Definitions
- the invention relates to an application device for underwater paints, with which the paints are applied to the surfaces to be treated by means of a brush or roller, with a drive that sets the brush or roller in rotational movements, and that the brush or roller in seinerrhrer holder of the bristles has at least one through hole through which the paint can be penetrated between the bristles.
- the above-mentioned known paint roller is one which has only been modified compared to the paint rollers known hitherto by the fact that the paint can be fed automatically to the roller body and that the outer roller body, which causes the actual application of the paint on a surface, rotates about a longitudinal axis of the cylindrical roller body.
- the basic principle is that underwater paints are difficult to apply agents that have to meet special requirements for the degree of wetting, the ability of water to be displaced from the surface to be coated and the layer structure. These requirements are only adequately met by chemically crosslinking synthetic resins, preferably by two-component materials based on epoxy resin. The processing of such materials requires, in particular, high contact forces for "massaging in” as well as a continuous, controllable supply of the individual components to the tip of the brush or possibly the roller.
- the object is achieved according to the invention in that the bristles are held by means of a plate-shaped base and in that the handle of the brush or roller is arranged in a chuck which also has at least one through hole which has a feed line for the paints communicates.
- the tubular, elongated housing 13 consists essentially of a rotary union 1 (see FIG. 3), a valve mounting body 5 and an air motor connection valve 4 and the chuck 2 for the brush or roller 3 (the structure of the chuck 2 is described in more detail with reference to FIG. 4).
- a supply line 9 for air is connected to the valve mounting body 5 with the air ball valve 7, by means of which an air motor 8 (speed max. 290 rpm and max. 9 kpm from Bosch) is driven.
- the exhaust air is discharged from the air motor 8 via the exhaust air coupling nipple 12.
- the air motor 8 sets the chuck 2 and thus the brush 3 in rotary motion via a shaft 14 (see FIG. 3).
- a handle 11 which has the shape of a pistol grip, is fastened to the valve mounting body 5. Its upper part 15, which connects to the valve mounting body 5, serves as a bushing for the hose connection 10 for paint and for a valve 6, which can be operated by means of a pressure lever 16, so that the supply of paint can be controlled.
- a hose line 17 leads from valve 6 to rotary union 1.
- FIG. 2 shows a brush 3 as it is inserted into the chuck 2. It has a shortened stem 18 which connects to the bottom 19.
- the base 19 serves as a fastening for the bristles or brush hairs 43.
- Both the handle 18 and the base 19 are provided with at least one through hole 21, preferably lying in the axis of rotation, through which the paint is introduced between the bristles 43 of the brush 3 or is pressed.
- the speed and the required amount of paint are regulated on site by the diver.
- the promotion of the paint is preferably hydraulic, z. B. with an air-less pump, a compressed air-loaded paint container with delivery line or a multi-component mixer and conveyor.
- the through hole 21 is with the
- Feeder 17 in connection This can be seen from FIG. 3, which represents the rotary union 1 (partly open).
- the drive shaft 14 is guided relative to the housing wall 23 by means of a bearing 22.
- the paint is led to the brush 3.
- FIG. 4 shows a further, shortened variation of the invention in partial section.
- the brush 3 is still in the chuck 2, but this is moved by means of a mechanical drive 29. It consists of a drive shaft 50, which is guided through the handle 31 and rotates the (shortened) shaft 14 relative to the housing 1 in the housing 1 via a bevel gear conversion with the two bevel gears 32 and 33.
- the shaft 14 slides on a slide bearing 34.
- the drive motor can be attached to the lower end of the handle 31.
- the through bore 21 is connected to a bore 35 which runs in the axis of the shaft 14 and which is connected to a rotary union 36 at the rear end of the housing 1.
- the paint is introduced into the holes 35 and 21 through this rotating union.
- the chuck 2 (this also applies to the first exemplary embodiment) consists of a nut 37 which can be screwed onto a thread 38.
- the threaded part 39 is clamped, screwed or pressed onto the shaft 14.
- Inside the nut 37 is the actual chuck bed 40, which consists of a disc part 41 with attached fingers 42, similar to a contact brush ring. The fingers 42 are pressed against the brush base 19 during tensioning.
- the paint can also be supplied by valve control.

Description
The invention relates to an application device for underwater paints, with which the paints are applied to the surfaces to be treated by means of a brush or roller, with a drive that sets the brush or roller in rotational movements, and that the brush or roller in seinerrhrer holder of the bristles has at least one through hole through which the paint can be penetrated between the bristles.
An application device of a similar type, but which is neither intended nor suitable for the application of underwater paints, is known (US Pat. No. 4,175,300). This is a typical roller for applying paint to flat surfaces such as walls, ceilings or the like. Paint rollers of this type have the disadvantage when handling them that evenly applying the paint even when manually applying the paint to the outer surface of the roller before applying the paint is difficult to do, and it is also difficult to apply the paint evenly on the desired surface to be applied. The above-mentioned known paint roller is one which has only been modified compared to the paint rollers known hitherto by the fact that the paint can be fed automatically to the roller body and that the outer roller body, which causes the actual application of the paint on a surface, rotates about a longitudinal axis of the cylindrical roller body.
It is not possible to apply paints to a hull that is under water or the stilts of a drilling platform that is partially under water.
The basic principle is that underwater paints are difficult to apply agents that have to meet special requirements for the degree of wetting, the ability of water to be displaced from the surface to be coated and the layer structure. These requirements are only adequately met by chemically crosslinking synthetic resins, preferably by two-component materials based on epoxy resin. The processing of such materials requires, in particular, high contact forces for "massaging in" as well as a continuous, controllable supply of the individual components to the tip of the brush or possibly the roller.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a safe and economically working device for applying underwater paints which, with a substantial increase in the area coverage, enables a reduction in the consumption of the paints, which also automates, shortens the processing time and the set-up time. and cleaning work times allowed, and that a continuous supply of the paints is possible to enable a uniform application of the paints on a surface.
The object is achieved according to the invention in that the bristles are held by means of a plate-shaped base and in that the handle of the brush or roller is arranged in a chuck which also has at least one through hole which has a feed line for the paints communicates.
The dependent claims reflect advantageous developments and embodiments of the application device.
The invention is illustrated below with reference to two exemplary embodiments using FIGS. 1 to 4.
Fig. 3), einem Ventil-Montage-Körper 5 sowie einem Luftmotor-Anschlußventil 4 und dem Spannfutter 2 für den Pinsel bzw. die Rolle 3 (der Aufbau des Spannfutters 2 wird anhand der Fig. 4 näher beschrieben).1 shows the side view of an application device which has approximately the shape of a spray gun. The tubular,

Zuführung 17 in Verbindung.
The
21 eingebracht. The through
The chuck 2 (this also applies to the first exemplary embodiment) consists of a
The paint can also be supplied by valve control.
