Definitions
- the invention relates to an electrode for arc furnaces made of a separable upper section made of metal and a replaceable lower section made of consumable or only slowly consumed material, which have a substantially cylindrical shape and by a screw nipple or the g l. are connected to one another, the upper section having a liquid cooling device with a flow channel and a return channel.
- Electrodes of this type as are known for example from DE-AS 27 39 483, have the advantage over conventional carbon electrodes that only the tip of the electrode can be used up and must be replaced. In contrast, the remaining electrode part, namely the liquid-cooled electrode holder, can be used over a longer period of time.
- Electrodes of this type are subjected to considerable stress when used in an arc furnace, in particular one in which scrap is melted down. Damage to the electrode, for example in the area of the high-temperature-resistant coating or in the liquid-cooled upper part of the electrode, can already occur when the electrode is moved into the oven. There is also a risk of arcing between the upper metal shaft, which conducts the electrical current, in which the coolant is guided and the metallic insert of the arc furnace. In addition, the slipping of shot parts into the melt results in mechanical stresses, and such and other faults can lead to electrode failure, water ingress into the arc furnace due to leakage of the coolant and explosions.
- Electrodes of this type have become known, for example, from DE-OS 1 565 208 and US Pat. No. 3,689,740, the arc being conducted over the electrode tip at sufficient speed by means of magnetic fields. Such electrodes have so far not been able to assert themselves in arc furnaces in which scrap is melted due to the risk of short-circuiting when the electrodes are retracted or the tendency to damage when the batch is melted down.
- European patent application 79302809.3 describes a likewise ceramic-protected electrode, in which the liquid cooling is central in the metal shaft runs. For additional security, graphite rods are inserted in it, the breakage or erosion of which can be controlled by the pressure of gas flowing around these rods. Although such a design of the metal shaft makes it easier to check mechanical damage, the overall design of the electrode is relatively complex and mechanical damage to the metal shaft that actually occurs can only be remedied with considerable effort after the entire electrode has been removed.
- DE-AS 27 39 483 also describes an electrode of the type mentioned at the outset, in which the liquid cooling, among other things.
- ring channels directly on the outer wall ensure that the liquid return is directly adjacent to the outer surface line of the metal shaft, so that the outer wall of the metal shaft simultaneously represents the inner wall of the return channel.
- the invention has for its object to provide a safe working, maintenance-friendly and less prone to failure electrode.
- it should be easy to assemble or disassemble for inspection.
- the cooling liquid should be prevented from escaping and rapid, simple repairs should be possible while minimizing downtimes.
- an electrode of the type mentioned at the outset which is characterized in that an inner part and an outer part of the upper section are designed to be detachable from one another in such a way that the inner part contains the liquid guiding chamber with flow and return channels, and the outer Part of the inner part may only be covered in a partial section.
- the outer part represents the connection electrode and can consist of the same metal or metal alloy as the inner part. Cooling bores or the like can be made in the outer part. Furthermore, it is also possible to drill holes in the outer part, e.g. for guiding and storing insulating protective layers underneath.
- the inner part is encased by the outer part only in a partial area, so that the metal shaft as a whole can be formed from an upper area of larger diameter and a lower area of smaller diameter.
- the inner part can be caused by a high temperature be resistant insulating layer which, for example, advantageously adjoins the outer part downwards and extends up to the vicinity of the screw nipple or the like or beyond to a generally small partial coverage of the consumable part.
- the high-temperature-resistant insulating layer can consist of ceramic material, but also of graphite coated with ceramic material.
- the insulating layer can consist of a solid molded part, for example a coated graphite single tube or a series of sub-segments, which can hold themselves independently in a counter bearing, for example according to the tongue and groove system, and are movable in the direction of the electrode axis.
- the electrode in which the inner part is encased in an upper part region, in particular in the region of the side power supply, it is generally not necessary to additionally coat the outer part with a ceramic, insulating coating.
- this will depend on the respective dimensioning of the height of the outer part in relation to the inner part and can be determined accordingly depending on the use and purpose of the electrode.
- the inner part of the electrode is led into the nipple connection with which the upper section of metal and the consumable lower section are connected.
- the liquid cooling device of the inner part which runs axially in the latter, is advantageously inserted into the screw nipple itself, since this is more special, depending on the material used May be exposed to heat.
- connection between the inner and outer part can be done in several ways.
- the connecting line is usually parallel to the electrode axis.
- the detachable connection can be made by means of a thread or by correspondingly fitting the parts. It is particularly preferred when the inner part is constructed as a adapter piece in conical or cone shape!, 'Wherein the outer and inner member optionally can additionally comprise a thread in a partial area.
- Connection jaws e.g. be attached via pockets or holders with which the power supply for the electrode is connected.
- pockets are fastened to the outer part, in which graphite plates or segments are introduced for power supply.
- a number of advantages are achieved by designing the electrode according to the invention. Due to the water routing in the inner part, it remains intact even if the outer part is mechanically damaged. In the event of damage to the outer area of the upper section, it is therefore not necessary to stop the supply of coolant, to empty the electrode, etc. Because of the simple detachability of the outer section, it can be easily replaced in the event of damage as a component, while the conventional constructions are complete Repair or replace the metal shaft. Due to the lateral power supply, for example via graphite contact jaws or segments, which are attached, for example, in holding pockets, it is in the event of malfunctions in the Area of the internal fluid guide is not necessary to carry out the electrode as a whole from the contact rail, since only the inner part can be triggered.

