Abstract

1. Feeder for castings of cast-iron with a cylindrical hood (3) consisting of an exothermic heating material, which keeps the casting material located in the feeder liquid until the completion of contraction through the region of the casting to be fed and which reaches as far as the gate surface (7) of the feeder, in which case the volume of the feeder corresponds to the quantity of the contraction volume plus a maximum safety amount of 30% of the contraction volume, characterised in that the gate surface is constructed to be substantially rectangular and the feeder volume is likewise constructed to be substantially rectangular in all cross sections, in which case the cross sections of the feeder volume do not increase with respect to the cross section of the gate surface and that the length (L) of the cross section of the feeder volume and the gating surface (6) of the feeder amounts to more than twice the average width (B) of the cross section of the feeder volume and of the gate surface.
