Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method according to the preamble of the main claim.
Large containers on board ships that are used for the transport of liquid or gaseous petroleum products or that hold chemical products, and large containers on land for storing such products require an inspection and re-coating of their surfaces from time to time. These are constantly exposed to the aggressive liquids and gases of the products as well as the salty sea air. In particular, the treatment of the inner surfaces of such large containers is time-consuming and costly. So far, it has been common to build a rack when working inside a large container, the individual elements of which have to be introduced through the few narrow accesses, so-called manholes.
After setting up the scaffolding and before starting the blasting and painting work with the materials available so far, additional ventilation openings had to be burned out of the container wall for the very high air conversion and the required air drying. These openings had to be closed again after the work was completed. After the inner surface treatment, the scaffold was back through Remove manholes.
The object of the invention is to provide a method for applying a protective coating on the inner surfaces of large containers, with which a much faster implementation of the coating is possible while avoiding the aforementioned disadvantages.
This object is achieved by the method steps specified in the characterizing part of the main claim. Developments of the invention are specified in the subclaim.
The method according to the invention has the particular advantage that considerable cost savings can be ascertained and that corrosion protection measures can also be carried out which have not previously been carried out for cost reasons alone. A coating material such as that which is protected in DE-PS 24 12 453 is particularly suitable for coating the blasted inner surface.
The process for the corrosion protection coating of the inner surfaces of large containers is carried out in the following manner.
If the working procedure is to be carried out on a tanker with several tank sections, it makes sense to fill several of these sections with fresh or sea water at the same time. Attention must be paid to the trim position of the ship. The tank section must be filled to such an extent that the ceiling and part of the upper side surfaces remain free. An inflatable boat is placed on the water through the open manhole, inflated and manned by the crew. Then the individual parts of an assembled and floatable raft are inserted through the manhole and assembled by the crew in the water. For this it is useful to use parts that are easy to assemble. Once the raft has been put together, the crew can switch to it. The crew then receives the blasting units necessary for the pre-treatment of the surfaces through the manhole. After the pretreatment of the water-free surfaces, the primer can be started with a moisture-curing coating material. The top layer can then be applied immediately. At the end of the working section in the upper part of the tank section it is drained until another working section is cleared of water. Here too, the coating work is carried out immediately after the blasting treatment. These steps continue until the tank bottom is also free of water. The work raft is disassembled and removed from the manhole by rubber dinghy. The tank bottom is cleaned and coated and the crew is pulled out of the manhole using a winch. As the work progresses in the tank sections that were initially flooded and gradually drained, further tank sections are flooded in the same way. The coating work can progress quickly in this way. It will not be necessary to set up complex racks in one tank section, to remove them after the work has been completed and to reassemble them in another tank section. With the help of this simplified process, protective measures can now be carried out on the inner surfaces of tanks that were previously not carried out for economic reasons.
Due to the moisture-containing air and the water in the tank during the cleaning and coating work, the dust and solvent components contained in the water-free tank space are quickly reduced, so that additional ventilation openings are not necessary.
A prerequisite for such a working method is a coating material that hardens even at higher atmospheric humidity. In addition to the paint already mentioned and protected in DE-PS 24 12 453, other commercially available and suitable coating materials can also be used. The same work steps described above can also be carried out when it comes to examining the inside surfaces of large containers for the condition of the anti-corrosion layer or only to carry out cleaning work. In this case, too, considerable cost savings can be achieved.
In the same way as described above for tank sections on tankers, the inner surfaces of storage tanks on land that are used to hold petroleum or chemical products can be treated. A further cost saving is possible if the water filling of a tank is pumped into another tank to be inspected or treated as the work progresses.
