Definitions

  • the invention relates to a tool holder for hanging up tools on a board, rail, wall, or the like having a substantially vertical surface, said tool holder comprising an element made integrally of wire or strip material, which has an attachment for mounting the element to said substantially vertical surface, the tool holder having the characteristics as claimed in the precharacterising part of claim 1.
  • a holder is known for example, from US-A-3682426.
  • Tool holders of this type are simple and are easy to manufacture and they are available in different embodiments adapted for hanging up tools of different types, said holders most often being constructed for attachment to a board having regular perforations, e.g. a fibreboard with holes in vertical and horizontal rows equally spaced.
  • a board having regular perforations e.g. a fibreboard with holes in vertical and horizontal rows equally spaced.
  • a tool holder specifically adapted to said tool it is usually necessary to provide for a tool of a specific type a tool holder specifically adapted to said tool, and accordingly it is necessary to use several different holder types for hanging up a tool set of common extent.
  • the object of the invention is to make possible the use of tool holders of one and the same type for tools of different types while allowing the tool to be easily hung up on and removed from the tool holder, the tool being securely retained on the tool holder when hung up thereon.
  • the tool holder of the type referred to above has, according to the invention, the characteristics as claimed in claim 1.
  • the tool holder disclosed in Figs. 1 to 5 comprises an element made integrally of a metal strip, which includes two straight limbs 10 joining a V-shaped portion 11 arranged between the limbs. This portion converges from the limb towards the apex 12 thereof and includes an acute angle ⁇ , Fig. 2, with the limbs 10. This angle can be of the order of 45°.
  • the limbs form at the free ends thereof hooks 13 which extend in opposite directions.
  • the tool holder is adapted to be releasably mounted to a perforated board 14, Fig. 5, of a conventional type, e.g. a hard fibreboard which has vertical and horizontal rows of circular holes 15 equally spaced in a regular pattern.
  • the board is mounted in a vertical position to a wall or a stand in such a way that there is a free space behind the board.
  • the tool holder which should be made of such material that the limbs 10 can be compressed elastically, is mounted to the board by one hook 13 being inserted into a hole 15, the other hook, then being inserted into another hole. Then, the limbs are allowed to spring back and thus the tool holder is fastened to the board 14.
  • the spacing of the limbs 10 should of course be adapted to the spacing of the holes 15 in the board to which the tool holder is to be mounted.
  • the tool holder is reliably held in position but in order to make the mounting still more reliable one hook 13, viz. the hook to be inserted in a hole 15 initially, can be somewhat longer than the other hook which must not be longer than it can pass without hindrance through a hole 15.
  • the limbs 10 project substantially perpendicularly (horizontally) from the board 14 and the V-shaped portion 11 located at the lower side of the limbs 10 bears against the board at the apex 12 thereof.
  • a tool such as a screw-driver 16 to be hung up on the board 14 can be located easily in the V-shaped portion 11 and due to the inclination and convergence of this portion will reach a position closer to the apex 12 wherein the tool is reliably retained on the board. In this manner, tools of the most varying forms can be hung up on the board 1,4 very reliably by means of the tool holder described. It is very easy to hang up the tool and it is as easy to remove the tool from the board when it is to be used.
  • the V-shaped portion 11 can have a plastic coating which increases the friction between the tool and the tool holder and facilitates a still more reliable retainment of the tool in the tool holder, the generation of noise by vibration of the tool in the tool holder due to the presence of vibrations in the space where the tool holder is being used, at the same time being prevented.
  • the plastic coating can be grooved or can be formed with other irregularities at the inner sides of the limbs of the V-shaped portion in order to further improve the engagement between the tool holder and the tool.
  • the grooves extend in the transverse direction of the limbs and have curved tips.
  • the tool holder is arranged for mounting to a perforated board in the manner that is shown in Fig. 5. It is also possible to mount the tool holder to a rail which is mounted by means of screws to a wall or the like and forms holes for the insertion of the hooks 13.
  • the rail should be designed or mounted to the wall in such a way that there is a distance between the rail and the wall which leaves space for the hooks.
  • the tool holder can also be arranged such that it can be mounted directly to a wall by means of screws, and this is disclosed in Fig. 6 which also shows that several V-shaped portions can be arranged between the mounting positions of the tool holder. In Fig.
  • the tool holder has between two limbs 10 two V-shaped portions 11 A and 11 B, respectively, and each limb forms a flat portion 17 to be engaged with the wall and having a hole for the insertion of a fastening screw 18. It can also be seen from Fig. 6 that two tool holders of this type are made as an integral unit such that one flat portion 17 is common and the tool holder in its entirety thus is arranged for hanging up four tools and is mounted to the wall by means of three fastening screws 18.
  • the attachments of the limbs 10 can of course be designed and arranged in different manners in order to be adapted for mounting of the tool holders on boards or walls of different constructions.
  • the angle of the apex 12 should be of the order of 45° but neither this angle nor the angle ⁇ is critical in this connection. It should also be mentioned that the tool holder can be made in different sizes so as to be used for larger or smaller tools. However, the form of the tool holder will be the same independently of the tool holder being large or small.
