Abstract

A contactor apparatus comprising means for automatically opening power circuits should faults occur and a local control member. For this working position of the lever 79, the tooth 83 cannot cooperate with the ramp 86 so that the switch 4 will remain open and that no closing of the power contacts 2 can take place. The only stable position that the local control member 18 can take will therefore be position D, or position O if a corresponding action is exerted on this member.

Claims (12)

1. A contactor apparatus comprising an electromagnet (1) for controlling power contacts (2) and means for automatically opening these power contacts (2) which each respond, on the one hand, to the appearance of short circuit currents in one of the power circuits through a first coil (11) and a striker (28), and on the other hand, to the appearance of overload currents either instantaneous, or of longer duration, through a second coil (13) associated with a plate (34) and, respectively with a bimetallic strip (14), each power contact (2) being adapted to cooperate, after striking, with a locking member (16) which holds it in the open position, this apparatus having a local control member (18) adapted to reset the automatic opening means and to close again a control switch (4) placed in series with the coil (3) of the electromagnet (1), characterized in that the local control member (18) is subjected to an internal resilient force (35) and cooperates:
- on the one hand, with a first sudden tripping mechanism (31) of which it forms part (32) and which is adapted to hold it in a first stable position (F), obtained by external means, and which effects closure (e) of the control swith (4) for this single position (F), and
- cooperates, on the other hand, (j) with a second sudden tripping mechanism (17), either so as to maintain a second stable position (0) which is given to the control member by external means, or so as to assume automatically a third stable position (D) between the preceding ones, when the first mechanism is tripped by the second mechanism, this second mechanism being tripped by thrusts (g, d) exerted without connection,
- or directly by means (16) reacting when the mobile contact (12) of the power contact (2) is locked following energization of said first coil (11 ) associated with the striker (28) placed in series with the power contact (2),
- or indirectly by a third sudden tripping mechanism (19) which is released by the movements (b, c) supplied by a plate (34) of said second coil (13) or respectively a bimetallic strip (14), placed in series with the first coil and with the power contact (2),

said second and third mechanisms (17, 19) receiving a resetting movement (j, K) supplied by the local control member (18) when this latter is brought by external means into a fourth position (R) which is opposite the first position.
2. The contactor apparatus according to Claim 1, characterized in that the sudden tripping of the first mechanism (31 ) is obtained by the cooperation of a locking lever (79) with a surface (86) carried by a mobile part (32) which is associated with the local member (18), this lever cooperating also with a second sudden tripping mechanism (17).
3. The contactor apparatus according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the resetting (r or k) and unlocking (q or h) movements applied to the third sudden tripping mechanism (19) and respectively to the bolt (16) which maintains a power contact (2) in the open position, after a short circuit, are transmitted by the second sudden tripping mechanism (17).
4. The contactor apparatus according to Claim 3, characterized in that the resetting (r) and unlocking (q) movements are transmitted by the same paths as those which communicate the tripping actions (r and respectively q) to the second sudden tripping mechanism (17).
5. The contactor apparatus according to one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that it comprises a base (20) having a multiplicity (n) of pockets (41) adapted each to receive a removable power contact cartridge (24) containing the fixed and mobile elements (49, 50, 12, 15) of the contact (2), a coil (11), a pusher (48), a bolt (16) and its return spring (56) and a striker (28).
6. The contactor apparatus according to Claim 5, characterized in that a removable protection module (23), containing a multiplicity (n) of bimetallic strips (13) and coils (14) and the third sudden tripping mechanism (19), is fixed to the base and is connected electrically to the coils (11).
7. The contactor apparatus according to Claim 5 or 6, characterized in that a mechanical plate (22), containing the first and second sudden tripping mechanisms (31 ) respectively (17), the control member (18) and a transmission part or means (32), is fixed to the base (20).
8. The contactor apparatus according to Claim 7, characterized in that this plate (22) contains at least a part of the fixed or mobile elements of the control switch (4).
9. The contactor apparatus according to Claim 8, characterized in that a removable sub-assembly (21 ) containing at least a part (44) (3) of the fixed elements of the electromagnet (1) is removably fixed to the base (20) to give access to the coil (3) of the electromagnet (1).
10. The contactor apparatus according to one of Claims 2 to 9, characterized in that the mobile transmission part (32) occupies the said first position (F) through the cooperation of a surface (86) with a locking tooth (83) of the first tripping mechanism (31) and assumes said third and second positions (D and 0) through the cooperation of a pin (78) of the second mechanism (17) with other surfaces (89, 91 ) carried by this mobile part (32).
11. The contactor apparatus according to Claim 10, characterized in that said pin (78) receives from a surface (91 ) of the mobile transmission part (32) a resetting action acting on the second sudden tripping mechanism (17).
12. The contactor apparatus according to one of Claims 2 to 11, characterized in that movement transmission means (93) are adapted to cooperate with a mobile part (45) of the electromagnet (1) and with a particular surface (92) of the mobile part (32) so as to effect forced opening of the power contacts (2) between said first and second positions (F and 0) of the local control member.
