Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a planer for working wood by hand, such as planing boards or wooden surfaces or using smaller planes, removing edges or chamfering wooden parts.
  • the existing planers have a wooden or metal body with a through light.
  • a blade and possibly a counter blade fixed in the working position using a wedge or any other fixing device by wedging the blades against the body.
  • the subject of the present invention is a planer tending to overcome these drawbacks, which is distinguished by the characteristics listed in claim 1.
  • the planer illustrated comprises a body constituted by two side walls 1. 2. cut from a metal sheet between which are housed a front sole 3 and a rear sole 4 both formed by a stack of cut sheets, as well as a front handle 5 and a rear handle 6 made of plastic, both comprising lateral pins 7 cooperating with corresponding openings in the lateral walls.
  • the body formed of these elements is made monolithic by rods 8 tapped at their ends, threaded in holes which have the side walls 1, 2 and the flanges 3, 4 and screws 9, 10 screwed into these rods 8 and taking support on the external face of the side walls 1, 2.
  • a V-shaped light 11 is provided in the middle part of the plane between the front flanges 3 and rear 4, the rear face of this light being constituted by the front face 12 of the rear flange 4 serving as a bearing face for a blade holder as we will see later.
  • the stop consists of a stirrup, the middle part 13 of which has a rounded surface intended to come into contact with the counter blade, as will be seen below, and the branches 13 'of which are pivoted on an axis 15 whose ends of smaller diameter 16 are housed in corresponding holes in the side walls 1, 2.
  • This axis 15 is located perpendicular to the two side walls 1, 2, so that in its angularly oscillating movement the middle part 13 of the stirrup moves parallel to the sole of the plane formed by the lower surfaces 14, 15 of the soles 3, 4.
  • the blade holder is constituted by a lower blade 16 having on its upper face and near its front end two studs 17 cooperating with holes made in a removable and reversible blade 18 comprising two cutting edges. In the service position, the blade 18 protrudes from the lower blade with one of its cutting edges.
  • This lower blade 16 of the blade holder has two tabs 19 journalled on an axis 20 extending between the two side walls 1, 2 and comprising at its ends eccentric pins 21 pivoted in corresponding holes in said side walls 1, 2.
  • L one of the ends of this axis 20 comprises a rectangular formation 22 engaged in a slot 23 of corresponding shape of an operating lever 24.
  • a bush 25 the axial bore of which is eccentric relative to its external cylindrical surface is rotatably mounted on the axis 20 between the two lugs 19.
  • Supports 26 are journalled on the external cylindrical surface of the bush 25 and carry a counter blade 27.
  • the counter blade 27 In the service position ( Figures 2, 5. 6) the counter blade 27 is applied against the lower blade 16 and strongly clamps the blade 18 to hold it in position.
  • the counterblade 27 By turning the bushing on itself around the axis 20, the counterblade 27 is slid relative to the lower blade 16 to modify the free width of the cutting edge of the blade 18, which defines the dimension shavings.
  • the blade holder is tilted against the bearing face 12 (FIG. 2) then the stop 13 is applied against the counter blade. Finally, using the lever 24 acting on the eccentric axis 20, the cutting depth is defined by advancing more or less the cutting blade 17 below the plane of the flanges 14, 15. This lowering of the blade holder causes it to be jammed by the stirrup 13, 13 '.
  • the blade attachment is very rigid and moreover the cutting edge of the blade 18 can only move parallel to the sole 14, 15 of the plane. Finally, the cutting depth adjustment is very fine and precise.
  • the adjustment of the position of the counter blade 27 relative to the blade 16 also includes a stop constituted by a rod 28 trapped in the sleeve 25 and moving in slots 29 thus limiting the amplitude of the angular displacement of the sleeve 25 relative to axis 20.
  • planer described can be envisaged, in particular as to the shape and dimensions of the body thereof, the blade holder and its mechanical adjustments as well as the stop remaining similar.
