- the present invention relates to cooling plates for blast furnaces. These cooling plates are elements placed against the internal face of the shielding and fulfill a dual function of cooling the refractory and shielding the passage of the heat flow towards the shielding.
- the cooling plates consist of cast iron elements traversed in their mass by a network of tubes in which circulates a cooling fluid which is generally water. These cooling tubes open on one side of the cooling plates and pass through the shield, outside of which they are connected to cooling tubes of an adjacent upper or lower plate. The tubes thus connected determine the circulation lines of the fluid rising in a substantially vertical plane along the wall of the blast furnace, these lines being connected to an external circuit for circulation and cooling of the fluid.
- patent FR 2 493 871 describes a cooling plate consisting of a cast iron element of substantially parallelepiped shape, in which are embedded longitudinal tubes arranged parallel to each other, these tubes opening onto a same main face, respectively at the upper and lower parts of the cooling plate, in a protective sheath, one of the original characteristics of which resides in the embossed shape of the face opposite to that where the cooling tubes open out.

- the cooling tubes 3 are embedded in the body of the cast iron plate 1 and their axes coincide with the axes of the cylindrical surfaces 9 forming bosses, so that they are placed at the places where the cross-sectional thickness of the plate is maximum.
- the tube 3 is thus surrounded by a constant thickness of cast iron equal to the radius R, in which can be establish a temperature gradient which makes it possible to balance the thermomechanical stresses generated by the heat exchange between the heat flow from the interior of the blast furnace and the cooling tubes embedded in the cooling plate.
- the plate shown 101 has a coping 105 disposed in its central part, in which is disposed a transverse tube 106 disposed horizontally. It has on its face 102a directed towards the inside of the blast furnace, five rows of bosses 108 delimiting, as previously, portions of cylinders 109 and separated by bevelled parts 110. To these five rows of bosses correspond five longitudinal cooling tubes 103 (1), 103 (2), 103 (3), 103 (4) and 103 (5).
- the inlet and outlet of the central tube 103 (3) are arranged in the plane of symmetry of the plate; on the other hand, the inputs and outputs of the other tubes are grouped in the vicinity of the angles and of the longitudinal edges of the plate. This is achieved, for example, by bending the ends of the tubes 103 (2) and 103 (4) to bring them below and above, respectively, the inlets and outlets of the end tubes 103 (1) and 103 ( 5).
- This arrangement is particularly advantageous since it makes it possible to increase the cooling in the zone of the corners of the plates which is usually particularly vulnerable.
