Definitions
- the present invention relates to a radiating coaxial electric cable, comprising a conductive core, a cellular dielectric, an outer conductor provided with windows for passage of electromagnetic radiation, and an outer insulating sheath.
- the radiation passage windows of known cables are formed either by slots, longitudinal or at an angle with the axis of the cable, or by successions of holes aligned on segments parallel to the axis of the cable. Their linear weakening is however disturbed by the value of the coupling factor, so that they are perfectly satisfactory only for determined coupling factors. Their radiation in peak value is also limited.
- Radiant cables having slots at an angle to the axis of the cable are particularly dissipative, since these slots cut the surface currents which flow in the outer conductor of the cable and therefore greatly increase the attenuation.
- Cables with successive holes aligned on segments parallel to the cable axis have a lower reduction, but the arrangement of these segments parallel to the axis creates a non-uniform radiation pattern, which can be annoying. in many applications.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a radiating coaxial electric cable whose linear loss does not depend on the value of the coupling factor, which has better radiation in peak value, with a more uniform distribution, and for amplitudes of less coupling than known cables, and whose measurement of echo voltages (reflectometry) is very good.
- the cable according to the present invention is characterized in that the windows for the passage of radiation from its external conductor consist of successive series of holes aligned along a helix segment.
- the holes forming radiation passage windows are circular.
- the outer conductor is formed by an embossed strip.
- Its sheath is made of a synthetic resin provided with a mineral additive making it non-propagating of a flame.
- the sheath is free of halogenated additives.
- the apparent specific mass of the cell dielectric is between 0.25 and 0.50 g / cm 3 .
- Its outer sheath is connected to a member carrying a parallel axis within.
- H t being the tangential magnetic field at the center of the opening and c the speed of light in a vacuum.
- W the energy conveyed in the cable.
- the radiation of the cable has a circular diagram and is uniform in all directions if one neglects the wall effect due to obstacles located near the cable.
- the distance between the holes must be chosen so that the fields radiated by each add up.
- the radiation of the leaky cable will be effective for the carrier signals whose wavelength in air satisfies the relationships: and p being an integer constant and er, the relative permittivity of the primary insulator of the coaxial cable.
- the radiation may occur in the fundamental mode or in higher order modes.
- This cable comprises a conductive core 1 of copper or aluminum with a helical groove. This is surrounded by a low loss cellular dielectric 2 of polyethylene with a specific mass of between 0.25 and 0.50 g / cm 3 .
- the outer conductor is formed of an embossed copper strip 3, pierced with holes 6 distributed over helix segments, the pitch and the angle relative to the axis of the series of holes being chosen as a function of the frequency d 'use.
- the holes shown are circular, but they could also be rectangular or oval in shape.
- the external conductor is surrounded by a protective sheath 4 made of polyvinyl chloride, added with a mineral filler making it non-propagating of the flame, but without halogenated fire-retardant additive, which would generate a release of halogen in the event of fire.
- the entire cable is supported by a support element 5 with a steel core 7, connected to the cable sheath.
- a cable of this kind with outside diameters 45 mm and inside diameters 18.5 mm, provided with 9 mm diameter holes spaced 15 mm apart, distributed over a 350 mm pitch helix, making an angle of 20 ° with the axis of the cable, has a coupling efficiency of -53 dB at 2 m in free space for a frequency of 450 MHz, with a linear attenuation of 23 dB / km. Its characteristic impedance is close to 50 ohms.
