Abstract

The signalling system uses signal lights evenly spaced in a continuous sequence along the edges of the road and coupled in groups, each having a respective photocell control. This is adjustable to respond to a given restricted visibility level being reached to switch the signal lights into operation. The lights are subsequently switched out of use when the photocell control detects improved visibility. Pref. the signal lights are associated with standard means for designating the road edges, e.g. kerbstones or guide barriers.

Description

The invention relates to a direction signaling system in a continuous sequence along the road edges to make driving easier for the vehicles when visibility is difficult due to fog.

As is well known, the visibility conditions, which are hampered by fog, form a dangerous impediment to flowing and safe road traffic for the motor vehicles and vehicle users. While with a clear view of the road itself as well as on the roadside fixed information or protective devices such as guardrails, railings, bumpers and the like. represent a driving or steering aid for the driver, these means are difficult or not visible in fog and are therefore not sufficient to effectively display the course of the road.

Serious and frequent accidents are unfortunately the result of insufficient visibility of the roadside in fog and other information or protection devices that should show the course of the road.

It should also be noted that the fog is not always uniformly dense and coherent; rather, depending on the weather conditions, fog banks and fog walls form occasionally and temporarily, which quickly and suddenly change in density and location can. This represents a further cause of fatigue and danger for the drivers due to the continuously changing visibility of the roadside and other means which are intended to indicate the course of the road.

It is an object of the invention to eliminate these difficulties that occur when driving in fog or at least to reduce them as much as possible.

This object is achieved according to the invention by a light signaling system in a continuous sequence along the roadside to make driving easier when visibility is difficult due to fog, the essential feature of which (claim 1) is that a traffic road along photocell controls are arranged which are directed through the fog caused changes in visibility influencing road traffic, with corresponding electrical power supply points within groups of electrical light signal devices, which are arranged along the roadside at a mutual distance, in a continuous sequence and as fixed means of delimitation of the roadway, the sensitivity of the photocell controls to a predeterminable level The value of the darkening ability of the mist can be adjusted in order to "switch over to closing or opening the electrical" To effect circuit lines for connecting the groups of light signaling devices in such a way that as soon as fog forms in the area of the photocell controls with a darkening capacity equal to or greater than the predetermined value, the photocell control unit provides the electrical connection of the corresponding circular lines and therefore the power supply for the associated group triggers electrical light signal devices and thus causes their activation so that they indicate the course of the road as light indicating means, while when normal visibility is restored, the light signal devices become de-energized as a result of the switchover to opening of the associated electrical circuit line caused by the photocell control.

According to a modified embodiment, the electrical light signal devices can be assigned directly to suitable, fixed information means for displaying the course of the carriageway (claim 2).

The invention is described in more detail using an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing.

The single figure of the drawing shows schematically and in simplified form a top view of the light signaling system according to the invention in a continuous sequence along the road edges to make driving easier for the vehicles when visibility is difficult due to fog.

In detail, the figure shows a traffic route, designated overall by 10, of which, for example, three successive sections 10a, 10b, 10c are shown are.

With 11, the roadway al such (in the illustrated example, two-lane game) is designated, while with 12 the side, the roadway 11 of the road 10 border strips are designated.

According to the invention, along each of the two streets, which are delimited by the outside of the edge strips 12 of the street 10, a plurality of electrical light signal devices are arranged in a schematic manner at 13.1, 13.2, which e.g. are designed as conventional lighting lamps with corresponding support brackets and optionally with guide devices for the light rays of the lamps in order to ensure their directional visibility to the drivers.

The aforementioned electrical light signal devices 13.1, 13.2 are arranged at a uniform distance from one another, in a suitable division, in a continuous sequence along each road edge, in one position and with the function of fixed information means delimiting the roadway 11 in order to provide a view that is more difficult due to fog Light signaling to display the course of the road 11.

According to a modified embodiment, the electrical signaling devices are assigned to fixed information means of a conventional type, such as bumpers, crash barriers or other road limitation means.

