Abstract

An apparatus for storing sheets in which the sheets are inserted between the various layers of a storage band wound onto a storage roller. The storage band, which is wound off a supply roller, is directed between the two rollers in such a way that it forms a horizontal deposit table which is freely accessible on several sides, on which the sheets may be deposited before being drawn onto the storage roller by a corresponding forward run of the band.

Description

The invention relates to a device for storing sheet material with supply roll, storage roll and storage tape, in which the storage tape is wound up together with the sheet material on the storage roll, the sheet material being enclosed between the individual layers of the winding that is formed.

Such a device is known from US Pat. No. 1,838,065, in which checks and, if appropriate, recording media associated therewith are stored. The storage tape is wound from a supply roll onto a storage roll, whereby it is guided, among other things, via a deflection roll which lies directly against the storage roll. The objects to be stored are fed between the deflection roller and the storage roller and from there are enclosed by a corresponding rotation of the storage roller between the individual layers of the unwound storage belt. The checks are entered sequentially. If two objects - check and record carrier - are entered at the same time, a correspondingly wider storage tape is used, which makes it possible to record the objects in a parallel arrangement.

From another document (DE-AS 2 446 280) it is known to store the banderoles of packets of banknotes in a device of the type mentioned above. In this arrangement, two storage tapes are used, which are unwound from separate supply rolls and brought to cover via adjacent deflecting rolls. The banderoles, which are delivered by a separate transport system, are threaded between these deflection rollers and thus get between the two belts. The tapes and the objects enclosed therein are then wound up on a common storage roll.

In both devices, the objects have to be threaded between two rolls lying close together. It is therefore almost impossible to enter a large number of objects at the same time. At the same time, care must be taken to ensure exact feeding, since sheet material can only be picked up when the storage tape is running. If the objects are e.g. If the rollers are not evenly gripped along the entire width, shear forces occur which can cause the objects to become wrinkled and even damaged.

Since the time determines the detection and the position of the objects on the storage tape and the input is only possible while the storage tape is running, it is essential to synchronize the tape advance with the feeding transport system so that the objects are placed on the storage tape in a targeted manner.

In the known devices, the sheet material can only be fed to the storage tape from one direction. The feeding of sheet material via further transport systems is therefore only possible from one predetermined direction. In this context, it is known to arrange two transport systems next to one another and to feed sheet material in a parallel arrangement to a storage belt of double width. Apart from the large-volume structure that this entails, it is particularly disadvantageous that in this case the movement of three different systems - storage device and two transport systems - must be synchronized.

The object of the invention is to provide a device for storing different sheet material, the storage regardless of the number and quality of the sheet material can be carried out safely and without problems and the sheet material can also be transported from several transport systems.

The object is achieved by the features specified in the characterizing part of the main claim.

The basic principle of the invention is to lay the guide of the storage tape in such a way that a table-like surface is formed over a longer section of the route, which is freely accessible from several sides and allows sheet material to be picked up from different directions directly onto the storage tape. This enables objects to be fed into different transport systems and placed in the same storage tape area. The diverse supply option of the device according to the invention has the advantage that the objects to be stored which are associated with one another can be stored at one and the same location. Due to the common storage in direct contact, there is always a safe assignment of the individual objects, which can be important when the objects are removed from the memory. Due to the possible multiple storage of sheet material at the same location, the available storage space is also used optimally.

Since the device according to the invention, in contrast to known devices, offers the possibility of depositing the objects on the stationary belt, problem-free and accurate storage of sheet material in a predetermined belt area is possible.

The predetermined tape areas can be delimited by markings that are also used for tape feed control. Due to the possibility of targeted placement in the marked pick-up areas and the precisely controlled tape feed, the pick-up areas can be designed accordingly narrow. As a result, the space available on the tape can be fully used.

Another advantage of the device according to the invention is that the sheet material is already on the belt when it is later fed into the storage roll, and thus complicated threading processes, as are known from the prior art, are eliminated.

The new device can advantageously be used in so-called banknote sorting machines that process banded banknote packets. In these devices, the banderole, which carries data about the origin of the banknotes, among other things, is automatically removed from the banknote bundle del deducted and fed to a separate transport system. The banknotes are then separated, checked and, depending on the result of the check, sent to different deposit points. When sorting, for example, counterfeit banknotes or banknotes of other denominations or banknotes that cannot be checked automatically are discarded. It is important for banknotes of the above-mentioned category that their origin can be determined without any doubt in a later manual check. The information required for this is recorded on the banderole of the parcel to which the relevant banknote belongs, so it is a great advantage if the banknotes can be temporarily stored together with the banderole in a simple manner until later manual rework.

