Definitions
- the invention relates to an electronic musical instrument with the features mentioned in the preamble of claim 1.
- Such musical instruments are commercially available and are generally referred to as "electronic organs”.
- a simple switch can only indicate whether the key has been hit or not.
- the game can, however, be approached much better than that of traditional musical instruments, such as a piano, even if it is recorded whether the attack is stronger or weaker.
- traditional musical instruments such as a piano
- the time which is required for the key stroke is evaluated; if this time is short, a strong attack is assumed, and if it is long, a weak one.
- the object of the invention is to design the generic musical instrument in such a way that the touch dynamics can be detected with very little effort and above the keyboard also enables the creation of secondary effects.
- a block 22 made of a polymer material is attached to a key 20 of the instrument, which is made electrically conductive by additions of electrically conductive material.
- the block 22 is rounded at its lower end.
- the rounded end of the block meets a conductor track 24 of a printed circuit 26 (FIG. 2) and the stronger the stop 3 (Fig. 3), the more the block 22 is compressed, and accordingly the contact area between it and the conductor track 24 increases. Accordingly, the resistance of this contact area also decreases more and more. Only in Fig.
- a block 22 'made of the same material as block 22 is attached to the button, but is not rounded. When it hits two contact strips 32, 34, it bridges them (FIG. 5), and if the pressure on the key is increased, the height 26 of the block (FIG. 6) decreases, which reduces its resistance.
- the key 20 "carries an elastic block 22" made of an electrically highly conductive material, which is rounded off at its free end.
- an elastic block 22 made of an electrically highly conductive material, which is rounded off at its free end.
- the time-dependent course of the voltage V 30 on line 30 is shown in FIG. 10 as an example, namely for a strong stop in curve A and for a softer stop in curve B. Further processing
- the voltage V 30 sets in as soon as the threshold voltage V th is undershot.
- the information regarding the touch dynamics is obtained from the steepness of the curve, either by determining the time interval within which a predetermined differential voltage is run through, or by determining the differential voltage dV which is run through within a given time interval dt after the threshold voltage V th has been undershot. The latter method is used in the present exemplary embodiment.
- FIG. 11 A circuit arrangement that fulfills these functions is shown in FIG. 11.
- the voltages V 30 a, b, ... i..z coming from the individual keys are converted in a multiplex circuit 40 into serial information which is present on the output line 42.
- the time control of the multiplex circuit 40 takes place via line 44 from the output of a note counter 46, which in turn is controlled by a clock generator 48.
- the latter also clocks a logic circuit 50, the function of which will be explained later.
- V i on line 42 is fed to an analog-to-digital converter 52, on the output line 54 of which the digital equivalent of the voltage V i appears, which will be referred to as V k below.
- V k is at one input of a comparator 56, at the other input of which the threshold voltage V th is also present in digital form.
- the logic level L k present at the output of the comparator 56 indicates whether the threshold voltage has fallen below or not.
- Three random memories 60, 62 and 64 are provided which have (at least) as many memory locations as the multiplex circuit 40 has inputs, that is to say an addressable memory location is provided in each random memory for each key contact.
- the random memories hold the data associated with the respective key, namely in memory 60 with regard to the touch state of the keys - therefore this memory will be referred to below as “touch memory” - and in memory 62 the current values of the voltages V k - therefore should this memory referred to as “Spannun g PEICHER e" are referred to, - and finally, in the memory 64 the current value of time, and therefore this memory is hereinafter referred to as "time memory”.
- the memories are addressed by the note counter 46, synchronously with the activation of the multiplex circuit 40.
- L k can mean that a key has just been struck or that the key was struck during the previous multiplex cycle. The occupancy of the corresponding memory location in the stop memory is therefore read out and also supplied to the logic circuit as logic level L A.
- V k-1 the current value of V k from the voltage memory is also compared with V th in a second comparator 66; since this current value was of course stored in the previous multiplex cycle, it should be referred to as "V k-1 ".
- the output of the comparator 66 accordingly supplies a logic signal L H to the logic circuit 50, whereupon the latter sends the write command wANS to the stop memory 60, into which the data corresponding to L A are then written.
- the corresponding memory location in the time memory 64 is set to zero (command S tc from the logic circuit), and by reading out the respective memory value, incrementing by one unit in the adder circuit 70 and rewriting it multiplexing 72 is used to count until the current time value t is equal to the predetermined interval t.
- the comparator 74 carries out this comparison, the output logic level of which is fed back again as a control signal to the logic circuit, because from this point in time the voltage data V k are to be evaluated in a different way than before. For this reason, the logic circuit generates a corresponding command ST which shows that the time measurement process for the relevant key has ended.
