Description

The invention relates to a stepladder with at least one riser, consisting of two risers with steps arranged between them, on which a support leg having two support legs is hinged by means of a pair of scissors connecting a stand with the associated support leg, which consists of two scissor members connected in a scissor joint , and with at least one laterally fold-out side support, which is connected to the scissors via at least one link.

To increase the stability of step ladders in the lateral direction, it is known to provide laterally fold-out side supports (DE-U-74 03 907), the side supports being freely pivotable and foldable. Compared to this construction, a significant improvement in stability was sought in that the side supports are automatically and inevitably unfolded when the stepladder is opened. For this purpose, it was proposed in a step ladder of the type mentioned at the outset (EP-A-039078) to connect the side support via a link member to a pair of scissors known per se, which connects the one climbing leg of the ladder to the supporting leg of the ladder, which is designed as a second climbing leg .

In the stepladder according to this prior art, the articulated axes of the scissors run horizontally in a known manner, i. H. the scissor links move in the vertical plane in which the folding of the ladder parts takes place. The link attached to the side support is articulated on the side of the scissor joint. Therefore, this link member of the side support can give little stability transversely to the folding movement of the side support, i. H. the side support is relatively unstable to the front and back; Forces exerted in this direction, for example when moving the conductors, act as bending forces at the articulation points, which can lead to increased wear or damage.

The forces transmitted from the side support via the link member act transversely to the level of the scissors and therefore act as bending forces in the scissor joint and at the articulation points of the scissors, i. H. if a lateral force is exerted on the side support, the scissor links are pressed inwards or outwards from their plane and possibly even deformed.

Experiments have shown that greater stability of the side support can only be achieved if the side support is supported not only by a single link, but by two links, the articulation points of which must be spaced apart on the scissor joint. For this purpose, it would be necessary to attach a cross member to the scissor joint, which is connected at its ends to one of the two link members. But this would result in a relatively complex construction, which would be relatively heavy and bulky if the design was sufficiently stable.

Therefore, this proposal is hardly suitable, in particular, for stepladders that need to be built easily and in a space-saving manner, namely household ladders.

Taking particular account of the requirements given in such household stepladders, the invention is therefore based on the object of designing a stepladder of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that very stable guidance and securing of the side support or supports is achieved by relatively light and space-saving components.

This object is achieved in that the scissors articulated with vertical joint axes on the riser, on the support spar and in the scissor joint and horizontally movable, and that two horizontal link members articulated with a common vertical joint axis on the side support diverging into one each between the articulation points of each scissor member lying articulation point with perpendicular joint axis.

The scissors designed in this way move in the horizontal direction, as do the two links that lead to the side support. In the usual design of the scissor members and the link members made of relatively thin flat material, none of these components is stressed transversely to its surface plane; this avoids bending stresses on the joints. The diverging link members form a stable support for the side support, so that the side support that is automatically expanded when the stepladder is opened remains stable in its specified position when subjected to loads from any direction.

The scissor links and the link links linked to them are moved inwards when the stepladder is closed and therefore do not interfere.

In an advantageous embodiment of the concept of the invention, in the case of a stepladder provided with a safety bridge connecting the riser to the support leg in the unfolded state, it is provided that the scissors or the scissors are or are arranged just below the safety bridge. In this area, the scissors and the handlebar links do not interfere even when opened. In addition, with household managers who do not go beyond a certain size, there is no need for separate spreading devices, so that the bridge lifter for the safety bridge also takes on the function of the spreading device. Since the scissors in this embodiment are in the immediate vicinity of the spreading protection thus formed, the scissors are held in a particularly secure manner in the opened state; also strong lateral forces exerted on the side support could not change the spreading angle of the stepladder.

In a because of their particular simplicity especially suitable for light household ladders version according to the invention it is provided that the scissor members are articulated in the vertical direction on the riser and on the support spar with at least half the spreading angle of the standing ladder. This takes into account the fact that when the step ladder is opened, the angle between the support bar or the step bar and the horizontal plane receiving the scissors changes, in each case by a maximum of half the spreading angle of the step ladder. The invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment which is illustrated in the drawing. It shows :
  • 1 shows a step ladder with safety bridge and side supports in a perspective representation,
  • FIG. 2 shows an enlarged view in the direction of arrow II in FIG. 1, partly in section,
  • 3 shows a section along the line 111-111 in Fig. 1 in the opened state and
  • 4 shows a section corresponding to FIG. 3, but in the folded state of the stepladder.

The step ladder shown in FIG. 1, which can be climbed on one side, has a climbing leg 1 and a supporting leg 2, which are hingedly connected to one another at articulation points 3. The riser 1 consists of two risers 4 with steps 5 arranged therebetween; the risers 4 are connected at their upper end by a bracket 6.

The support leg 2 consists of two support bars 7 which are connected to one another by an upper and a lower cross strut 8. In the unfolded state, a safety bridge 9 is located between the riser leg 1 and the support leg 2 in the upper region of the ladder, which is actuated by a bridge lifter (not shown) arranged underneath, which at the same time forms the spreading protection.

At the hinge points 3, two lateral, disk-shaped cheeks 10 are arranged on the risers 4, between which the upper ends of the support bars 7 are pivotably mounted. As can be seen from FIG. 2, a hinge pin 11 is inserted through the outer cheek 10 and fastened on the inside with a split pin 12, which has a horizontal hinge axis 13 for a side support 14, which is folded out laterally when the stepladder is opened.

For this purpose, the uprights 4 are each connected to the support spars 7 (FIGS. 3 and 4) by means of a pair of scissors 15 which consist of two scissor members 17 made of flat material which are connected to one another in a scissor joint 16. The scissor members 17 are articulated on articulation points 18 with a substantially vertical articulation axis, but with a certain angular play in the vertical direction, on the climbing beam 4 and on the support beam 7. In the opened state (Fig. 3), the scissor links 17 assume an almost extended position. A link member 20 is articulated in each case on a hinge point 19 with a vertical hinge axis, which lies between the scissor hinge and the hinge point 18. Both link members 20 are jointly articulated at a hinge point 21 with a vertical hinge axis on the side support 14.

As can be seen in Fig. 1, the scissors 15 are located just below the safety bridge 9. When folded, the two scissors 15 move in a horizontal plane against each other inwards up to the position shown in Fig.4, the side supports 14 by the Handlebar members 20 are pulled inwards until they are practically in contact with the folded uprights 4 and support bars 7. Depending on whether the hinge points 19 are more or less close to the scissors hinge 16, the fold-out angle of the side support 14 can be chosen to be larger or smaller.

As indicated in FIG. 2 with the cotter pin 12, the side supports 14 can be designed to be removable, with easily detachable connections also being provided in the articulation points 19, for example.

Anstelle der beim dargestellten Ausführungsbeispiel gezeigten Anlenkung der Seitenstützen 14 im Bereich der Gelenkpunkte 3 zwischen dem Steigschenkel 1 und dem Stützschenkel 2 kann die Anlenkung der Seitenstützen 14 auch an einer anderen Stelle erfolgen, beispielsweise am Steigholm 4 oberhalb oder unterhalb des Gelenkpunkts 3.Instead of the articulation of the side supports 14 shown in the illustrated embodiment in the region of the articulation points 3 between the riser 1 and the support leg 2, the articulation of the side supports 14 can also take place at another location, for example on the riser 4 above or below the articulation point 3.

In Fig. 4 is indicated at "S with dash-dotted lines only on a part of the scheron 15 that the scissor members 17 and the link members 20 can also be curved so that in the collapsed state of the scissors there are still enough wide spaces between the scissor members, to avoid the risk of fingers getting caught.