The device according to the invention offers the possibility of storing banknotes and banderoles in the desired form in a safe and technically flawless manner. It essentially consists of a supply roll 2, a storage roll 6, a storage tape 1 and a few deflection rolls. The storage tape 1, coming from the supply roll 2, runs over several deflection rolls 3, 4, 5 onto the storage roll 6, on which it is wound up again. The supply, storage roll and the guide rolls for the storage tape are mounted on a common mounting plate 7 in addition to further device elements, which is attached via spacer pins 9 to a mounting plate 8 belonging to the overall system of a banknote sorting device. To wind up the storage tape, the storage roll 6 is rotated counterclockwise by a motor 10. A braking device 11 on the supply roll 2, e.g. a loop belt or disc brake keeps the storage belt under a constant tensile load. The guidance of the storage tape is achieved with a guide plate 12 attached between the rollers 3 and 4. Between the rollers 3 and 4, the storage tape always has the same angle of inclination so that it is always in engagement with the guide plate 12. The plate keeps the storage tape in a predetermined track and thus guarantees a precisely fitting winding of the tape. Due to the constant tensile load over the entire range and the directional stability of the tape, objects are securely and firmly enclosed between the individual layers of the tape winding.

In the area between the rollers 4 and 5, the belt runs horizontally and thus forms a storage table for the objects to be stored. An essential feature of the device is that, due to the free access to the belt between the rollers 4 and 5, objects of different types and coming from different directions can also be deposited on a predetermined belt section. As will be explained in more detail later with reference to FIG. 5, the individual band sections are identified by markings on the band and can be detected by means of a photocell 29. The tape feed is thus controlled so that there is an exact alignment of the individual tape sections between the rollers 4 and 5 to form the depositing table.

In the embodiment described here, the storage tape for storing the sheet material is stopped. As a result, the objects are deposited precisely in the intended belt section. Several objects can also be deposited at the same location, regardless of whether they come from one transport system or from several. In the application of the storage device in a banknote sorting machine shown in the figures, as mentioned, those banknotes of a packet which have discrepancies are to be physically combined with the band originally belonging to the packet. The corresponding banknotes, coming from a belt transport system 14, are first collected on a stacker table 16 by means of a spiral stacker 15 and from there are pushed, for example with a pneumatically driven slide 17 (FIG. 3), away from the stacker table 16 onto the predetermined storage area of the storage belt 1. After the banknotes have been deposited, the banderole belonging to them is transported to a flat belt transport system 20 in which it is temporarily stored and is placed on the banknotes. The feeding of objects is in no way limited to the possibilities mentioned in this example. Other or additional transport systems can open into the storage area of the storage tape. In one variant, e.g. storage from the spiral stacking stacker 14 directly onto the storage tape. After a corresponding tape feed, the banknotes are drawn into the storage roll together with the banderole and come to lie between the individual layers of the wound storage tape. At the same time, the storage table is free again for the next sheet material to be deposited.

The axis diameter of the storage roller 6 and the bandwidth are dimensioned in such a way that even several objects are reliably drawn into the storage roller at the same time.

The placement of the sheet material on the stationary belt has the advantage that the storage space available on a belt can be used optimally. Due to the precisely controllable intermittent feed of the storage tape, the distances between the individual object groups on the storage tape can be adjusted accordingly be tight and avoid unnecessary «idling». This means that a tape feed will only take place if objects have been deposited. This point is of particular importance for banknote sorting devices, since the banknotes which have irregularities are usually obtained in an irregular sequence. In the case of a continuous tape feed, the tape is drawn in empty at times when no banknotes are being transported and thus unnecessary memory space is consumed. In addition, in this example of the device according to the invention, it is not necessary to provide coordination of a plurality of simultaneously moving transport systems, which can be technically very complex under certain circumstances.

With increasing winding of the storage tape onto the storage roll, the diameter increases, which leads to a corresponding gradient of the storage tape between the roll 5 and the storage roll. The distance between the roller 5 and the storage roller and the circumference of the full storage roller are chosen such that the belt does not interfere with the transport of the sheet material on the belt even when the maximum gradient occurs. If the space between the storage roller 6 and the deflection roller 5 can only be kept very short for reasons of space, height compensation must be provided for the storage roller. The axis of the storage roller is, for example, adjustably supported in a vertical direction depending on the circumference of the storage roller.

