Abstract

In a dot matrix printer the dot density printed is controlled by adjustably setting the printing angle of the print head at ver­ tical or at some predetermined angle from the vertical. Setting it at an angle increases the number of passes required to com­ plete a line of print but allows the portion of the line of print in the path of head travel to be completed in one pass at the de­ sired dot density or with the desired degree of dot overlap. A principal advantage of this printer is a cost reduction in the elec­ tronic circuitry since all vertically adjacent dots of characters or graphics are printed at one time.
