Definitions
- the present invention relates to improvements in
- Service units for caravan parks, marinas and the like have hitherto comprised bulky, unsightly structures, expensive to construct and maintain and generally constructed to suit a single end purpose.
- Multiple Service Unit which provides a structure which is
- meter reading is carried out by separate meter readers which is inefficient in terms of manpower utilization.
- a further disadvantage of such systems is that in order to provide ease of access for meter readers, the meters, which are downstream from a main isolating valve or switch, are exposed and easily tampered with.
- One particular embodiment of the present invention provides a means of overcoming the above problems.
- a hollow body structure for a service unit comprising at least two body members adapted for substantially longitudinal sliding engagement.
- the structure includes a base portion adapted for connection to one end of said hollow body structure.
- the structure may include a cap portion adapted to be attached to the other end of said hollow body structure.
- said cap portion incorporates a lighting means.
- said body members are adapted for substantially longitudinal sliding engagement by a key and slot jointing means.
- said key and slot jointing means comprises a protrusion extending along the longitudinal edges of said body members, said protrusion adapted for sliding engagement with complementary slots extending along the longitudinal edges of an intermediate member.
- the body portions comprise moulded plastics material and said intermediate member comprises an extruded aluminium section.
- the body portions comprise integrally moulded apertures.
- the body portions are adapted for modular interconnection.
- a service unit comprising a hollow body structure as hereinbefore described, said service unit including at least one aperture with a releasably securable cover; and, a power distribution outlet, said -service unit being adpated for connection to a source of electrical power.
- the service unit includes power metering ⁇ means.
- the service unit may include means for connection to a water supply conduit and may further include a water supply meter and a water outlet connection.
- the service unit includes a junction for communications cables connected to a service connection.
- the service unit is adapted for modular construction to selectively provide a plurality of services and facilities.

Plate 21 and cap 18 extend beyond head portion 11 to define a projecting rim.
- a power lead support pole 23 is provided in a socket 24 on cap 18.
- the service unit may be readily converted from say a two power meter unit to a four power meter unit by removing cap and head portions 18 and 11 respectively. Board 10 may then be removed and replaced by a new board with four power meters.
- a modular body section comprising body sections la and 2a is added by sliding intermediate portions 3 upwardly and replacing them with intermediate portions of the required length and then sliding new body sections la and 2a into place.
- Modular sections la and 2a may include a lip on their lower edges for weatherproof connection or a suitable gasket may be formed between abutting upper and lower edges.
- Modular body sections la and 2a are suitably formed from the same injection moulding die as the main body portions 1 and 2 by insertion of appropriate die inserts.
- FIG. 1 is suitable for application in caravan parks and marinas and although not illustrated, suitably comprises the various alternative features of the multiple service units described in our co-pending International Patent Application No.PCT/AU81/00019 e.g. water, communications etc. it will be readily apparent that service units constructed " as described above permit construction and modification to suit many different applications depending on the particular user and owner requirements.
- FIG. 2 there is illustrated a particularly advantageous embodiment of the present invention.
- the service unit illustrated is intended for situation adjacent the front property line of a domestic dwelling, office or factory or a multiplicity of these units would be arranged side by side at a block of flats or home units.
- the unit illustrated comprises a body portion 41 mounted on a frangible base 42.
- a water tap 43 is attached on one side and a lockable door 44 is provided on another side for access to a power distribution socket.
