of a fan. Condensed water and the like cannot remain in the upholstery position. The grooves 8 expediently connect each perforation to the adjacent perforation at least once. In suitable cases, the grooves or channels 8 can also only run horizontally and / or perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the strip.

The padding strips made of elastic silicone rubber can be so long that they are sufficient to wrap the drum from start to finish and do not need to be put together. In the case of drums of larger diameter, the strips may come together. For this purpose, the end parts of the strips are formed at different heights. There are tongues 10 and 11 of about half the height of the strip. These tongues 10 and 11 are brought to mutual overlap, the attachment to the steel jacket of the drum by screws, rivets or the like. can take place which reach through prepared holes 12 and 13 respectively. To improve the overlapping connection, a sheet 14 can be vulcanized into an end part, which is provided with perforations 15 which correspond to the holes 12 and 13 in the tongues 10 and 11. In this way, the tensile force arising in the connection is transmitted to a larger area of the end part of the strips. The sheet 14 is appropriately roughened on both sides or with barbs or the like obtained by punching. Mistake.

Depending on the size of the drum, which can be in the range from 180 mm to about 1,600 mm, the thickness of the strips can vary. For the middle range of drum sizes, the silicone rubber strips are held in a thickness of approximately 8 to 12 mm. The perforations 6 can be 4-10 mm. The holes on the hollow steel drum are generally much larger, e.g. B. 12 to 15 mm in diameter. Due to the large number of perforations in the jacket of the steel drum and in the wound strips of silicone rubber, there is a guarantee that a sufficient number of perforations of the strip and the drum will overlap, so that the steam can be drawn off and the like. there is no obstacle. The width of the strip for the medium size range of the drum can vary between 40 and 60 mm. A standard width of 50 mm is advantageous. In the case of smaller drum sizes, the width of the same can be kept smaller, e.g. B. go down to about 25 to 30 mm. The channel-like grooves 8 can have a width of 1 to 2 mm.