Description
The invention relates to an electrode for arc furnaces made of a separable upper section made of metal and a replaceable lower section made of consumable or only slowly consumed material, which have a substantially cylindrical shape and by a screw nipple or the g l. are connected to one another, the upper section having a liquid cooling device with a flow channel and a return channel.
Electrodes of this type, as are known for example from DE-AS 27 39 483, have the advantage over conventional carbon electrodes that only the tip of the electrode can be used up and must be replaced. In contrast, the remaining electrode part, namely the liquid-cooled electrode holder, can be used over a longer period of time.
Electrodes of this type are subjected to considerable stress when used in an arc furnace, in particular one in which scrap is melted down.
These dangers are particularly exposed to liquid-cooled arc electrodes in which the electrode tip is made of non-consumable material but of liquid-cooled metal. Electrodes of this type have become known, for example, from DE-OS 1 565 208 and US Pat.
It is therefore e.g. in GB-PS 1 223 162 the use of liquid-cooled metal shafts with a consumable part has been proposed, the metal shaft being provided with a ceramic protective coating. Such an electrode is also described in BE-PS 867 876, in which the water guide tubes are embedded in a mass of refractory material.
European patent application 79302809.3 describes a likewise ceramic-protected electrode, in which the liquid cooling is central in the metal shaft runs.
AS 27 39 483 also describes an electrode of the type mentioned at the outset, in which the liquid cooling, among other things. ring channels directly on the outer wall ensure that the liquid return is directly adjacent to the outer surface line of the metal shaft, so that the outer wall of the metal shaft simultaneously represents the inner wall of the return channel. Finally, to facilitate maintenance work and checks, it is possible to remove the entire inner part from the outer part of the upper section. To do this, it is necessary to loosen the bolts of an annular flange and to lift out the internal structure after the liquid supply has ended and the cooling system has been emptied. In the event of damage in the area of the upper section, however, the electrode does not yet allow for a quick, relatively simple repair option. Mechanical damage to the upper section or due to a short circuit due to the external ring channels and return lines also leads to water ingress and possibly the associated explosions.
The invention has for its object to provide a safe working, maintenance-friendly and less prone to failure electrode. In particular, it should be easy to assemble or disassemble for inspection. In the event of mechanical damage to the electrode, the cooling liquid should be prevented from escaping and rapid, simple repairs should be possible while minimizing downtimes.
This object is achieved by an electrode of the type mentioned at the outset, which is characterized in that an inner part and an outer part of the upper section are designed to be detachable from one another in such a way that the inner part contains the liquid guiding chamber with flow and return channels, and the outer Part of the inner part may only be covered in a partial section.
The outer part represents the connection electrode and can consist of the same metal or metal alloy as the inner part. Cooling bores or the like can be made in the outer part. Furthermore, it is also possible to drill holes in the outer part, e.g. for guiding and storing insulating protective layers underneath.
In a preferred embodiment of the electrode according to the invention, the inner part is encased by the outer part only in a partial area, so that the metal shaft as a whole can be formed from an upper area of larger diameter and a lower area of smaller diameter. With such an electrode, the inner part can be caused by a high temperature be resistant insulating layer which, for example, advantageously adjoins the outer part downwards and extends up to the vicinity of the screw nipple or the like or beyond to a generally small partial coverage of the consumable part. The high-temperature-resistant insulating layer can consist of ceramic material, but also of graphite coated with ceramic material. With particular advantage, the insulating layer can consist of a solid molded part, for example a coated graphite single tube or a series of sub-segments, which can hold themselves independently in a counter bearing, for example according to the tongue and groove system, and are movable in the direction of the electrode axis.
In the preferred embodiment of the electrode, in which the inner part is encased in an upper part region, in particular in the region of the side power supply, it is generally not necessary to additionally coat the outer part with a ceramic, insulating coating. However, this will depend on the respective dimensioning of the height of the outer part in relation to the inner part and can be determined accordingly depending on the use and purpose of the electrode.
The inner part of the electrode is led into the nipple connection with which the
upper section of metal and the consumable lower section are connected. The liquid cooling device of the inner part, which runs axially in the latter, is advantageously inserted into the screw nipple itself, since this is more special, depending on the material used May be exposed to heat.
The connection between the inner and outer part can be done in several ways. The connecting line is usually parallel to the electrode axis. For example, the detachable connection can be made by means of a thread or by correspondingly fitting the parts. It is particularly preferred when the inner part is constructed as a adapter piece in conical or cone shape!, 'Wherein the outer and inner member optionally can additionally comprise a thread in a partial area.
Connection jaws, e.g. be attached via pockets or holders with which the power supply for the electrode is connected. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, pockets are fastened to the outer part, in which graphite plates or segments are introduced for power supply.
A number of advantages are achieved by designing the electrode according to the invention. By forming the upper area into a larger and a smaller diameter section, the high-temperature-resistant, insulating protective layer can be connected in a particularly compact and expedient form, it not being necessary, for example, for the outer part if this is in the area of the power supply is limited to provide additional insulation.
