Definitions

  • the present invention relates to mobile elongate work platform structures, used for example in the building industry, or for installation and repair work, e.g. in water or electrical services or in erection work with large machines.
  • Prior art apparatuses are known from e.g. FR Patent Specification No. 1,475,904.
  • the apparatus shown in the French specification has a power source and a platform structure with support members in the form of three wires, connected to columns at the four corners of the platform structure.
  • the wires extend from the base of one column along the platform structure and to the tops of the three other columns.
  • the upper wire positions, extending between the platform structure and the tops of the three columns, and the lower wire portions, extending between the platform structure and the base of said one column, are arranged such that the upper wire portions are shortened and the lower wire portions are lengthened by the same length of wire thus bringing about a levelled displacement of the platform structure.
  • the French apparatus is dependent on its own power source and is stationary. Thus, it cannot be used as a mobile working platform which is the object of the present invention.
  • Mobile elongate work platform structures have also been made with a supporting structure incorporating a system of arms, either in the form of a parallelogram or scissors type linkage system.
  • the work platform is movable along a vertical mast or guide means, attached to a base frame.
  • the present invention has the object of providing a very simple and cheap elongate work platform structure, primarily intended for erection, installations and repair work and for being put to use in small building jobs.
  • the invention thus relates to a mobile vertically movable work or load platform structure including a generally horizontal, vertically movable elongate platform which at its first end has a guide means of guiding vertical movement of said first end on a vertical support structure whose lower end is supported on the ground, e.g.
  • the platform being supported by two elongate members, variable as to their lengths, the first elongate member supporting the first end of the work platform and being disposed above the platform between this end and the top of the support structure, while the second support member is disposed between the second end of the platform and an attachment disposed under the lowest position of the platform the elongate support members being so connected with the platform and so operatively associated that, during movement of the platform, the second support member is shortened just as much as the first support member is extended, the platform being thereby displaced parallel to itself upwards, and with the opposite length alteration of the elongate support members the platform is moved downwards.
  • the object of the invention is achieved in a very simple manner in that the platform structure lacks its own power source, the platform has at its second end support means for engagement in use with machine-driven, vertically movable carrier means of a manoeuvrable lifting machine, e.g. the tines of a fork-lift truck, and the lower end of the second elongate support member is fixed to the lifting machine chassis or frame, so that the alterations in length of the second elongate support member are achieved by the machinery for the vertically movable carrier means of the lifting machine.
  • a manoeuvrable lifting machine e.g. the tines of a fork-lift truck
  • the second end support means are formed as tubes or channels, adapted for accomodating the tines of a fork-lift truck and preferably the second end support means have a releasable fastening means for the tines.
  • the second end support means are joined to the elongate platform by means of an articulation comprising a horizontal shaft extending at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the elongate platform or the support members comprise wires, chains or the like elements, the attachment of the second support member being disposed at the lowest part of the guide structure carrying and guiding the tines of the fork-lift truck.
  • the support members comprise wires, chains or the like elements, the first support member extending over a rotatable pulley mounted on the upper part of the support structure on the subsequently downwards to an attachment point on the support whereat preferably a means with variable length, e.g. a turnbuckle, also might be disposed between the end of the first support member and the attachment point for the purpose of varying the length of the first support member between the first end of the platform and the upper part of the support structure.
  • a means with variable length e.g. a turnbuckle
  • the support structure might be carried at its lower end by at least one ground-engaging castor wheel swivelable about a vertical stub shaft.
  • the first support member comprises a first hydraulic cylinder disposed between the first end of the platform and the top of the support structure while the second support member comprises a second hydraulic cylinder disposed between the second end of the elongate platform and the attachment on the lifting machine, the cylinders being so operatively associated via conduits that the cylinder front end spaces and the cylinder back end spaces respectively intercommunicate.
  • adjustment means are arranged for the supply or discharge of hydraulic liquid to or from the conduits of the cylinders for levelling the work platform.
  • the entire work platform structure is designated by the numeral 10 in the figure, while 11 designates a fork-lift truck.
