Description

The invention relates to an arrangement for welding a contact piece onto a contact carrier for an electrical switching device by means of ultrasound, with a welding anvil, a receptacle resting thereon for holding the contact carrier and with a sonotrode, the welding anvil and the receptacle being penetrated by a bore in which the contact material is pressed against the contact carrier by means of a stamp.

In the past, contact pieces on contact carriers have either been soldered or riveted. With certain erosion-resistant materials, e.g. Ag-CdO, Ag-SnO and the like, soldering or welding is very difficult because such contact piece materials have a low soldering and / or welding ability. One has therefore applied one or more intermediate layers made of silver or a silver alloy between the contact piece made of the materials mentioned and the contact piece support made of copper, which "mediate" the soldering or welding on the one hand on the copper contact piece support and on the other hand on the contact piece. Given the sharp rise in raw material prices and especially silver prices, such welding is complex and expensive.

A method for connecting contact bodies to contact carriers has become known (DE-B-1 564 572), in which an ultrasonic welding is carried out. The contact body is fed as a blank to the oscillator (sonotrode) of an ultrasonic welding device, which is designed as a stamp for the contact, and is deformed to its final shape by the simultaneous action of considerable pressure and ultrasonic vibrations and at the same time is welded to the contact carrier. For this purpose, the head of the vibrator has a dome-shaped recess corresponding to the contact size to be produced, with cutting edges on its contact surface.

It is also known to compare DE-B-2 642 339 to produce a contact body in which a contact piece is connected to a carrier by sound or ultrasonic welding. Particles of an abrasive powder are interposed between the contact piece and the support in the area of the parting plane, which irregularly tear open the surface of the contact piece and the support in the connection area during the ultrasonic welding process, so that this roughening of the surfaces to be welded has a favorable influence on the welding process and Acceleration of the cold welding is achieved.

Another possibility is shown in FR-A-2 308 181, in which an intermediate layer is provided between the contact carrier and the contact piece, a die for the contact piece being formed in the oscillating head.

In all of the methods mentioned, a recess provided in the oscillator serves as a die for the contact piece. This results in the problem that excess material for the contact piece as a result of the contact pressure and the plasticization during the welding process - since it is not compressible - can be pressed out like a ridge in die forgings between the oscillating head and the contact carrier or between the contact carrier and the holder holding it, which makes post-processing necessary.

To remedy this, it can therefore be expedient to choose an arrangement which has a space which can be adapted to the respective contact piece volume and in which the contact piece is pressed against the contact carrier with the required pressing force. However, as a concrete implementation of this consideration shows (FIGS. 1 and 2), a flowing away of the contact piece material cannot be ruled out here either.

The object of the invention is therefore to provide arrangements of the type mentioned at the outset in which the contact piece material does not flow away during the welding process.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that either a ring-shaped annular projection protruding from the surface of the receptacle facing the contact piece carrier or a surface protruding from the receptacle face facing the receptacle, integrally formed on the receptacle or on the contact piece carrier, is provided is.

According to a further solution to the problem, when processing very thin contact piece carriers, a protruding from the surface of the sonotrode facing the contact piece carrier for transferring the ultrasonic energy to the welding point is formed on the sonotrode, the hole in the receptacle on the side of the contact piece carrier facing away from the sonotrode comprehensive ring projection provided.

The ring beads, which act as a sealing edge, prevent the contact piece material from flowing away to the side during the actual welding process.

A known embodiment and exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing.

It shows:
  • 1 and 2 a known arrangement before the welding process and during the welding process,
  • 3 to 6 each have different configurations of an arrangement according to the invention.

