Definitions

  • the present invention relates to burners, sometimes called “turbulence burners", in which a fluid fuel, such as coal pulverized in suspension in a primary air stream, is introduced into a hearth by means of a nozzle and in which of the secondary air, necessary for the combustion of the fuel, is rotated around the end of the nozzle by means of deflector flaps commonly called “louvers”.
  • a fluid fuel such as coal pulverized in suspension in a primary air stream
  • deflector flaps commonly called “louvers”.
  • the invention relates more precisely to the manner in which the secondary air is supplied to the louvers.
  • a burner of the aforementioned type is described in particular in FR-A-2,054,741.
  • the secondary air is distributed through the louvers from a wind box surrounding the nozzle placed behind the burner relative to the hearth.
  • the characteristics of the helical flow of secondary air are generally adjusted, either by varying the orientation of the louvers around axes parallel to the nozzle, or by varying the cross-section of the passage of secondary air through louvres by acting on the axial gap existing between the transverse walls which determine this passage section.
  • sensors are used for this, for example cells with ultraviolet rays, which must preferably be oriented towards the flame in a manner substantially parallel to the nozzle so as to avoid that, in the case for example of a hearth equipped with several burners, the sensor associated with a burner can be sensitive to the flame of a neighboring burner.
  • the wind box through which the secondary air is distributed has a significant bulk along the nozzle. It is indeed unanimously accepted that a large volume wind box is a sine qua non condition without which a homogeneous distribution of the secondary air through louvers could not be obtained. It is in fact admitted, very generally, that a good distribution of the secondary air requires a prior passage in a kind of expansion chamber in which the secondary air can be homogenized in pressure. As is known, a regular distribution of the secondary air is essential to have a flame well aligned with the nozzle and to ensure complete combustion of the fuel. Irregularities in the secondary air distribution in fact induce air faults or excess air in certain places of the flame, which prevents combustion there being complete.
  • a small axial size and a regular distribution of secondary air are therefore commonly considered to be requirements between which a compromise must be defined according to needs.
  • the axial size of the aforementioned wind boxes which can reach the order of magnitude of their diameter, turns out to be very annoying because it induces in particular a long linkage length for the orientation of the louvers or the adjustment of the passage section secondary air between them. It also requires, for flame monitoring, fairly efficient and therefore quite costly sensors: these are indeed, for the aforementioned reasons, arranged opposite the flame with respect to the wind box and must be capable of detecting the flame from a very minimal solid viewing angle.
  • DE-C-405835 which relates to an oil burner, provides another embodiment consisting in supplying the louvers by two symmetrical openings with respect to the axis of the burner, from a wind box interposed between the burner and the foyer.
  • the object of the present invention is to overcome these drawbacks by ensuring that the distribution of secondary air is as regular as in the case of a wind box, yet with as little axial space as possible, thus simplifying the structure of the elements.
  • the invention thus provides a fan-type burner comprising a light in the wall of a fireplace, a nozzle for injecting a fuel through the light and a combustion air distribution assembly comprising a plurality of deflector louvers arranged in a ring around the nozzle, in the vicinity of the light of the hearth, in order to make the combustion air converge with the fuel in a helical path, characterized in that, to allow a supply of secondary air combustion without air box, the secondary combustion air is injected transversely to the louvers from a plurality of at least two injectors regularly distributed around said nozzle and arranged just behind the wall of the hearth and in that the deflection axial of this secondary combustion air (before its confluence with the fuel) is regulated by means of a flange of. mobile revolution along the nozzle and having openings through which the louvers pass.
  • the burner shown by way of example in FIGS. 1 and 2 essentially comprises a wall 1 of a hearth 2 in which an opening or opening is made 3.
  • a nozzle 4 is disposed outside the hearth, oriented in a direction XX 'perpendicular to the wall 1. This nozzle .is intended to inject through the light 3 a fluid fuel such as coal pulverized in suspension in a primary gas, air most often.
  • the wall 1 carries an axial projection, opposite the hearth 2, a plurality of deflector flaps or louvers 5 arranged in a ring around the end 4A of the nozzle. These louvers are inclined at the same predetermined angle, for example 60 °, with respect to fictitious diametrical planes cutting them.
  • a flange 6 having openings through which the louvers 5.
  • the flange is controlled axially, by means not shown, so as to adequately vary the characteristics of the helical flow of secondary air AS.
  • the latter is advantageously deflected axially before its confluence with the fluid fuel.
  • the secondary air is injected towards the louvers by a plurality of injectors 7 regularly distributed around the nozzle.
  • these injectors are two in number and are diametrically opposed.
  • the flange 6 is axially movable between the wall 1 of the hearth and a transverse wall slightly offset with respect to said wall 1.
  • the injectors 7 inject the secondary air substantially radially between these walls.
  • the injectors must be crossed by identical secondary air flows in flow and in pressure. They are preferably supplied from the same source through two parallel conduits. The balance of flow rates and pressures is ensured for example by a rotating shutter disposed in at least one of said conduits. Alternatively, a diaphragm can be used.
  • Figures 3 and 4 allow to assess the performance of a burner according to the invention compared to that of a burner having only one injector without a wind box.
  • the nature of the fuel does not matter.
  • the injectors are, alternatively, inclined parallel to the axis of the nozzle.
