Description

The invention relates to jacks intended to lift a motor vehicle body, of the so-called Y-shaped type, that is to say comprising an upright on which an arm is articulated whose angular position relative to the upright is adjustable, in particular by means of an operating screw carried by two parts articulated respectively on the arm and at the upper part of the upright. Jacks of this type rest on the ground by a foot formed at the base of the upright, and generally receive a lower prominence of the vehicle body in a housing, called jack head, formed at the free end of the arm.

The jacks of this type are simple and low cost, but, as their amount is more inclined relative to the vertical as the box they support is lower, their installation implies precautions for s '' ensure that the head and foot of the jack are in the vicinity of the same vertical in order to provide suitable stability to the vehicle lifted by the jack.

To facilitate obtaining the correct jack position, it has been proposed to equip the jack foot with a wide sole inclined with respect to the upright so that when the jack is put in place, by placing the sole at flat on the ground, the jack head is on a vertical passing through the sole when the jack is partially deployed. However, this correct position of the head cannot be satisfied in all cases since, the ground clearance of the vehicle in front of the jack can vary to a large extent depending in particular on the vehicle load, the condition swelling of its tires and the conformation of the ground, the deployment of the jack during its installation is very variable.

It is also known (see FR-A-2353480) to provide a sliding rod in the upright, the upper end of which cooperates with the arm and the lower end of which bears on the ground, directly or by means of '' an oscillating sole, constituting in a way a movable heel for the foot of the jack, increasing its lift surface and making it tiltable relative to the upright according to the angular position of the arm, therefore the height of the head of the jack, so that it is always on a vertical passing through said lift surface, or close to it, even for a large deployment of the jack. However, the sliding rod works in compression, and this results in friction and the risk of deformation which can adversely affect the operation of the jack. In addition, this arrangement is relatively expensive and difficult to achieve.

The object of the invention is to produce a jack of low cost price and the positioning of which is carried out easily and automatically in the most stable position.

To this end, the subject of the invention is a jack of the aforementioned type, characterized in that it comprises, on the side of the upright opposite the arm, a crutch which pivots on the upright about an axis of articulation parallel to that of the arm and located below the latter, and which is extended towards the arm by a lever held in abutment on a lower face of the arm by a spring, the free end of the crutch determining with the foot of the jack, when 'They are simultaneously in contact with a substantially horizontal ground, a support surface such that the head and the foot of the jack are always in the vicinity of the same vertical.

Selon quelques caractéristiques avantageuses de l'invention:

  • - la béquille, son axe d'articulation et le levier sont réalisés avec un même fil métallique, la béquille étant formée de deux brins sensiblement parallèles reliés entre eux par un brin transversal constituant son extrémité libre d'appui sur le sol;
  • - l'appui du levier sur le bras s'effectue par son extrémité libre quand le cric est en position d'utilisation, et par un renflement situé entre cette extrémité et l'axe d'articulation de la béquille quand le bras est rabattu contre le montant en vue du rangement du cric, ce rabattement provoquant celui de la béquille contre une face inférieure du montant;
According to some advantageous features of the invention:
  • - the stand, its hinge pin and the lever are made with the same metal wire, the stand being formed of two substantially parallel strands connected together by a transverse strand constituting its free end of bearing on the ground;
  • - the lever is pressed on the arm by its free end when the jack is in the position of use, and by a bulge located between this end and the axis of articulation of the stand when the arm is folded against the upright for the storage of the jack, this folding causing that of the crutch against a lower face of the upright;
  • - The spring is in the form of a hairpin and has on each side of the turns surrounding the axis of articulation of the stand.

  • la fig. 1 est une vue en élévation du cric dans deux positions d'utilisation;
An example embodiment of a jack according to the invention is given below, with reference to the attached drawing in which:
  • fig. 1 is an elevational view of the jack in two positions of use;
  • fig. 2 is a view of the jack in the storage position, in side elevation and in section along line II-II of FIG. 3, and
  • fig. 3 is a top view in partial section along line II-II of FIG. 2.

1, in solid lines, a jack of the type known as Y comprising an upright 1 on which an arm 2 is articulated by one end, around a horizontal axis of articulation 3, and an operating screw 4 carried by two nuts 5 , 6 articulated respectively towards the middle of the arm 2 and at the upper part of the upright 1. The nut 5 is threaded, while the other nut 6 constitutes an axial stop for the screw, so that the rotation of the latter causes a variation in the angular position of the arm 2 relative to the upright 1.

