Bei Freiluftveranstaltungen z.B. "open-air Festivals" oder ähnlichen Großveranstaltungen wurden bisher Bühnenaufbauten verwendet, insbesonders bestehend aus einem Podium und einem in meist provisorischer Bauweise erstellten Dach, um neben dem Ensemble und dessen Instrumentarium elektrische bzw. Beleuchtungs-und/oder akustische Einrichtungen gegen mögliche Witterungseinflüsse zu schützen. Diese Dächer wiesen meist entsprechend leichte Unterkonstruktionen auf, die mit Zeltplanen oder ähnlichem überspannt wurden und wobei diese einfachen Dächer an einem Gestänge oder an Masten befestigt wurden. Bei Abdeckungen dieser Art hat sich insbesondere als nachteilig herausgestellt, daß deren Montage sehr aufwendig, d.h. zumeist nur unter schwierigem Einsatz von Kran- und/oder Hebefahrzeugen, durchgeführt werden konnte. Diese Abdeckungen mußten dadurch außerdem in der vorgesehenen Endhöhe von ca. sechs bis acht Metern fest montiert werden, was den weiteren Nachteil mit sich brachte, daß anschließend von der Bühnenfläche aus ggf. nur unter Verwendung eines Zwischengerüstes, von Hilfskonstruktionen oder Stehleitern eventuell benötigte Scheinwerfer bzw. akustische Geräte oder ganze Einheiten dieser Art an der Unterseite der Abdeckung bzw. des Daches anzubringen waren. Insgesamt gesehen erforderte diese Art der Vorbereitung, abgesehen von der damit verbundenen Gefahrenquelle einen erheblichen Zeit-und Arbeitsaufwand, der sich bei der Demontage der Anlage fast im gleichen Ausmaß wiederholte.
