Description

The invention relates to a device for the wet treatment of photographic substrates, in particular sheet films, with horizontally traversed treatment chambers, each with an upper and a lower boundary wall, on the inlet and outlet sides of which a pair of transport rollers is arranged and into which a line for treatment liquid opens.

In known devices of the type mentioned at the outset, the treatment chambers are generally designed as pressure chambers into which the treatment liquid is introduced through small openings with a high flow rate. However, there is a risk that the liquid build-up between the boundary surfaces will collapse with only slight deviations in the pumping power, so that the layer support is only unevenly loaded with liquid.

In order to avoid this, a device has also become known (P 27 31 045), in which the treatment chamber is divided by means of partition walls into a main chamber and two secondary chambers receiving the pairs of transport rollers, and the partition walls have shaped pieces which cooperate with the pairs of transport rollers to seal the main chamber. A liquid bath is thus formed in the main chamber, the level of which is above the layer support level. However, such a device has proven to be complicated in construction. In addition, due to the fact that the treatment liquid is fed in from the bottom, there is a different liquid flow with respect to the two substrate surfaces, which can result in uneven development results, particularly in the case of X-ray films.

The object of the invention is therefore to develop a device at the outset in such a way that a better development result can be achieved with a simpler structure.

This object is achieved by the invention described in the characterizing part of claim 1.

The invention achieves a construction of the treatment chamber that is simple in terms of production engineering and can be implemented as a plastic injection-molded part, with both sides of the layer carrier being uniformly wetted by the favorable liquid supply. For larger processing widths of more than 400 mm width, a chamber made of V4A stainless steel is of course also possible, which ensures high dimensional stability. Due to the simple elements of the chamber structure and the lateral liquid supply, the treatment chamber itself can have a relatively small volume have, so that the receiving volume of a receiving container supplying the treatment chamber can be less than 1.25 liters. This means that a circulation pump with lower output can also be used.

Further details and advantages of the invention emerge from the subclaims in connection with the description of exemplary embodiments, which are explained in detail with reference to figures. Show it:
  • 1 shows a cross section through a treatment station according to the invention. and
  • Fig. 2 shows a cross section through a further embodiment of the invention.

In Fig. 1, 1 denotes a container in which support walls 2 and 2 'are inserted. In the figure is substantially arranged with respect to one side to the film running direction, lies in the figure in the background T rägerwand 2 shown, whereas from the other on the side arranged, 'only a section is shown in the foreground support wall 2 lying. Between the opposite carrier walls 2 and 2 ', a first pair of transport rollers 3 and 4 is mounted on the entry side of the treatment station and a second pair of transport rollers 5 and 6 on the exit side of the station. Between the upper rollers 3 and 5 of the two pairs of rollers an upper boundary wall 7 is arranged, which is also attached between the carrier walls 2 and 2 '. The upper boundary wall has an inclination to the film run direction 8 on. This oblique course of the upper boundary wall has the sense that any air introduced into the chamber can escape in a simple manner, so that the risk of oxidation, particularly in the developer bath, is largely avoided.

In addition, a lower boundary wall 9 is arranged between the support walls 2 and 2 ', which has an approximately undulating cross-sectional shape. More precisely, a narrow elevation 9a is provided on the lower boundary wall behind the pair of inlet rollers 3 and 4, which is followed by a depression 9b which extends essentially over the length of the chamber. The end 9c of the lower boundary wall lying in front of the pair of exit rollers 5 and 6 has an upward tendency and is directed towards the upper part of the lower exit roller 6. With a boundary wall 9 shaped in this way it is achieved that the incoming film is raised by the elevation 9a and passed on essentially horizontally. The recess 9b is intended to prevent the film from dragging along the lower boundary wall. The rising end 9c in turn serves to raise the film leading edge and guide it into the nip of the exit roller pair 5 and 6.

At both ends of the lower boundary wall 9 there are baffle lips 11 and 12 which extend over the entire length of the rollers. The baffle lip 11 directed towards the inlet side touches the lower roller 4 and the baffle lip 12 directed towards the outlet side contacts the lower roller 6. Both lips have an angle of less than 90 ° with respect to the tangent of contact, the inclined baffle lip being aligned in the direction of movement of the respective roller surface 4 or 6.

The end of the treatment chamber is limited by two mold walls 10, of which only one mold wall arranged in front of the support wall 2 is shown in the drawing. These mold walls 10 terminate on the one hand with the upper and lower boundary walls 7 and 9 or the sealing lips 11 and 12. The sides facing the roller pairs have contours which are counter-shaped to the roller surfaces in the region of the roller contact. This means that the edges of the mold walls 10 in this area maintain a distance of approximately 0.5 mm from the roller surfaces and extend almost to the line of contact of the rollers.

With the elements transport roller pairs 3 and 4 and 5 and 6, upper boundary wall 7, lower boundary wall 9 with sealing lips 11 and 12 and the two mold walls 10, an almost sealed treatment chamber 13 is thus formed.

An input opening 14 is formed in the carrier wall 2 and is connected to a pipeline 15 running outside the chamber 13. The pipeline 15 is inserted into a pipe socket 16 attached to the tank bottom 1, which is connected via a line 17 to an outlet opening 18 extending from the tank bottom 1. A circulation pump 19 is provided in line 17.

In operation, the circulation pump 19 now sucks the liquid from the container 1 through the outlet opening 18 and leads it via the line 17, the pipe socket 16 leading through the tank bottom, the pipe 15 to the inlet opening 14 in the carrier wall 2. This first becomes the chamber 13 filled. An outlet opening (not shown) is provided on the opposite carrier wall 2 ', through which the excess treatment liquid can flow back into the container 1. This ensures that due to the very small chamber volume, a relatively high flow velocity is built up transversely to the transport direction 8 of the layer support. The small chamber volume also means that a container volume of 1.25 liters is sufficient, even with a chamber size for substrate widths of 50 or 60 cm. This also has the consequence that the circulation pump 19 need only be of low power.

Damit ergibt sich ebenfalls eine sichere Abdichtung für die Flüssigkeit in der Kammer 13'.2 shows an alternative embodiment, the same parts being provided with the same reference numerals. Instead of the lower boundary wall 9 with its damming lips 11 and 12, three further rollers are provided which touch one another and form the lower boundary. A first roller 20 thereof contacts the lower roller 4 of the pair of inlet rollers and a second roller 21 contacts the lower roller 6 of the pair of outlet rollers. The roller 22 contacting the two rollers is arranged between the rollers 20 and 21. This also results in a secure seal for the liquid in the chamber 13 '.