  • the structure comprises an elongate platform 20, a vertical support structure 30 along which the platform 20 is vertically movable, and a lifting or operating means 40 for raising and lowering the platform 20.
  • the platform 20 comprises an elongate girder structure 21, a walkway 22 and a surrounding railing 23, comprising posts and horizontal handrails. At its first end, to the left in the drawing, the platform 20 is supported by a vertical support structure 30, described in more detail below. At its second end, to the right in the drawing, the platform is supported by the tines 12 of the fork-lift truck 11.
  • the tines 12 can be inserted in support means 27, e.g. tubes or channels, and be fastened thereto, e.g. with the aid of through-holes and bolts or clamping means.
  • Support means 27 are arranged for each tine of the fork-lift truck 11 and are joined to a frame structure.
  • Said structure has brackets 26 carrying a shaft 25, which also coacts with brackets 24 on the frame 21 of the platform 20 at its second or right end.
  • the platform 20 and the truck 11 are thus articulated in relation to each other about the shaft 25.
  • the support structure 30, carrying the first or left end of the platform 20, comprises one or more vertical tubes or girders 31, which can slide in guides 28 on the platform 20.
  • the beam or girders 31 are preferably unrotatably connected to the platform 20, but are disposed for movement substantially at right angles to the platform.
  • the support 31 has at its upper end a support structure 32 for a rotatable wire pulley 45, which is part of the operating means 40.
  • At its lower end the support structure 30 is provided with a castor wheel or wheels 33, pivotable about vertical stub shaft 34.
  • a wire is denoted by the numeral 41, one end portion 41' of which is fixed to an attachment 42 on the downward, front end part of the fork-like truck.
  • the wire portion 41' is taken upwards and round a rotatable pulley 43, which is arranged on the shaft 25 or in the vicinity thereof. From the pulley 43, the wire 41 extends along the platform 20 to the first or left end thereof, and to a rotatable pulley 44, which is mounted underneath the platform 20.
  • the wire 41 is taken with a substantially vertical portion 41" over a rotatable pulley 45 mounted on the upper end of the support structure 31 and thereafter downwards outside the platform 20 and outside the support structure 30 to an attachment point 46 on said support.
  • the attachment point 46 is arranged at one end of a turnbuckle 47, the other end of which having an attachment point 48 rigidly connected to the lowest portion of the support structure 30.
  • the platform 20 is moved upwards and downwards by raising or lowering the tines 12 of the fork-like truck 11.
  • the second end of the platform 20 is raised via the frame structure with the parts 25-27, carried by the tines 12 of the fork-lift truck 11.
  • the coacting structure 24 on the platform 20 is also lifted by the intermediary of the shaft 25.
  • the portion 41' of the wire 40 will be extended by the wire 41 under the platform being vertically pulled out of the right or second end of said platform. This movement signifies that a corresponding length of the wire is taken away from the wire portion 41", which thus becomes shorter. It will be noted that the extension of the wire portion 41' corresponds to the shortening of the wire portion 41".
  • the wire 41" runs over a rotatable pulley 45 and down to a turnbuckle 47.
  • This arrangement constitutes a device by means of which the horizontal attitude of the platform 20 can be adjusted. For example, if the first or left end of the platform is lower than the second end, the turnbuckle 47 is rotated so that the attachment point 46 is moved downwards. The wire portion 41" will thus be pulled upwards round the pulley 45 and be shortened, thereby lifting the first or left end of the platform so that the latter can be adjusted to the same height at both ends.
  • the turnbuckle 47 is rotated so that the pulley 44 and thereby the first or left end of the platform 20 is lowered to the desired position.
  • An adjustment of the horizontal attitude of the platform in the way described results, for example, in that the platform 20 can be brought to a horizontal attitude and subsequently be moved upwards and downwards without this attitude being altered even if the substructure is such that the castor wheel or wheels 33 are somewhat lower or higher than their normal position in relation to the wheels of the fork-lift truck 11.
