Abstract

A knife to be mounted in an oscillating tool for cutting through the adhesive that fastens a window pane in place, especially in a motor vehicle. To reduce the risk of damage to its edge and to the window frame or other areas of the vehicle body, the knife has a rest made out of a soft material, especially plastic, associated with at least one side of the blade.

Description

The invention relates to a cutting knife for a cutting tool with an oscillation drive for cutting through the adhesive layer of a bonded pane, in particular on a motor vehicle (such a cutting knife is known, for example, from DE-A-3 210 212). In modern motor vehicles, the windows, in particular the front windows, are glued to the body to achieve a more favorable drag coefficient and sometimes also for other reasons. When replacing the pane, the sometimes very solid and tough adhesive layer must be cut through. This is not possible by hand, at least with a satisfactory result. As a result, cutting tools with an oscillation drive were developed, with which this adhesive layer can be severed very quickly, so that the replacement of a damaged disc, as far as cutting is concerned, no longer poses any problems. However, it has been shown that the oscillating knife, which is not guided in the adhesive layer, can run sideways out of the adhesive layer and thereby cause damage to the body or, generally speaking, to the frame of the pane. It is also disadvantageous for the knife itself if it strikes a metallic body.

The object of the invention is therefore to develop a cutting knife of the type mentioned at the outset so that the risk of damage to the knife and frame, in particular on a motor vehicle body, is at least reduced.

To achieve this object, it is proposed according to the invention that the knife is designed according to the preamble of claim 1, corresponding to the characterizing part of this claim. By attaching a support stop made of soft material, in particular plastic, to a knife blade, the latter can either be guided on the frame via this support stop or supported on the mostly metallic frame when it runs out of the adhesive layer, so that damage is avoided. Another advantage is that metallic contact is avoided, which leads to a considerable reduction in noise.

The support stop must be attached on the one hand so that this support is carried out with certainty on the support stop and on the other hand does not hinder the latter by cutting through, in particular the insertion of the cutting knife blade into the adhesive layer at the start of the cutting. If the support stop is not already in contact with the frame at the start of the cutting process, the cutting knife must be guided so that it may run out of the adhesive layer to the side on which the support stop is located. This applies to a version in which there is only a support stop on one surface of the knife blade.

In the case of a cutting knife which is angled twice in opposite directions to form a fastening part and a cutting part, a special embodiment of the invention consists in that the support stop is attached to the cutting part. Both in terms of its shape and its size, for example its thickness, this support stop must be adapted to the dimensions of the cutting part, in particular on the section of the cutting part to which it is directly attached. For the rest, the attachment is to be carried out in such a way that it resists the load occurring with the oscillation drive. It is also important to ensure that the plastic has sufficient mechanical strength to withstand the mechanical loads that occur, i.e. the service life of the support stop should correspond to that of the cutting knife or knife edge as far as possible. In the cutting knife described above, the cutting part runs slightly inclined to the level of the fastening part, for example at an angle of approximately 15 °. Otherwise, the cutting edges can be designed in a known manner as double cutting edges, and high-quality knife steels that can be hardened can be used as the blade material. “Soft material” means a plastic that is softer than the knife blade and the material to which the adhesive layer adheres.

A further development of the invention provides that the support stop is located in the area of the free, in particular tapering, blade end. The width of the blade or the surface supporting the support stop is of the order of half to a full centimeter. The support stop can be made correspondingly wide. However, it is possible that the support stop also has a slightly larger width than the knife blade at the attachment point.

In the case of a cutting knife with a cutting edge formed at the free end of the cutting knife, a further embodiment of the invention consists in the fact that the support stop is designed as a roller or a peg and it is approximately with the cuttingless one; preferably closes stronger part of the cutting knife. It forms a kind of depth stop with which you can support and guide the cutting knife during the entire cutting process.

A preferred embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the outside diameter of the support stop is slightly larger than the width of the knife blade at the fastening point, it protrudes slightly on both sides in particular. In the case of a chronically tapering blade surface, the latter is of course wider towards the fastening end than the outside diameter of the support stop, as the corresponding embodiment of the drawing shows.

According to another variant of the invention, it is proposed that the support stop be designed as a plastic sheathing of an area of the knife blade or of the intermediate part. This cutting knife can be supported not only on one side, but at least on two opposite sides via a support stop.

In the case of a cutting knife which is angled twice in the same sense to form a fastening part and a cutting part, a preferred embodiment of the invention is that the support stop is located on the intermediate part between the fastening part and the cutting part and he in particular is adjacent to the cutting part. In particular, when the support stop is attached to only one blade surface, it is advantageous if a harmonious transition from the support stop to the angling, which is usually carried out in a radius, is made towards the cutting part.

