Abstract

The screwthread in a screw cap for a bottle has at least one gap which interrupts the screwthread, at a position which is spaced at less than 360 DEG from the start of the screwthread whereby, if the screw cap is fitted in an angled position on to the screwthread on the bottle, the screw cap can snap over the first turn of the screwthread on the bottle in order to move into the proper position.

Description

The invention relates to a plastic screw cap for bottles, with a catchy raised thread, which has a single interruption between the beginning and end of the thread, which is located before reaching an angle of 360 ° calculated from the beginning of the thread (lower end of the thread).

In the known plastic screw caps for bottles, there is a risk that when the screw caps are screwed onto the bottles by means of an automatic machine, the screw cap will lie obliquely on the bottle mouth or on the bottle thread. This is the case if the thread start (lower thread end) of the screw cap is in a range from 0 to approx. 180 ° of the bottle thread. Then namely the screw cap thread comes into contact with the bottle thread at initially aligned with respect to the bottle over less than 180 °, so that it is freely above the bottle thread with its larger part and the screw cap when put on, which is done with a certain pressure must, tilts or cant. A screw cap tilted in this way is held by the machine in this tilted position when unscrewed, so that a proper screw connection does not come about. With the invention, the problem is solved to remedy this situation and to design a screw cap of the type mentioned in such a way that it can be screwed on properly by the machine without further notice.

This interruption now makes it easier to widen the circumference of the screw cap in the area of the first thread, so that when the screw cap is put on inside. Nes range of rotation, in which the screw cap would otherwise lie obliquely, can now snap over the first turn of the thread of the screw cap over the first thread of the bottle thread with little effort and thereby the screw cap comes to lie flat and can be opened properly.

The interruption is preferably provided at a point at which the force for snapping the screw cap thread over the bottle neck thread when placing the screw cap, when it comes to lie at an angle, is on average the lowest.

This is based on the following facts. The greatest inclined position of the screw cap is achieved when the thread start lies on the thread start. In this case, it is also relatively easy with the known plastic screw caps to transfer the screw cap into a straight position by snapping it over the bottle neck thread, so that it can be screwed on properly. If the screw cap is rotated from the point at which the screw cap assumes its largest inclined position, the inclined position gradually decreases in accordance with the thread pitch, but the force required to snap over increases until it reaches a maximum value, and then to take off again. Finally, the screw cap lies with most of its first turn on the first turn of the bottle thread, so that there is no longer an inclined position.

It is therefore also expedient to place the interruption in the place of the screw cap thread which is as far away from the beginning of the screw cap thread as the place where the beginning of the thread of the screw cap is from the beginning of the bottle thread when the force to snap over becomes greatest.

The points mentioned above can easily be verified by hand.

From the above it is clear that, if there are no other special features, the point at which the interruption is provided on the screw cap thread will be approximately 90 ° away from the beginning of the screw cap thread.

The threads of the screw cap and bottle can have several turns, but the interruption is always provided only in the first turn of the screw cap thread.

Screw caps similar to the screw cap according to the invention are already known, but these screw caps are based on completely different problems. For example, a screw cap according to DE-A-3 006 481 is one with a two-start thread, which is placed in such a way that the threaded ends of the bottle neck and screw cap adjoin one another, the screw cap then snapping vertically over the threads of the bottle and is pressed into the end position. However, this does not result in the problem on which the invention is based and therefore there is no interruption in the thread of the screw cap.

From US-A-3 402 842 and US-A-1 351 496 plastic screw caps are known, the threads of which have several interruptions. However, these are quick-release and safety closures, with the interruptions in the thread serving to allow corresponding thread sections on the bottle neck to pass through when the screw cap is put on. Here, too, the task is completely different from that of the invention.

The invention is illustrated again in the accompanying drawing, which comprises two figures, of which FIG. 1 shows a view from below of the open side of the screw cap and FIG. 1 shows a section through the screw cap. The thread 10 of the screw cap with the The start of thread 12 is interrupted at point 14, the thread ends at the point of interruption 14 being chamfered as shown.