An ultrasound welding device 12 is mounted on a base frame 10 and carries a sonotrode or oscillator 14. F denotes the direction of vibration of the sonotrode 14. The base frame 10 has an opening or recess 16 into which an anvil 20 provided with a collar 18 is fitted, on the upper surface of which a receptacle 22 is fastened, on which a contact piece carrier 24 is placed. The anvil 20 and the receptacle 22 are each penetrated by a bore 26 or 28, the diameter of the bore 26 being larger than the diameter of the bore 28. To apply a compressive force during the actual welding process, a piston 30 of a pressure device, not shown, is provided. which is designed with two areas 29 and 31. The region 29 with a larger diameter is in the bore 26 of the anvil 20 20 and the region 31 with a smaller diameter is guided in the bore 28 of the receptacle 22. Of course, the outside diameter of the area 29 corresponds to the inside diameter of the bore 26 and the outside diameter of the area 31 corresponds to the inside diameter of the bore 28. This inside diameter of the bore 28 also corresponds in cross section to the cross section of the contact piece not shown in FIG. 1.

The device works as follows: A wire section 32, which is made of contact piece material, is inserted manually or automatically into the bore 26 of the anvil 20. The contact piece carrier 24 is then placed on the receptacle adapted to the contact piece carrier 24. During the welding process, the sonotrode 14 moves in the direction of the arrow F 1 onto the contact carrier 24 and presses it onto the receptacle 22 with a certain pressure force. The piston 30, which engages in the bore 28 of the receptacle, then presses the wire section 32 with a certain pressure force F 2 to the carrier part 24. The ultrasound is then triggered and the wire section is welded to the carrier part 24 while simultaneously shaping the contact piece. After the welding process has ended, the individual movable elements, the sonotrode 14 and the piston 30, move back into the starting position shown in FIG. 1.

In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2, parts of the wire 32 can flow out as a result of cold flow due to the action of pressure and ultrasound between the upper surface of the receptacle 22 and the surface of the contact piece carrier 24 touching it (see arrow direction F 3 or F 4 ). The reason for this can be seen in the fact that the pressure with which the piston is pressed against the contact piece from below is very high, that the contact pressure of the sonotrode 14 is reduced in the direction of the arrow F 1 , and thus the seal in the area of the contacting surfaces between the contact piece carrier and the receptacle is no longer sufficient. However, it is not possible to reduce the contact pressure in such a way that it no longer flows away, since otherwise sufficient welding can no longer be guaranteed.

There are several ways to prevent it from flowing away:

According to FIG. 3, a bead-shaped sealing edge 34 is formed on the surface of the receptacle 22 which faces the contact carrier 24 and surrounds the bore 28 of the receptacle 22. During the welding process, an annular groove 36 is pressed into the contact piece carrier 24 by the sealing edge 34 due to the ultrasonic vibrations and the resulting contact pressure with which the contact piece carrier 24 is pressed onto the receptacle by the sonotrode 14 in the direction of the arrow F 1 , which acts as a seal works and prevents the contact material from flowing away.

Another embodiment of the invention can be seen from FIGS. 4 and 5. 4 shows the device before welding and FIG. 5 shows the device during the welding process. The contact piece carrier 38 has a projection 40 on its surface facing the receptacle 22, which conversely corresponds to the projection 34 on the receptacle. This projection 40 has been brought about in that the contact piece 38 is punched accordingly in its entirety; one can see on the surface of the contact piece carrier 38 opposite the projection, an annular groove 42 originating from the stamping process, but which is not necessary for the invention. During the welding process, the contact piece carrier 38 is pressed onto the receptacle 22 in the same way as in the known embodiment. Under the action of the ultrasonic vibrations, the projection 40 fits tightly against the receptacle 22 and also definitely prevents the contact material from flowing away. It has been found that after the welding process is complete, the projection 40 is completely reformed. Although this solution also leads to the goal, the one according to FIG. 3 is preferred.

In contrast to the arrangements according to FIGS. 3 to 5, a protrusion 44 is formed on the surface of the sonotrode 14, which is placed on the contact piece carrier 24, the circumscribed cross-sectional area of the cross-sectional area of the bore 24 in the device according to FIG Recording 22 or the contact piece attached later corresponds. This arrangement can only be used with relatively thin contact piece carriers, i.e. in those contact piece carriers in which the local strong pressure increase exerted by the projection is passed on to the contact piece carrier, so that in the area outside the opening 28 a pressure peak from the contact piece carrier onto the upper surface of the Recording is exercised, similar to the configuration according to FIG. 4.

In all of these configurations, it has been found that a seal against flow away of the contact piece material was reliably brought about during the welding process.
