Description

The invention relates to a two-cylinder, four-stroke internal combustion engine of the type according to the preamble of claim 1.

Known internal combustion engines of this type according to Z-DE "Das Motorrad", number 14/1974, page 16 and number 24/1980, pages 28 and 30 and Z-DE "PS", number 2/1981, pages 5 to 8 have a very low longitudinal misalignment of the cylinders in order to keep the resulting mass torques around the vertical axis of the machines low. The crankshaft is designed in one piece either without a central bearing between the two crank pins or in several parts with a central bearing. Because of the masses of the machine rotating largely in one direction of rotation, there is also a considerable reverse torque about the longitudinal axis of the machine when the speed changes.

The object of the invention is to at least largely eliminate the mass torques and reverse torques by means of a compensating device with little additional construction effort and space requirements.

This object is achieved by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1. The counterweights of the intermediate shaft rotating counter to the crankshaft also cause opposite mass torques and back Torques, so that their complete compensation is possible, which has a very low cost, weight and space requirement through the use of the existing intermediate shaft and the interlocking counterweight circular paths.

The features of claims 2 and 3 further develop the compensation of the reverse torques, in which further rotating machine and auxiliary units are used for this without any significant additional expenditure. The use of an additional intermediate shaft results in the advantage of a spatially favorable arrangement of the 1: 1 chain or toothed belt drives for the camshafts with space- and weight-saving control housings and camshaft-side control wheels, which more than compensates for their own effort.

A two-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine for motorcycles has according to FIG. 1 u. 3 a motor housing 1, two mutually opposite cylinders 2 and cylinder heads 3 assigned to them. In the housing 1, a crankshaft 4 is rotatably supported in three bearings 5. The crankshaft 4 has two crank pins 6, which are arranged rotated relative to one another by 180 ° crank angle and are each assigned to a piston 7 guided in the cylinders 2 via connecting rods 8. The crank pin 6 on the opposite side, a pair of crankshaft counterweights 9 is fastened to the crankshaft 4. According to the distance between the crank pins 6 in the longitudinal direction of the crankshaft 4, the two cylinders 2 are also offset from one another in the same direction. The crankshaft 4 carries a flywheel 10 at its output end and a gearwheel 11 for driving an intermediate shaft 12 and other units at the other end. The intermediate shaft 12 is mounted parallel to the crankshaft 4 at a short distance above it in two bearings 13. In addition to a gearwheel 14 for engagement in the crankshaft-side gearwheel 11, a ventilation rotary slide valve 15 for the controlled ventilation of the interior of the engine housing and a belt wheel 16 for a wedge or toothed belt drive 17 to a generator 18 are arranged on one end of the intermediate shaft 12. Between the bearings 13, the intermediate shaft 12 carries a drive gear or screw gear 19 approximately in the middle for a drive shaft of an ignition device, not shown, and possibly an oil pump, also not shown. In the two transverse planes 20 determined by the central axes of the cylinders 2, the intermediate shaft 12 carries a counterbalancing weight 21, which have extreme rotational positions facing and facing away from the crankshaft counterweights 9. In the area of the mutually facing rotational position positions of the counterweights 9 and 21, the two circular paths overlap them, so that a counterweight 21 engages between the assigned pair of crankshaft counterweights 9. The intermediate shaft 12 also carries at one free end a pinion 22 for a chain drive 23 to a further intermediate shaft 24, which has a larger gear ratio 25 for the chain drive 23 and two further gear wheels 26 for a 1: 1 toothed belt drive 27 contributes to the cylinder heads 3. The crankshaft 4 and both intermediate shafts 12 and 24 are mounted in a division plane 1 'of the engine housing 1, which is arranged in the vertical longitudinal center plane of the engine.

On the cylinder heads 3, a further gear wheel 28 for the toothed belt drives 27 is fastened to a camshaft 29, which control the valves 30 in the cylinder heads 3.

Both due to the close association of the crankshaft 4 and the intermediate shaft 12 with one another and also due to the relatively small gear wheels 28 on the camshafts 29 due to the 1: 1 toothed belt drives 27, the overall structure of the engine requires little space. The counterweights on the intermediate shaft 12 equalize the mass torques from the design of the crankshaft 4 and, at the same time, due to the counter-rotation to the crankshaft 4, carry them together with other units driven in the same direction, such as generator 18, further intermediate shaft 24 and camshafts 19 and all of their drive gearwheels 25 , 26 and 28, to compensate for the counter torque occurring when the speed changes.

In the modification according to FIG. 2, an output clutch 110 is arranged on the intermediate shaft 112. As a result, in addition to the embodiment according to FIG. 1, on the one hand the proportion of the rotating masses of the crankshaft 4 is reduced and on the other hand the proportion of the masses rotating in the opposite direction to the crankshaft is increased by the output clutch. The compensation of the counter torques in the event of speed changes is further increased in this way without additional construction work.
