Description

The present invention relates to a protection device in particular for motorcyclists.

We know that there is currently no appropriate protection for motorcyclists, apart from the helmet, the protective function of which is limited to the head, and the padding pads which are provided with certain clothing for motorcyclists, particularly at the joints (elbows). , knees) and whose protective function is insufficient. Fully inflatable clothing is also known, which however has the disadvantage of causing the user to rebound on the ground in the event of a fall, which introduces an additional risk of injury (US-A-4,059,852). However, statistics show that most motorcycle accidents lead to serious or even permanent damage to the spine which is not protected.

Ce but est atteint par le dispositif objet de la revendication 1.Consequently, the aim of this invention is to remedy this shortcoming by providing a protection device, in particular for motorcyclists, more particularly intended to protect the user's spine, including the cervical vertebrae, and where appropriate the kidneys. This object is achieved by the device which is the subject of claim 1.

The protective device according to the invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating schematically and by way of example two particular embodiments.
  • Figure 1 is a plan view of a first embodiment of the device according to the invention.
  • Figures 2A and 2B are sectional views along line AA of Figure 1, respectively in the normal position and in the inflated position.
  • FIGS. 3A and 3B are respectively front and back views of the device according to FIG. 1 carried by a motorcyclist like a harness.
  • FIG. 4 is a view of a second embodiment of the device according to the invention in the form of protective clothing, in particular for a motorcyclist.

Referring firstly to Figures 1, 2A and 2B, the device according to the invention illustrated has three elements connected to each other, respectively a belt 1, a spine protector element 2 and a protector element neck 3, the belt 1 and the neck protection element 3 being each arranged perpendicular to one of the ends of the column carrier element 2. The three above elements can be, as illustrated in FIG. 1, d '' a single piece, or be made separately and provided with means to assemble them appropriately.

As illustrated in FIGS. 2A and 2B, the three elements preferably consist of two superposed layers of leather or of a synthetic material having similar properties, the inner layer 4 being thin and flexible and the outer layer 5 being thicker and more rigid.

Between the two aforementioned layers is arranged an air chamber 6, for example of rubber or of an elastic plastic material, generally surrounded by a sheath 7 for example of an elastic textile material. The internal faces of the two superimposed layers 4, 5 can be provided, on each side of the air chamber 6, with a fastening strip 8 of the "Velcro" type making it possible to maintain the deflated layers in normal deflated position (FIG. 2A) one against the other.

As regards the dimensions of the device illustrated in Figure 1, it should be noted that the length of the column protection element 2 depends on the size of the user and must be provided to go from the neck of the latter up 'to the kidneys, so up to the space provided for the belt. The width of the inner tube 6 is generally about fifteen centimeters at least in terms of the portions presented by the belt 1 and the column protection element 2 and slightly less in terms of the portion presented the neck protection element 3.

The belt 1 has, near one of its ends, a pocket 9 containing a cartridge 10 of compressed gas, for example air, carbon dioxide or any gaseous mixture suitable for being easily stored in the compressed state and being quickly relaxed when necessary. This cartridge is removably connected to an introduction nozzle provided in the air chamber 6 by means of a fixing device 11 of a type known per se such as a screw thread, bayonet, clip, etc. device. The cartridge 10 is further provided with automatic triggering means, for example comprising a cup 12 controlling the opening of said cartridge 10, this pin 12 being connected to a control wire 13, the use of which will be explained later.

Finally, the belt 1 is provided at its ends with closure means 14 of any type known per se.

Pour assurer un bon maintien du dispositif en position sur le corps du motocyliste, les sangles 15 peuvent être reliées devant à la ceinture 1 (figure 3A) et derrière à l'élément protège-colonne 2 (figure 3B) par d'autres sangles respectivement 16 et 16'.As illustrated in FIGS. 3A and 3B, the protection device according to the invention as described with reference to FIG. 1 is intended to be fixed for example on a motorcyclist in the manner of a harness. Thus, it comprises two straps 15 fixed near the ends of the neck protection element 3 and forming two loops passing under the armpits of the motorcyclist. To ensure good retention of the device in position on the body of the rider, the straps 15 can be connected in front of the belt 1 (Figure 3A) and behind the column protector 2 (Figure 3B) by other straps respectively 16 and 16 '.

