Description

The present invention relates to an electrical switch which can be for example a simple switch, an inverter or a switch, preferably of reduced dimensions, for example for household appliances.

We already know (FR-A-2,455,788) switches or reversers of the tilting type having, in a housing, a lever pivoting about a central axis and intended to switch a pivoting contact between two extreme positions corresponding to the two positions of the controller.

In order, on the one hand, to switch the movable contact under the effect of the tilting of the pivoting lever, and on the other hand, to keep the assembly stably in each of the two extreme positions, provision has already been made for '' driving the movable contact by means of a helical spring resting on the one hand on the lever and on the other hand on a central arm of the movable contact arranged in such a way that, when the lever is in its position central intermediate between the two extreme positions, the central arm and the spring are substantially aligned in the direction joining the two respective pivot axes of the lever and of the movable contact. When this position is exceeded, the spring, which works in compression, also deforms laterally towards the central arm and pushes the latter into the corresponding extreme tilted position.

Such an arrangement has the disadvantage, by the deformation of the spring, of causing a certain instability of the extreme positions and a possibility of oscillation detrimental to the immediate establishment of a frank contact, with all the consequences of wear and tear that this causes, in particular by the formation of sparks.

We have also already planned (FR-A-2,298,176) to produce a switch in which the spring does not act directly on the movable contact but pushes a plunger guided in the lever and whose emerging end works with inclined surfaces in shape of the mobile contact ramp. In this case, there is no longer any lateral deformation of the spring, but such contact requires the use of a precision intermediate piece, namely the plunger, with also a difficulty in obtaining maximum stability in the two positions. extreme due to the unfavorable angular relationships between the plunger and the corresponding surfaces of the movable contact.

The present invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks and to provide a switch or reverser which is simple and economical to manufacture and assemble and which makes it possible to ensure perfect stability, without rebound, of the extreme positions of the movable contact while having a high durability and high wear resistance.

The subject of the invention is a switch, which can be a simple switch, an inverter or a switch, comprising, in a housing carrying the terminals, a lever pivoting about a central axis between two extreme working positions, a pivoting movable contact. around a second axis located under the first and having a central arm substantially aligned with the direction joining said two axes when the movable contact is in the intermediate position, and a helical spring applying a thrust on the free end of said central arm, said spring being substantially aligned with said central arm in the direction joining said two axes when the movable contact and the lever are in the intermediate position, characterized in that said spring is guided in the lever in a well thereof, with little play allowing only a very limited lateral movement of the spring, and in that the end of the central arm of the movable contact has an extension pe entering the last turn of the spring with sufficient play to allow the central arm to adopt one or other of the extreme positions in which it forms an angle with the longitudinal direction of the spring without causing appreciable deformation of the end spring.

The lateral play between the external turns of the spring and the wall of the well which guides the spring can be extremely reduced. This clearance is advantageously of the order of 3% of the diameter of the spring, this so as to be able to take into account, during industrial assembly, the molding tolerances of the internal well and the manufacturing tolerances of the spring.

The spring preferably has, at the end oriented towards the central arm of the movable contact, several contiguous turns so as to ensure excellent guidance with minimal lateral deformation. In this case, in order to ensure a reversibility of the spring facilitating the assembly, the latter may have contiguous turns at its two ends, the non-contiguous turns which ensure the elasticity of the spring being arranged in the central part thereof. .

Thanks to the invention, a switch is obtained in which the passage of the movable contact from one of the extreme positions to the other is effected with a frank click, the movable contact then being held in its extreme position, by example by being applied against a fixed terminal, in a way that eliminates kickback and ensures perfect stability of this position. The tests carried out have shown that the switches thus formed according to the invention can be subjected to an extremely high number of tilting operations with minimal wear.

In addition, the switch according to the invention lends itself to industrial assembly capable of being fully automated.

Other advantages and characteristics of the invention will appear on reading the following description, given by way of nonlimiting example and referring to the appended drawings in which:
  • Figure 1 shows a sectional view along a plane perpendicular to the plane of the axes of a switch according to the invention.
  • Figure 2 shows a top view of the mobile contact.
  • FIG. 3 represents a sectional view III-III of FIG. 2.
  • Figure 4 shows a side view of a central terminal pivotally receiving the movable contact.

