Definitions
- the present invention relates to an arrangement for identification of objects such as boats, vehicles, skis, windsurfers and the like.
- the object is to be furnished with an identifying code arranged, for example, on a strip or other bearer.
- the code is to be located and decoded with a reading device.
- the object from which the identifying code is removed or modified will be demolished accordingly to such an extent that unlawful appropriation will be meaningless.
- an identification inspection can easily be carried out without provoking the owner of the object to any great extent.
- one or more strips, e.g. a tape, furnished with an identification code which is repeated continuously along the strip, are to be baked into the boundary walls of the object.
- the strip with the identification code can either have a length equal in principal to the extent of the object or can consist of shorter lengths. In the latter case, the lengths are to be placed within the thickness of the walls of the object in such a way and at such a distance from one another that great damage to the object will result from any attempt to remove the code.
- the baked-in strip with the identification code is to be invisible to the naked eye.
- the code is to be of such a character that it can be registered and read with an electronic instrument directly or after external influence with magnetism, microwaves, etc.
- Several known systems for coding and reading can be applied; for example, electrical, photoelectrical, magnetical and optical systems.
- reading is to be accomplished from the exterior of the object.
- a smaller, portable instrument or a stationary instrument can be used and a central databank with the stolen or for other reason sought-after objects' identification codes can be established.
- Users of the detectors can be, for example, police, Customs, coast guard, ski centers, shops.
- FIG. 1 shows a boat with identifying arrangement according to the invention
- FIGS. 2-4 show the identifying arrangement according to FIG. 1 in alternate arrangements, where FIG. 5 shows a ski with identifying arrangement according to the invention and where FIG. 66 shows the identifying arrangement according to FIG. 5 seen from different directions.
- 1 represents a boat with strip 3 furnished with an identification code 4.
- the strip 3 is arranged vertically and horizontally in the outer wall 2 of the boat 1.
- FIG. 2 is shown a part of a strip 3 which extends along the entire height of the boat.
- the identification code 4 is repeated continuously all along the length of the strip 3.
- FIG. 2a shows the strip 3 in a vertical cross section through the outer wall of the boat parallel to the longitudinal direction of the wall;
- FIG. 2b shows the strip 3 in a vertical cross section through the outer wall of the boat perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the outer wall;
- FIG. 2c shows the strip 3 in a horizontal cross section through the outer wall of the boat.
- the strip 3 with the identification code 4 is inlaid invisibly in the wall 2 of the boat 1.
- the strip 3 made up of shorter lengths. At least one identification code 4 is to be on each strip 3. is evident from the figures, the strip 3 can in this case be arranged on different levels within the thickness of the wall 2.
- FIG. 5 is shown a ski 5 with strips 6.
- the strips 6 are arranged parallel to one another and have two identification codes 7 on each strip 6 as is evident from FIG. 6 .
- FIG. 6c is shown that the strips 6 are arranged on different levels within the thickness of the ski 5.
- the strip 3 with the identification code 4 is to be baked into the boundary walls of the object--according to the drawings, boat and ski.
- the strip 3 can even be arranged in other parts of the object. Examples of this are wished details in a boat. By furnishing such details with identification strip 3, these become less attractive for theft.
- the strip 3 can be of such a length that it extends in principal along the entire object in one or several directions.
- the identification code 4 is repeated continuously along the entire length of the strip 3. If an attempt is made to remove the code from an object marked in this manner, great damage will be caused to the object in question.
- the object can even be marked with short strips 3 which are each and every one furnished with at least one identification code 4.
- the strip 3 must occur baked into the boundary walls of the object in such numbers that removal becomes difficult or impossible. If the strip 3 is arranged on different levels in the boundary walls of the object, location of the said strip 3 becomes even more difficult.
- the strip 3 is invisible to the naked eye, but the code 4 can be registered and read with an instrument from the exterior of the object.
- a ski center can be furnished with a portable detecting instrument or with an instrument arranged, for example, under the track to the lift queues to check the identity of the skis.
- the instrument can directly or indirectly be connected to a computer into which are fed identification codes for stolen or for other reason sought-after skis. Even if not all ski centers are equipped with this inspection system, the knowledge that such an inspection can occur should to a great extent prevent theft.
- the arrangement can be used in plastic constructions done by hand in which one lays the strip with the identification code in at a suitable level in the wall. In cast constructions, the strip can best be stretched in the form before casting.