Thus, the column protection element 2 is arranged along the spine of the motorcyclist and the neck protection element 3 on the neck of the latter, at the limit of the helmet 17, the belt 1 being buckled in the usual way and in such a way that the lower portion of the inner tube 6 is positioned at the level of the kidneys of the motorcyclist and that the cartridge 10 of compressed gas is located in the ventral region thereof. Finally, it is preferable that the neck protection element 3 has extensions 18 (FIG. 3A) arranged laterally and returning under the jaw of the user to protect it.

According to a second embodiment illustrated in Figure 4, the protective device according to the invention can be incorporated or removably attached to a garment.

More particularly, the protective device can be fixed, by sewing it, when making a garment 19 such as jacket, jacket or jumpsuit, between the inner lining and the skin or the outer fabric. According to a variant, the protective device may include means such as buttons, pressures, clips, or strips of the "Velcro" type enabling it to be fixed in a removable manner to corresponding means which are provided inside the garment 19.

The protective belt 1 of the device can also be used to close the garment itself. As for the neck protector 3, it is preferably incorporated into the neck 20 of the garment 19 so that it can be raised on the neck of the user when the air chamber which it comprises is in the inflated position.

Once the protective device according to the invention is sufficiently firmly fixed for example on a motorcyclist, either by means of the straps provided for this purpose or by the closure of the protective clothing, so that it does not risk being moved by the motions of the motorcyclist, then he is in the normal service position. When taking a seat on his motorcycle, the motorcyclist must then fix the free end of the control wire 13, connected to the pin 12 for triggering the cartridge 10 of compressed gas to a fixed member of the motorcycle, said free end being for this provided with a hook or any other element capable of being fixed on the motorcycle.

In the event of an accident or fall, the ejection of the motorcyclist relative to his motorcycle causes the tear-off of the pin 12, the latter remaining connected to the motorcycle by the control wire 13, and triggers the introduction of the gas contained in the cartridge 10 in the air chamber 6 immediately causing it to inflate. The motorcyclist is thus protected by the presence of air cushions placed along his spine, on his neck and if necessary on his kidneys. As illustrated in FIG. 2B, the outer layer 5 of the device is relatively thick and rigid, which further reinforces the protective role of the latter in the event of impact or crushing, the inner layer 4 flexible and fine adapting to it the morphology of the motorcyclist.

Of course, other variants not illustrated of the two embodiments of the protection device according to the invention described by way of examples with reference to the attached drawing are possible. For example, the inflatable sealed enclosure of the device can be constituted by several completely independent air chambers each provided with its own inflation means with automatic triggering or by several air chambers connected to each other and inflatable from a device single inflation with automatic release.

The location and shape of the compressed gas cartridge (s) as well as the number thereof, are not limited. Likewise, the means for automatically triggering the opening of the compressed gas cartridge for instantaneous inflation of the air chamber (s) may be different from those described above by way of example. There are in fact systems for controlling the discharge of a cartridge of compressed gas reacting for example to a sudden deceleration or to a shock and which can possibly be used here.

According to another variant not illustrated, the neck protection element can be combined with an additional element which, by inflation, rises behind the head of the user to the top thereof or which takes the form of a kind of helmet.

Finally, in the case of the protective clothing according to the invention, it can also be provided with other waterproof enclosures provided with inflation means with automatic triggering, for example at the joints (knees, elbows).

The device according to the invention thus constitutes protection, for example for the motorcyclist that he had not hitherto had at his disposal. This simple and relatively inexpensive device makes it possible to significantly reduce the risk of serious damage or even permanent handicap to organs such as the spine, cervical vertebrae and, where appropriate, the kidneys, in particular in the event of a fall or motorcycle accident.

Of course, the device or the coating according to the invention may be intended for the protection not only of motorcyclists, but also of drivers and passengers of sidecars, and of all persons practicing a sport or any other motorized activity or not exhibiting risks of accidents that can lead to injuries to the spine, kidneys and / or neck.
