Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a method for the construction of houses using prefabricated building elements with auxiliary means for the alignment and a kit of parts for carrying out the method. Several methods and means for construction with preformed parts are known. For such constructions preformed parts of floors, walls and roofs are used, which are supplied as such.
- The French Patent Specification 518.901 relates to a construction with hollow building elements, which are to be assembled with plugs in tape- holes. The French Patent Specification 918.754 describes a construction made of prefabricated elements, assembled and affixed to each other by threaded bars, such that pressure is effected upon adjacent sides of said elements. The elements have rebates and tongues and the bars traverse through the entire body of said elements. Rubber packing strips are placed between the elements to obtain a flat connection (
page 2, lines 2-5). - Auxiliary means for alignment as described in the following will be advantageous, with which standards of accuracy in both planes can be fulfilled.
- This becomes particularly useful, where the structural members and elements are to be assembled by relatively unskilled persons.
- According to the present invention, an accurate matching and fitting can be obtained by the use of templates positioned in grooves and provided with apertures, which exactly predetermine the points for bushes to keep the placement in alignment by said bushes.
- The templates are functioning for the alignment in co-operation with the said bushes.
- The method according to the present invention for the construction of houses and other premises using prefabricated building elements having longitudinal grooves along their edges comprises aligning adjacent building elements by fitting a respective template into each opposed said groove, which templates extend along the entire lengths of said grooves, each template being provided with apertures into which bushes are inserted, and which fit into matching apertures of the adjacent element, and connecting adjacent elements by means of screw threaded securing bars which pass through the adjacent elements.
- A kit of parts for carrying out the method according to the invention comprises a plurality of prefabricated building elements which have longitudinal grooves along their edges, a plurality of templates, each adapted to be fitted into a groove, said templates being provided with apertures, positioned at predetermined points coinciding with through apertures in said elements, said apertures being adapted to receive alignment bushes, and screw threaded securing bars adapted to pass through adjacent said elements to connect the same.
- The sizes and weight of the elements to be used are such that they can easily be carried, supported
- and transported by constructors' labourers. No large or expensive tool or machinery is necessary for assembling. The material can be wood, artificial stone material, plastic, metal, concrete, "Ytong" or "Santorin" building material, or a similar product, or a combination of same.
- The matching apertures and bushes can be marked with numerics and they are applied in such a manner that the positioning of consecutive elements can be carried into effect in a predetermined position.
- By means of the application of the grooves, the gauging templates, matching bushes and alignment apertures, an extremely accurate gauging for the connection of the elements can be obtained.
- The elements can be numbered consecutively and this numbering can be included in the added directions for use, whereby the putting into practice of the parts will be simplified considerably.
- The auxiliary means can be packed in the form of kits completely ready for do-it-yourself-construction and can be supplied in such a form to the building site, together with the building elements.
- The shape of the elements used for the method and the manner of using the system are illustrated in detail as shown in the enclosed Figures 1 and 2. In Figure 1 two elements with auxiliary means according to the present invention are shown isometrically. A is a floor element and B is a wall element. One side is provided with the template and another side is still empty. (1) is a longitudinal groove, (2) is the edge of the building element, (3) is the template, (4) are the apertures and (5) are the bushes to be inserted into the apertures (4).
- In Figure 2 the aligning function in the horizontal and vertical planes is shown.
- Therein (3) are the templates (4), the apertures, and (5) are the bushes to be inserted.
- A premise built in this way can be dismounted again, while the quality of the compiling modular elements remains unchanged, and with these very elements it can be rebuilt elsewhere, such that one obtains a house again having a constructional and statical quality of performance equal to that of the previous premise.
- By an extension with further elements a reconstruction or an enlargement of the house can easily be made.
- The construction of such a premise type may be reproduced in a simple way as well.
- There is also a possibility of removal or displacement, because this type of premise can be demounted with a minimum of expenses.
- The advantages of constructing with the aid of the present system are mainly the good measuring and alignment, the low price and the small sizes and weights of the auxiliary means. Furthermore the simple manner of obtaining a correct alignment is important, such that the assembly and erecting can be done by unskilled labour, if any.
- The mounting can be carried out upon conventional foundations, such as upon pickets or piling and upon concrete base.
- If piling is obligatory with regard to the soil quality, a smaller number of piles than the usual number will be necessary because of the minor weight of the construction.
- For the normal one-family dwelling house an extremely short construction time can be realised.
- It is of its very nature that premises and dwellings can be built also partially with the described method and partially according to conventional techniques.
- Premises erected according to the present method or even partially constructed according to this method possess an improved resistance against damages inflicted by mining or by earthquakes, compared to houses built in the conventional way.
- The system can also be used in regions, where entirely divergent climatological requirements exist, such as in development countries, since the technical and constructional properties and the requirements, to which the premises will be submitted, can be adapted.
