Description

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung gemäß Oberbegriff von Anspruch 1.The invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1.

From DE-OS 27 31 799 a melting and application device of the type mentioned in connection with an edge banding machine is known in which the melting wall is integrally connected to the application device. From heating elements in the nozzle body of the application device, the heat reaches the melting wall, which is provided with concentric annular grooves and from which the melted hot melt adhesive is supplied to the application device through outlet openings arranged on one side.

However, this arrangement can lead to the fact that the molten hot melt adhesive is not always fed uniformly and in the maximum possible amount of melt to the application device. The should \ melting temperature different melt adhesive locations are adjusted, while for the application device a constant temperature is desired, the generally differs from the melting temperature.

The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a melting and application device for hot melt adhesives, the temperatures of which can be optimally adjusted to different types of hot melt adhesive and to different working conditions and with which a uniform and as high a possible conveyance of the melted hot melt adhesive and thus the highest possible working speed can be achieved .

This object is achieved in that a melting insert provided with the melting wall is arranged between the melting chamber and the application device.

This makes it possible to u. to heat the melting wall with different temperatures so that an optimal adaptation to the given working conditions is possible. If a material with high thermal conductivity, such as e.g. If a light metal alloy is used, the heat of the heating device is communicated to the hot melt adhesive particularly quickly. This has a particularly favorable effect when commissioning the edge banding machine, since the heating-up time for the melt application is very short until the edge banding machine starts. On the other hand, it is possible to manufacture the application device from a metallic material of high strength and thus to achieve a long service life for this application device. However, since these high strength metallic materials are poor heat conductors, their use as a melt insert would significantly increase the times for heating and cooling. The use of different materials for the application device and for the melt insert therefore advantageously corresponds to both the mechanical and the thermal requirements of the entire device.

The arrangement according to the invention of melting pins on the melting wall, into which channels extend which connect the melting chamber with a storage chamber arranged between the melt insert and the application device, has the advantage that the hot melt adhesive is melted off evenly and is fed centrally to the storage chamber. This significantly improves the performance of the edge banding machine.

Due to the inventive arrangement of a supply duct for the hot-melt adhesive from the storage chamber to the application device, which opens into the lower region of the storage chamber '. it is ensured that no dormant hot melt adhesive layer forms in the lower area of the storage chamber, but that there is a continuous flow of the molten hot melt adhesive to the applicator. Since the temperature sensor for controlling the heating device for the melt insert is also arranged in the lower region of the storage chamber, safe temperature control for the melt insert is ensured. This temperature sensor is not only influenced by the temperature of the melted hot melt adhesive, but also by the temperature of the melt insert or the melt wall. An optimal control characteristic curve for the melting temperature of the melting wall is thus automatically formed from these two temperature values.

An exemplary embodiment of the invention is described in more detail below with reference to the drawings.

For this purpose, a wedge-shaped nozzle body 2 is provided with application bores 3, which open into a feed channel 4 (see also FIG. 2). The application of the hot melt adhesive is controlled in a known manner by means of a rotary slide valve 5, the nozzle body 2 is heated by a heating element 6, the temperature of which is controlled by a temperature sensor 7.

A melting device 8 is connected to the application device 1 (FIG. 2), which essentially has a melting chamber 9 and a melting insert 10. This closes the melting chamber 9 with its melting wall 11, against which the hot-melt adhesive unit 13 is pressed by means of a delivery piston 12.

The cylindrical melting insert 10 is fastened with screws 14 to the nozzle body 2 of the application device 1 (FIGS. 1 and 3). The melting wall 11 facing the melting chamber 9 is formed by melting pins 15 (see also FIG. 4), which are distributed uniformly and symmetrically over the cross section of the melting insert 10. On the opposite side, the melting insert 10 is curved so concavely that a storage chamber 16 is formed. This storage chamber 16 is divided in the middle by vertical webs 17 which begin at the upper edge of the storage chamber 16 and end at a certain distance from the lower edge of the storage chamber. In this lower region of the storage chamber 16 there is a projection 18 of the melting insert 10, to which a temperature sensor 19 is conductively connected. This temperature sensor 19 influences heating elements 20, which are used to heat the melting insert 10. Since this is made of a light metal alloy, the heat of the heating elements 20 is quickly passed on to the melting wall 11.

Sie verbinden damit die Schmelzkammer 9 mit der Vorratskammer 16.Starting from the storage chamber 16, the melting insert 10 is penetrated by vertical channels 21, which partially extend into the melting pins 15. They thus connect the melting chamber 9 to the storage chamber 16.

During operation of the melting and application device, the part of the hot-melt adhesive unit 13 which is in contact with the heated melting wall 11 is melted and the melted hot-melt adhesive is pressed through the channels 21 into the storage chamber 16 under the action of the delivery piston 12. From there, the hot melt adhesive gets between the bottom the webs 17 into the feed channel 4 and further via the application holes 3 onto the narrow side surface of the workpiece.

In the present embodiment, the hot melt adhesive is applied via a wedge-shaped nozzle body. However, this application can also be carried out by means of a glue roller, to which the hot-melt adhesive, as described, is fed via the feed channel 4.

Furthermore, there is the possibility of using the melting device according to the invention together with known application guns for hot melt adhesives, such as are used in particular in the manufacture of furniture.