- the voltage value V k V k-1 is present subtracted by means of subtraction circuit 76 at whose output 78 the differential voltage dV.
- the size dV can either continue to be used as information for the secondary effect that is possible thereafter, or the size V k itself a selection command SEL of the logic circuit transmits one or the other variable in the interface. This is done using Status signal ST from the logic circuit signals whether it is a matter of measuring the dynamics (t o has not yet expired) or the secondary effect.
- the interface is designed as a shift register from which the input data can be read out asynchronously with the clock of the clock generator 48 and the sound generating circuits 90 of the instrument can be fed; so that the key in question is identified, the output of the note counter 46 is also given to the register, and also the respective status of the stroke counter. Writing to the register is done by the wFIFO command from the logic circuit.
- the shift register is one in which the data entered first (first in) is also output first (first out), that is to say a so-called "FIFO register".
- the logic circuit can be designed as a read-only memory or as a gate system.

Abstract
The output signals from key contacts, the height of which depends on the pressure at which the key is pressed, provide information both with regard to the dynamics of the key and with regard to secondary effects when the key is held. The signals are processed in succession in different ways.
Description
The invention relates to an electronic musical instrument with the features mentioned in the preamble of
A simple switch can only indicate whether the key has been hit or not. The game can, however, be approached much better than that of traditional musical instruments, such as a piano, even if it is recorded whether the attack is stronger or weaker. For this there are embodiments in which the time which is required for the key stroke is evaluated; if this time is short, a strong attack is assumed, and if it is long, a weak one.
Schließlich gibt es andere Arten von Musikinstrumenten (traditionelle wie auch elektronische), bei denen der Spieler durch Bewegungen seiner Spielfinger hier als "Sekundäreffekte" bezeichnete Klangwirkungen hervorbringt, etwa ein Vibrato .Finally, there are other types of musical instruments (traditional as well as electronic) in which the player produces sound effects called "secondary effects", such as vibrato, by movements of his fingers.
The object of the invention is to design the generic musical instrument in such a way that the touch dynamics can be detected with very little effort and above the keyboard also enables the creation of secondary effects.

In Fig. 4-6, a
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 7-9, the
It is understood that e.g. by variable width of the
Im vorliegenden Ausführungsbeispiel wird die letztgenannte Methode verwendet.the voltage V 30 sets in as soon as the threshold voltage V th is undershot. The information regarding the touch dynamics is obtained from the steepness of the curve, either by determining the time interval within which a predetermined differential voltage is run through, or by determining the differential voltage dV which is run through within a given time interval dt after the threshold voltage V th has been undershot. The latter method is used in the present exemplary embodiment.
After a predetermined period of time t of, for example, 50 ms, it can be assumed that a very gentle keystroke has ended. The player can now trigger secondary effects, such as vibrato, by varying the key press. The corresponding changes in voltage V 30 after expiration of t 0 will of course then have to be processed by the downstream circuits in a different way than the dynamic information, depending on which secondary effects are to be made possible. If the voltage V 30 exceeds V th again, it is assumed that the player has released the key again.
- - Determine whether V th falls below
- - determining dV / dt,
- Determining the passage of time from t,
- - Determining the subsequent changes in voltage V 30 '
- - Determine when V th is exceeded again.
A circuit arrangement that fulfills these functions is shown in FIG. 11.
The voltages V 30 a, b, ... i..z coming from the individual keys are converted in a multiplex circuit 40 into serial information which is present on the
The voltage V i on
Three
The logic level L k from the output of the
In order to determine whether the relevant key was already struck or not, the current value of V k from the voltage memory is also compared with V th in a
However, when the output of the
For the first process, the corresponding memory location in the
Starting with the next command from the logic circuit wspa, the voltage value V k V k-1, is present subtracted by means of
As soon as the touch dynamics have been determined from the size dV, the size dV can either continue to be used as information for the secondary effect that is possible thereafter, or the size V k itself a selection command SEL of the logic circuit transmits one or the other variable in the interface. This is done using Status signal ST from the logic circuit signals whether it is a matter of measuring the dynamics (t o has not yet expired) or the secondary effect.
The interface is designed as a shift register from which the input data can be read out asynchronously with the clock of the
Bei dem Schieberegister handelt es sich um ein solches, bei dem die zuerst eingegebenen Daten (First In) auch zuerst ausgegeben werden (First Out), also ein sogenanntes "FIFO-Register".The shift register is one in which the data entered first (first in) is also output first (first out), that is to say a so-called "FIFO register".
The logic circuit can be designed as a read-only memory or as a gate system.
The entire circuit according to Fig. 11, with the exception of the analog multiplexer, can be used as a single microprocessor chip e.g. of the type INTEL 8020.
The sequence when a key is released and the output is correspondingly tilted first by
