Abstract

Strip-shaped terminal elements (1) for the connection without stripping of electrical conductors. Such a terminal element (1) should be designed such that it can be produced cost-effectively. For this purpose, within the strip (2) there is a cut-out (3), the centre region (4) of which is of circular design, zones (5, 6) extending in a wedge-shape being connected on both sides of this region (4) in the longitudinal direction of the strip (2). In this arrangement, the terminal element (1) is bent such that the circular-shaped region (4) is located at the apex of the bend. By these means, the conductor to be connected can be inserted easily and quickly and is made contact with securely in the zones (5, 6) extending in a wedge-shape in each case on opposite sides (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a clamping element consisting of a flat strip for stripping-free connection of insulated electrical conductors.

Such clamping elements are known in numerous embodiments and mainly consist of a spring plate with a punched-out slot into which the insulated conductor is pressed by means of a tool. Since the clear width of the slot is slightly smaller than the conductor core diameter, the insulation of the conductor is penetrated on opposite sides and an intimate contact is made between the conductor and the clamping element.

The object of the present invention is to provide a clamping element which can be produced simply and cheaply and which can also be used as a single element or in a housing for several people.

This object is achieved in that the clamping element has in its one end region a recess located within the strip, the central region of which is circular, with wedge-shaped zones extending on both sides of this region and that the clamping element is bent so that the circular area is located at the apex of this turn.

With such a design of the stripped free connection of an insulated conductor permitting area, this clamping element can be created inexpensively by means of a simple stamping and bending process. The design of the recess has the further advantage that a conductor can easily be inserted through the circular area into the actual clamping area when it is clamped. Here, the tapered zones are designed so that their ends have a smaller internal width than the core diameter of the conductor to be clamped. Because of the wedge-shaped design of the zones mentioned, conductors of different thicknesses can be contacted with the clamping element, and the clamped conductor is contacted with the element at four points, so that reliable contacting is always guaranteed.

The free end of the clamping element adjacent to this recess can have a recess whose inside width is equal to or slightly less than the outer diameter of the insulated conductor. If this end containing the recess is bent toward the end region having the recess in such a way that the recess and the wedge-shaped zones lie approximately in one line of alignment, then, as already mentioned, the insulation of the conductor is severed in the region of the zones mentioned, the recess at the free end engages around the insulation of the conductor and forms a strain relief for the actual contact points. With this recess, too, the insertion of the conductor can be facilitated in that the free end regions of this recess are provided with bevels. The conductor can be pressed in with a pressure piece which bears against the conductor at several points.

The invention will be explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment.

It shows
  • Fig. 1 shows a part of the clamping element in a developed form
  • Fig. 2 shows the clamping element partially fixed in an insulating housing in a side view
  • Fig. 3 shows the clamping element of FIG. 2 in a rear view.

The clamping element 1 shown in the figures and consisting of a flat strip of resilient material has in an end region 2 a recess 3 located within the strip, the central region 4 of which is circular. On both sides of this area 4 there are wedge-shaped zones 5 and 6, the closed ends 7 of which each have a clear width which is smaller than the outer diameter of a conductor core 8 (FIG. 3). The one free end 9, on the other hand, has a recess 10, the clear width of which is smaller or equal to the outer diameter of an insulated conductor 11 (FIG. 3).

As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the clamping element 1 is bent in such a way that, seen from the free end 9, first a rectangular base region 12 and an adjoining arcuate region 13 is formed, which then merges into the other free end 14. This other free end can e.g. serve as a plug contact or for connecting additional conductors using known connection techniques.

5 Patentansprüche 3 FigurenDue to the bending of the clamping element strip shown in FIG. 2, with the recess 10 and the wedge-shaped tapering zones lying approximately in one line of alignment, the insulation of the conductor 11 is increased Weil intersected two opposite points in the wedge-shaped tapered zones-5 and 6 and thus an intimate contact of the conductor core with the metallic clamping element was made. In contrast, the conductor 11 is held in the recess 10 with strain relief. In this case, the indentation of the conductor 11 is made easier once by the circular area 4 and by the bevels 15 and 16. The indentation can take place, for example, by means of a pressure piece which engages the conductor at three points. This clamping element 1 can be used as a single element and, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, can be partially embedded in plastic 17. 5 claims 3 figures