A further development of the invention provides that the support stop is designed as a dome or bead and is assigned to the outer surface of the intermediate part of the approximately U-shaped cutting knife. The curvature of the tip can certainly be matched to the bending radius of the cutting part or correspond to this.

Another embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the section of the intermediate part carrying the support stop has a smaller thickness than the rest of the intermediate part, this section and the support stop together being approximately the same or slightly stronger than the rest of the intermediate part. Depending on the elasticity and size of the support stop, the latter is compressed more or less elastically, particularly in the shape of the dome. If the support stop or the free tip end of the loose knife protrudes slightly, this projection can correspond approximately to the amount by which the support stop is compressed elastically during operation. For the rest, it concerns small sizes in the range of approximately one millimeter or in the tenth of a millimeter range.

A further preferred embodiment of the invention consists in that the support stop is formed by a plastic sheathing, a region of the intermediate part that is reduced in thickness in particular. Here too, a thickness of the order of magnitude of approximately one millimeter is possible, with a blade thickness of approximately the same order of magnitude. If the thickness of the intermediate part is not reduced, or the support stop is assigned to the non-reduced area of the intermediate part, slightly different values may result, because the non-reduced area of the intermediate part or the fastening part usually has a thickness of the order of about 2 mm.

However, this does not imply that for certain applications the knives are also used as a flat design, as shown in FIGS. 1, 3, 5: and 7 or only curved ones are used instead of the angled versions. In addition, the shapes and in particular the fastening bores 1 (polygonal) and 2 (round bore) are only to be understood, for example, because this is at least not essential in connection with the design according to the invention. The outer contours that result from FIGS. 1, 3, 5 and 7 are only to be understood as basic representations, from which there can be substantial deviations, which is already evident from the fact that the representations of the figures mentioned are not identical, but are only approximately the same.

According to the invention, the knife blade carries at least one of its blade surfaces, for example on the blade surface 3 pointing towards the viewer in FIGS. 1, 3, 5, a support stop 4 or 5 made of a material which is substantially softer than the blade material. In particular, it is plastic. In the embodiments of FIGS. 5 to 8, the support stop 6 or 7 is assigned to all blade surfaces, i.e. it encases a predetermined area of the cutting knife. In addition, it is conceivable in special cases to also arrange two support stops next to one another or to form them in several parts, if this brings advantages with regard to the frame and pane design.

The cutting knife of FIG. 2 is angled twice in opposite directions, so that a fastening part 8 and a cutting part 9 and an intermediate part 10 are created. The fastening part 8 is provided with the fastening bore 1 and is used for direct fastening to a cutting tool, not shown, with an oscillation drive. The cutting part 9 runs in a plane which, with that of the fastening part 8, forms an acute angle on the order of approximately 15 °. In addition, the thickness of the cutting part 9 is reduced in steps. The thinner section 11 is designed as a double-edged blade and has a two-sided cross-section approximating an ellipse with knife blades 12 and 13 pointing in opposite directions. At the transition from the thicker section 14 to the thinner section 11 there is the support stop 4, which in this variant is in the form of a roller or pin is trained. It consists for example of polyamide and is preferably attached as a cutting knife with the aid of a rivet, in particular aluminum rivet. Fig. 1 shows that the diameter of the support stop 4 is slightly larger than the width 15 of the blade or the blade section 14 in the area of the attachment point.

In the variants of FIGS. 3 to 8, the cutting knife, in contrast to the first exemplary embodiment, is angled twice in the same sense. A U-shape is created. It also consists of a fastening part 1.6, a cutting part 17 and an intermediate part 18 connecting them. The thickness of the latter, like the cutting part 9 of FIG. The support member 5 is formed as a dome and is assigned to the thinner section 19 of the double section 18. It goes harmoniously into the frame 20 at the transition from the intermediate part 18 to the cutting part 17. The total thickness of the support ansehla g s 5 and the dünrteren. Section 19 is approximately the same size or slightly larger than the thickness of the thicker section 21 of the intermediate part 18. In addition, the transition from the thicker section 21 to the thinner section 19 can also be formed continuously or via a short wedge-shaped intermediate piece. In addition, it is entirely possible to place the support stop 5 on the thicker section 21. In the same way, this applies to the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 2. The paragraph-like transition can also take place continuously there.

In addition, in the case of FIG. 6, the step-like reduction of the knife thickness has been carried out on the intermediate part 22, while in FIG. 8 the thickness reduction is provided on the cutting part 23. Accordingly, the sheathing in FIG. 8 leads to a partial thickening of the intermediate part 24, specifically at its end region assigned to the cutting part 23. The support stop 6 of FIG. 6 is assigned to the thinner section 25 of the intermediate part 22 and is dimensioned such that it runs approximately flush on the outside with the thicker section 26 or its outer surface minimally, for example by the extent of the possible compression.