The electrical light signal devices 13.1, 13.2 are in a known manner via corresponding circular lines 14.1, 14.2, which are dash-dotted in the drawing are indicated, connected to assigned power supply points 15.1, 15.2 and thereby form two fixed groups 1, 2 of light signal devices in the example shown. These groups are electrically independent of one another and their light signal devices follow one another on certain lengths of the roadway 11.

Accordingly, on one side the light signal devices 13.1 of group 1 follow one another on the route of road 10, which comprises section 10a and approximately half of section 10b.

On the other hand, however, the light signal devices 13.2 of group 2 follow one another on the route of road 10, which comprises the other half of section 10b and section 10c.

According to the invention 10 photocell controls 16.1, 16.2 are arranged along the traffic road, which respond to the poor visibility conditions caused by the fog for road traffic and with the power supply points 15.1, 15.2 via the circular lines 14.1, 14.2 of groups 1, 2 of light signal devices 13.1, 13.2 are connected. Accordingly, the photocell controls 16.1, 16.2 serve to detect the changes in visibility that occur along the street 10 as a result of the fog, such as the changes in the intensity of the incident light flux (arrows F1, F2), accordingly the optional switching of the assigned circuit lines 14.1, 14.2 to close or "open" and thus to supply groups 1, 2 of the light signal devices 13.1, 13.2 with current or

This known photocells controllers 16.1, 16.2 of the V are in their sensitivity to a predeterminable value erdunkelungsvermögens set of the mist so that the photocell controls once in their area mist with an equal relative to the set value or is larger Verdiznkelungsvermögen 16.1 , 16.2 establish the electrical connection of the associated circular lines 14.1, 14.2. As a result, groups 1, 2 are supplied with power by light signal devices 13.1, 13.2, light up and indicate the course of the roadway.

This state is maintained by the photocell controls 16.1, 16.2 as long as the view obstructed by the fog persists in its area. As soon as street 10 is back in the relevant area of the photo cell controls, normal visibility, i.e. the fog stops in this area, then the photocell controls 16.1, 16.2 switch the corresponding circuit 14.1, 14.2 of the signal devices 13.1, 13.2 to the open state, as a result of which the power supply from the supply points 15.1, 15.2 supplies the light signal devices 13.1, 13.2 of groups 1 , 2 is interrupted. This state is again maintained as long as there is no fog in the area of the photocells 16.1, 16.2 with the same or greater darkening capacity than the set value, i.e. as long as there is sufficient visibility for the traffic on the relevant road section without the aid of the fixed light warning devices.

As is clear from the foregoing it is the activation of the light signal devices 13.1, 13.2, wel before the solid light Note groups 1, 2 form, all un - depending on operators and is at a fog formation with an approximately equal darkening capacity compared to the set value of the photocells 16.1, 16.2. Likewise, the light signal devices 13.1, 13.2 are automatically de-energized as soon as the fog dissolves.

After the power supply of the individual groups 1, 2 of light signal devices 13.1, 13.2 is controlled independently of one another by the photocells 16.1, 16.2, only those groups of light signal devices that are activated are activated when fog banks or partially or temporarily fog walls are formed are on the relevant foggy stretches of roadway 11. This results in a considerable rationalization of the power consumption on the one hand and a greater uniformity of the viewing conditions with regard to the successive, fixed information means, despite the visibility conditions which can be greatly changed by the fog banks.

Thus, the light signaling system according to the invention continuously shows the course of the road along the roadside along the fog effectively for the vehicles that may be traveling with the lower headlights arranged. The drivers themselves are thereby advantageously facilitated to steer the vehicle in the event of fog, so that the journey can take place at a reduced speed, but with greater safety and less fatigue.

It goes without saying that more power supply points, including their circular lines and groups of light signal devices, can be connected to a common photocell control. Conversely, several circuit lines can branch off from a power supply point for connection to light indication means. In addition, each power supply point can be provided with independent power generators in a manner known per se, or else can be connected to a common main power line, in which case it merely acts as a power distribution point. In addition, each power supply point can be seen in a manner known per se with additional control means for the power supply that are independent of the photocell controls. This makes it possible, on or after separation of the photocell controls of the respective district administration power over these same K tear line by the additional control means off. As a result, the light signal devices can also be operated without fog, for example, to facilitate road traffic at night.