The base of the upright 1 forms a foot 7 resting on the ground 8 and defined by a convex bent transverse plate, and the free end of the arm 2 comprises a housing 9, constituting the head of the jack, which cooperates with a prominence 10 of a vehicle underbody to be lifted and is defined by a concave bent transverse plate.

The arm '2 and the upright 1 are made of stamped sheet metal or folded into a U open upwards, in a known manner: they each have two parallel walls, those 2A of the arm engaging just between those 1 A of the upright, and they are sufficiently rigid so that the Y which they constitute does not deform under the load of the vehicle. The variation of the angular position of the arm relative to the upright, obtained by the rotation of the screw 4, makes it possible to adjust the height of the head 9 of the jack above the ground. Fig.1 shows the jack in two positions of use corresponding respectively to the ground guards of the vehicle, in line with the prominence 10, minimum h 1 (in solid lines) and maximum h 2 (in dashed lines).

According to the invention, the jack further comprises, on the side opposite to the arm 2, a crutch 11 which pivots at one end on the upright 1 about an articulation axis 12 parallel to that of the arm 3 and arranged below of the latter, between this axis 3 and the foot 7. This stand extends beyond the axis 12 by an actuating lever 13 which rests elastically and sliding, under the action of a spring of twist 14, on the underside or core 15 of the arm 2.

More specifically, the stand 11 and the lever 13 are made in one piece of metal wire bent several times at 90 °. From one end of this wire, there is: a transverse end 16 of the lever 13; the longitudinal body of the lever 13, located in the median vertical plane of the arm and the upright; a bend 17 passing outwardly through a hole 18 in one of the side walls 1 A of the upright 1 and constituting one half of the axis 12; a side strand 19 of the stand; the transverse support end 20 of the stand; the other side strand 21 of the stand, and a second bend 22 passing inward a second hole 23 of the other side wall 1 A of the upright, coaxial with the hole 18. Seen in side elevation (fig. 1 and 2 ), the stand 11- lever 13 assembly is rectilinear, with the exception of the extreme half 24 of the lever, which is bent at an obtuse angle downwards by defining a bulge 25 at the top of the elbow.

2.The spring 14 which keeps the actuating lever in abutment against the underside 15 of the arm 2 is a hairpin spring housed between the parallel walls 1 A of the upright and provided with turns surrounding the sections 17 and 22 of the metal wire constituting the crutch. The support of the lever 13 on the arm 2 is effected by its bent free end 16 when the jack is in the use position (fig. 1), and by its bulge 25 when the arm 2 is closer to the upright 1 than 'in the position of use, and in particular when the jack is in its storage position shown in fig. 2.

La position de la béquille est déterminée par la coopération de son levier d'actionnement 13 avec le bras 2.The position of the stand is determined by the cooperation of its actuating lever 13 with the arm 2.

In the storage position, the folding and complete retraction of the arm 2 in the upright 1 causes, by pressing the arm on the bulge 25, the crutch 11 folds down against the upper part of the lower face 26 of the upright.

When the screw 4 is operated, by means of a crank 27, so as to deploy the jack by varying the angular position of the arm, the spring 14 pushes the lever 13 while maintaining its bulge 25 then its end 16 in abutment the underside 15 of the arm, and therefore the stand gradually tilts down relative to the upright. The dimensions of the stand 11 and of the lever 13 as well as the location of the axis 12 are provided so that the free end 20 of the stand determines with the foot 7 of the jack, when this end and this foot are simultaneously in contact with a substantially horizontal ground, a lifting surface such that the head 9 and the foot 7 of the jack are always in the vicinity of the same vertical V, as visible in FIG. 1, that the ground clearance of the vehicle at the jack is minimum h 1 , maximum h 2 or intermediate between these two values.

Thus, during its installation, the jack is deployed so that the distance between its head 9 and its foot 7 is equal to the ground clearance of the prominence 10; the head 9 is engaged on this prominence, and by placing the stand on the ground by its end 20, it is certain that the foot 7 is located substantially vertically above the head 9, which ensures optimal stability of the vehicle as soon as '' it is lifted by the deployed jack by maneuvering the screw 4.

It should be noted that the fact that the stand is positioned by elastic support of its lever 13 against the arm 2, by means of the spring 14, has the advantage of making it eclipsable under the possible action of an excessive thrust exerted on its end 20, which thus avoids its deformation or deterioration.