The switch shown in the drawings comprises a switch box 1 having the general shape of a rectangular parallelepiped and provided, in a known manner, with lateral tabs 2. The box 1 thus forms an internal volume of substantially parallelepiped shape, the upper opening is substantially closed by the pivoting lever 3 which has substantially the shape of an inverted bowl whose front and rear walls are pivotally mounted relative to the housing by means of holes and pivots designated by 4. The lower opening of the internal volume of the housing 1 is closed by a base 5 forming a base and carrying a lateral terminal 6 and a central terminal 7, these terminals having shapes in themselves known and being fixedly mounted in the housing by means known. We see at 8 a passage from the bottom 5 which would allow the insertion of a second terminal 6 if necessary. The contact terminal 7 has two front and rear tabs 9 provided with a central notch 10 open upwards and having in its center a boss 11 forming a pivoting surface each time for a tab 13 laterally offset from the movable contact 12. The contact mobile 12 has, for example by stamping, a central arm 14 which rises towards the pivoting lever. The central arm 14 carries at its end a chamfered extension 15 so as to narrow upwards as can be seen in particular in FIG. 3, this extension separating two horizontal spans 16 formed by the end of the arm 14.

In the center of the inverted rectangular bowl formed by the handle 3 stands a cylindrical wall 17 forming a well 18 with, at the bottom of the well, a central boss 19. In this well is housed a helical spring 20 whose upper turns at the level of the boss 19 and the lower turns at the level of the end 15 are contiguous while the intermediate turns are not contiguous and make it possible to ensure the elastic deformation of the spring. This spring is mounted in compression and it is understood that, under these conditions, the last turn 21 is applied elastically against the arm 14 and more precisely against the two bearing surfaces 16 while the extension 15 enters the last turns of the spring.

The diametral clearance between the internal surface of the well 18 and the external surface of the coils of the helical spring, for a spring having a diameter of 3.3 mm with a spring wire of 45 hundredths of a millimeter, is of the order of 0, 1mm. For these same dimensions, the clearance between the extension 15 and the internal diameter of the last turn 21 of the spring is such that, taking into account the thickness of the arm 14, the respective arrangement between turn and extension shown in FIG. 1 can be reached in tilted position. This diametral clearance can for example be of the order of 0.2 mm, or 8% of the diameter of the spring.

In the extreme tilted position shown in FIG. 1, in which the movable contact is in electrical contact with the terminal 6, the last turn 21 of the spring which applies to the bearing surfaces 16 of the arm 14, tends to strongly repel the arm 14 in the direction causing it to tilt further and applying an electrical contact force between the contact 12 and the terminal 6. It can be seen that the spring 20 works essentially in axial thrust under the effect of its compression, without being practically deformed laterally towards the left of the drawing due to the presence of the wall 17 of the well 18 (it should be understood that in reality, in the position shown, the lower end of the spring 20 would have applied against the wall 17, to the left after having canceled the small radial clearance which remains on the drawing).

When pressing the lever 3, it causes the tilting thereof to the other extreme position, the simultaneous tilting of the wall 17 almost immediately causes the spring and, almost instantaneously, the interior of the last turns of the spring comes into contact with the end of the extension 15 to drive this extension with it. The continuation of the simultaneous tilting movement, anti-clockwise, of the lever and, clockwise, of the rocking contact 12, takes place while the spring 20 compresses more, opposing an increased force to the tilting, the spring working always in compression, being prevented from deforming laterally by the presence of the wall 17. When one arrives appreciably in the middle intermediate position, one is in a state of unstable equilibrium and one quickly obtains an escape or click which then brings the movable contact in its second extreme tilted position symmetrical to that shown in the drawing and this frankly and without rebound.

By way of example, for the spring having the aforementioned dimensions, the height of the extension 15 may advantageously be of the order of 0.8 mm, its width at the base of the order of 2.2 mm, its width at the end of the order of 1.9 mm, this for a tab thickness 14 of the order of 0.6 mm.
