  • peripheral take-up reel drives may be utilized to optimize ribbon utilization since such peripheral drives maintain a constant take-up velocity irrespective of the constantly increasing diameter of the take-up reel.

  • the ribbon cartridge structure of the present invention provides an apparatus having a combination of all of the above advantageous characteristics.

  • Printhead 25 may be any conventional printer head such as a wire matrix printhead or it may be an impact printer printhead such as a missile or hammer in which case the missile or hammer would have to be used in combination with a conventional daisy wheel type of printwheel containing the characters to be printed.
  • Ribbon supply is metered off supply reel 19 by mating capstan roller 27 and idler roller 28.
  • Capstan roller 27 is affixed to shaft 18 which is driven by stepper motor 13 via pulleys 14 and 15, belt 16 and shaft 12.
  • Gear paths 29 and 30 act to rotate idler 28 together with capstan 27.
  • the combination of capstan 27 and idler 28 act to draw ribbon 24 from supply portion 20 on reel 19. As the ribbon is taken off supply portion 20, it passes over pawl 31 which is spring loaded by means not shown so as to be biased in a counterclockwise direction about pivot 32.
  • shaft 17 is rotated as described. This in turn rotates the take-up ribbon portion 22 which in turn draws the ribbon from reservoir 36 over ridge 40.
  • the separation fingers 41, 42 and 43 around which the ribbon passes form expansion cavities each having a narrow space with the rear wall 44 of cartridge housing 10 thus causing singular webs of ribbon 24 to pass through this narrow space and ensure that the ribbon drawn from stuffer box 36 is free of fold.
  • shaft 17 to which take-up reel 21 is affixed is rotated at a constant speed.
  • the speed at which ribbon is taken-up on take-up portion 22 of take-up reel 21 will vary with the diameter of the take-up ribbon portion 22.
  • the speed of the ribbon being taken-up will be relatively low.
  • the peripheral speed of ribbon portion 22 and consequently the take-up speed of the ribbon will increase.

Claims (9)

1. Une cartouche de ruban comprenant un boîtier (10) et des première et seconde bobines (19, 21) montées à rotation dans ledit boîtier, chaque bobine portant une partie d'une bande de ruban (24) entraîné sur un chemin d'une bobine à l'autre, caractérisée en ce qu'elle comprend une boite de bourrage de ruban (36) disposée sur le chemin dudit ruban entre lesdites première et seconde bobines, suivi par ladite bande de ruban entre lesdites bobines au travers de ladite boite de bourrage.
2. La cartouche de ruban de la revendication 1 dans laquelle lesdites première et seconde bobines (19, 21) sont montées sur le même moyeu (17).
3. La cartouche de ruban de la revendication 2 dans laquelle ladite première bobine (19) est la bobine d'alimentation de ruban et est montée à rotation sur ledit moyeu (17).
4. La cartouche de ruben de la revendication 3 dans laquelle ladite seconde bobine (21) est la bobine de réception de ruban et est fixée audit moyeu (17) et ledit moyeu est rotatif.
5. La cartouche de ruban de la revendication 4 comprenant en outre des moyens de mesure de ruban (27, 28, 31) pour tirer le ruban de ladite bobine d'alimentation de ruban (19) et maintenir une tension constante de la partie du ruban déroulé entre la bobine d'alimentation (19) et ladite boite de bourrage (36).
6. La cartouche de ruban de la revendication 5 dans laquelle lesdits moyens de mesure de ruban comprennent des cabestans (27, 28) pour entraîner le ruban dans ladite boite de bourrage (36).
7. La cartouche de ruban de l'une quelconque des revendications 3 à 6 dans laquelle ladite boite de bourrage (36) s'étend du niveau de ladite bobine d'alimentation (19) au niveau de ladite bobine de réception (21).
8. Dispositif d'impression à utiliser avec une cartouche du type défini par la revendication 6 ou 7, caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend des moyens (12, 13, 14, 15, 16) pour entraîner lesdits moyens de mesure de ruban, et des moyens (11, 13) pour entraîner ledit moyeu (7) en rotation, ce qui permet à ladite bobine de réception (21) de tirer ledit ruban (24) de ladite boite de bourrage (36).
9. Le dispositif de la revendication 8 comprenant en outre un galet rotatif (45) en contact avec la périphérie du ruban enroulé sur ladite bobine de réception (21) et des moyens (46) pour rappeler souplement ledit galet contre ladite périphérie, ce qui permet au ruban de s'enrouler sur ladite bobine de réception avec la tension minimale.