Geeignete Mitnehmerstifte 23 dienen zur Übertragung der Drehbewegung der Speicherrolle.FIG. 4 shows an exemplary embodiment of a storage roll, which is identical in structure to the storage roll, and the associated holding device 19. The storage roller essentially consists of a roller 24 enclosed between two side walls 25, which is inserted into the axis 29 of the holding device. To lock the storage roller equipped with a handle 34, a spring-mounted ball is provided in the roller, which engages in a correspondingly formed groove in the axis 29. Suitable driver pins 23 are used to transmit the rotational movement of the storage roller.

A mechanical clamping device has been provided within the roller 24, with which the beginning of the storage tape can be fixed. A filled storage roll can be fixed, for example, by springs mounted in the side wall of the storage roll. Another way to avoid the tape rolling up automatically during subsequent transport is to provide the end of the storage tape with Velcro material, self-adhesive or magnetically adhesive surfaces.

Fig. 5 shows a section of the storage tape with the superimposed sheet material such as banknote 26 and banderole 27. The tape material is preferably polyethylene, since it is extremely tear-resistant, but can be stretched to a certain extent elastically. These properties enable the sheet material to be wound up easily between the layers of the belt. The deposit takes place in an area which is characterized by the transverse strips 28. These horizontal stripes are repeated at regular intervals over the entire length of the storage tape. They limit the individual storage compartments. In order to guarantee an exact storage within the compartments, the belt feed is controlled via these horizontal strips. If the tape is made of translucent material, the horizontal stripes can e.g. be printed black markings which are detected by means of a photodetector 29 or light barriers which can work in incident light or transmitted light. The corresponding signals are forwarded from this photodetector to the drive motor of the storage roll.

The tape feed could also be controlled by mechanical scanning, for example by providing the tape with perforation holes that are mechanically tapped.

A marking 30 is provided within a compartment section on the storage tape and indicates the respective tape number and the compartment number along with further data. In the exemplary embodiment shown here, the marking is a self-clocking digital code that can be read optically. Track 31 is the clock track and consists of black bars that have been printed on the tape at regular intervals, while track 32 represents the code. The code, which is printed directly on the tape in this exemplary embodiment, is read during the tape feed with suitable detectors. If banknotes and the associated banderole are stored in a band section, the compartment number and the band number are recorded and, together with other data from the sorting process, i.a. also for later post-processing, registered.

In one variant, the clock track and the information track are all provided with black bars, and the code is introduced later by punching out the information track. The latter option has the advantage that the initially neutral tapes are only encoded when they are used and can therefore be provided with special encodings which relate to the application. The coding can e.g. are carried out via a punching device incorporated in the belt transport, not shown in the figures, and contain current information, e.g. relate to the current sorting process, the working time, the operating personnel or the number and the reason for the sorting out of the banknotes deposited in the respective band section.

The current coding takes place during the tape feed and can also be applied to the tape in a different way than the one explained in more detail here. For example, printing or stamping processes are also used.

In an advantageous development, devices are provided on the storage tape, so that the end of a storage tape can be connected to the start of another storage tape. This connection can also be realized with Velcro fasteners, for example. This makes it much easier to thread a new storage tape:
  • Is the storage volume of a storage tape scoops, the tape feed is stopped before the entire storage tape is wound up in the storage roll and the tape end is still in the area of the supply roll. The empty supply roll is then removed and replaced with a new one. The beginning of the tape of the new storage tape is then attached to the tape end of the storage tape still in the device. With the final retraction of the old storage tape on the storage roll, the new storage tape is thus automatically wound into the device.

A special work table is provided for later manual reworking of the objects stored in this way. The guidance of the storage tape and the arrangement of the rolls - storage roll and empty roll onto which the storage tape is rewound - have roughly the same basic features as shown in FIGS. 1-3. When the storage tape is processed, the objects enclosed there are released again. As already mentioned, the tape feed is controlled via the markings which characterize the individual tape compartments. A photo detector is also provided, which reads the coding on the tape and shows the processor the current subject number in plain text. The belt feed is controlled so that both forward and reverse are possible under the necessary tensile load. This cancels the machining process and the tape can be rewound onto the storage roll. In order to accelerate the winding of the tape in the event of an interruption in work, several speeds are available for the forward and reverse.

If the coding of the tape contains only neutral tape-specific data, the individual storage tapes can be used again at any time. If current data has been recorded on the storage tape, it is generally not reusable if the coding cannot be removed. In this case, inexpensive materials are used to keep the resulting material costs low. Here, e.g. the possibility of using tear-resistant paper.
