A single upper belt is associated with two lower belts for the two units and the upper belt is alternately coupled for movement with one or the other of the two lower belts at the same speed as the lower belt to which it is coupled to effect either the stacking of the sheets or the movement of the stack.

Description

The invention relates to a sheet transport and stacking device with the features of the preamble of claim 1.

Such devices are known and described for example in DE-OS 31 14 414. These known devices are equipped with separate upper belts for the removal of the finished sheet stack, which must be accommodated in the smallest space for reasons of space. As a rule, there is only space for one band per stack that grips the stack on one side. This results in the disadvantage that the sheet stacks can shift or shift during removal. This makes subsequent alignment of the stack necessary, but this is not always possible.

The invention is based on the object of reducing the structural outlay for the upper belts required for the removal of the sheet stack, but at the same time allowing the sheet stack to be removed in an orderly manner.

To achieve this object, the features characterized in claim 1 are proposed according to the invention in a sheet transport and stacking device of the type mentioned at the outset. Advantageous refinements are characterized in the subclaims.

The essence of the invention is the idea of using the upper belt available for the transport of the sheets also when the sheet stack is being removed from the stacking device. This is made possible by the fact that the upper belt is moved alternately by the drive of the lower belt, on which the sheets are transported, at the same speed as this, and then, when the finished stack of sheets is removed, in synchronous synchronism with the drive of the lower belt on which the stack of sheets lies. A constructive additional effort for additional upper belts for the removal of the sheet stack, as was necessary in existing systems, does not apply to the device according to the invention.

In order to bring the stack of sheets into contact with the upper belt for transport, the lower belt is designed to be liftable in conventional systems. According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, however, it is also possible to move the upper band downwards by means of a support plate until it comes into contact with the sheet stack. For this purpose, the support plate can be raised and lowered. Of course, the relative movement of the lower and upper belts used to transport the stack of sheets can also be moved towards one another.

On the basis of the embodiment shown in the drawing, the invention is explained in more detail.

On the lower belt 8 the sheets of paper 9 arrive at the sheet stacking device in an overlapping manner. In order to ensure an orderly transfer of the sheets 9 from the lower belt 8 to the sheet stack 6, the upper belt 1 is arranged, which grips the sheets 9 in the region of the end section of the lower belt 8.

During the stacking operation, the upper belt 1 is coupled to the drive 3 of the lower belt 8 via the clutch 2 and is moved at the same speed as the lower belt 8. This synchronism of the upper belt 1 with the lower belt 8 is important for an orderly further transport of the sheets 9 to the stacking point.

When the intended height of the stack 6 is reached, the upper belt 1 is released from the drive 3 of the lower belt 8 via the coupling 2. The deposit table with the lower (stack transport) belt 7 is raised until the stack 6 is pressed against the upper belt 1. Due to the lowered support plate 5, the upper band 1 cannot escape. The stack 6 is thus clamped between the lower band 7 and the upper band 1.

The drive roller 11 for the upper belt 1 is coupled to the drive 4 for the lower belt 7 via the clutch 10. The stack 6 is conveyed in the direction of the arrow 12 between belts 1 and 7 which are moved in synchronism by the drive.

After the stack 6 has been removed from the stacking device, the drive roller 11 of the upper belt 1 is released from the drive 4 for the lower belt 7 via the coupling 10 and coupled again to the drive 3 for the lower (sheet transport) belt 8 via the coupling 2 . The further feeding of sheets 9 to the stacking point can then begin again after the lower belt 7 has been lowered into the starting position and the support plate 5 has been raised.
