- the dagger When using a lapping machine like this, the dagger is connected to the expansion rod of the lapping machine. When it sinks into the body, the sloping surfaces with which it is fitted, move the bars outwards; the lapping is expanding. Generally, the lapping machine has springs which tend to apply the bars to the sloping surfaces and which bring these bars back inside the body of the lapping machine when the dagger is moved in the direction corresponding to its withdrawal.
- the radial position of the bars and, consequently, the working diameter of the lapping are determined precisely when the dagger sinks into the body of the lapping, it is not the same, as a result of friction, when the dagger is moved in the direction corresponding to its withdrawal.

These segments hold the bars in abutment on the sloping surfaces of the dagger, so that the bars are moved radially by the dagger in a positive way both when this dagger is pressed into the body of the lapping and when it is moved in the opposite direction .

This body is pierced with a first cylindrical hole 4 in the control head and with a second cylindrical hole 5 of smaller diameter in the active part; the two cylindrical holes 4 and 5 communicate and are separated from each other by a shoulder 6.
- the active part 2 can be protected externally by a diamond coating and has longitudinal 7 and circumferential 8 grooves; it further comprises longitudinal openings opening into the interior recess and arranged radially.
- the lights 9 have a length slightly less than the active part of the lapping and each contain a bar 10.
- the bars 10 have a length and a thickness practically equal to the length of the lights 9 and to the width of these lights.
