Description

The invention relates to forceps for handling discs and other flat and thin objects, susceptible to scratches, pollution, contamination, or the repeated handling of which presents certain risks for the fingers.

The handling of phonographic or video discs, photographic plates, printed circuits, silicon plates used for the manufacture of photovoltaic cells, microfiche, sterile objects or, on the contrary contaminated, requires great precautions aiming at reducing, according to the In this case, the risks of damage by scratches or by soiling, pollution or contamination.

Microgroove or video discs, currently offered on the market, have become high-precision products capable of reproducing sounds or images with great fidelity and a minimum of alteration. The quality of this restitution depends, of course, on the integrity and cleanliness of the discs: which obliges users to take great precautions during gripping and handling, in order to avoid scratching by the nails, rings or bracelets and any stain by the fingers, because the scratches and the stains result respectively in "knocks" and "crackles" which disturb the hearing.

In the fields of electronics, photography and printing, it is mainly pollution by the acid substance secreted by the diogts, which we seek to avoid for reasons of corrosion or disruption of subsequent treatments .

In the biological and medical fields, it is the risks of bacteriological and microbial contamination, during handling or analyzes, which must be eliminated. However, the fingers, in particular at the level of the nails, are capable of transmitting this contamination.

In the nuclear field, it is the manipulation of objects contaminated by radioactive particles, during decontamination operations, which exposes the performers to certain risks.

In other fields, it is the repeated handling of very rougher objects such as grinding wheel discs, for example, or abrasive sheets, which causes wear and irritation of the epidermis at the ends of the fingers.

For these manipulations, gloves or tongs, specially designed for these different uses, are already used.

A.1.365.227; belge A.555.159). In particular, disc handling tongs corresponding to the preamble of claim 1 are released (Patents: French A.2.040.678 and A.2.393.653; U.S.A. A.1.365.227; Belgian A.555.159). They are respectively pliers: with curved beaks, which allows the disc to be grasped by its border outside the engraved surface; with flat beaks covered with plastic, which allows the disc to be grasped in the engraved area; with long flat beaks, the end of which is provided with buffers allowing the disc to be grasped by its unetched central part; with flexible beaks, of the tweezer type, allowing the gripping of the disc in the engraved zone.

The curved-nose pliers, which allow the disc to be grasped by its edge outside the engraved surface, require to be used with care, as a little rough handling could cause deformation, or even rupture, of the edge. The one with flat beaks covered with plastic material is fitted with scissor-type arms, which means that pressure has to be maintained with two fingers during the entire manipulation. All of these pliers, with the exception of that of the tweezer type, make it necessary to maintain constant pressure of the hand throughout the duration of the manipulation, including during changes of face, which means that this pressure must be relayed using with the other hand, to avoid a painful rotation of the wrist, when turning.

None of these clamps is equipped with a precise and permanent adjustment of the pressure exerted by the jaws, as a function of the thickness, mass and dimensions of the disc, and has not been designed to facilitate insertion. spouts in the pocket, or to avoid scratching neighboring discs with the back of the spouts. The jaws are not pressed against each other at rest; which promotes the deposition of abrasive dust on their working surface.

The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks. The clamp object of the invention, as characterized in the claims, is mainly distinguished in that the jaws are biased against each other, by an adjustable tension spring; the jaws are interconnected by an articulation distinct from that of the jaw operating arms and serving to limit the penetration between the jaws of the object to be handled; in that it is provided with devices facilitating the insertion of the jaws between the objects and protecting the neighboring objects superimposed or juxtaposed.

The advantages obtained thanks to this invention consist essentially in that the clamping force of the jaws of the clamp is adjustable depending on the nature, thickness and mass of the object to be handled; the turning of the object can be obtained by simple rotation of the arms of the forceps in the palm of the hand; the penetration of the object between the jaws is limited so as to eliminate any risk of pinching it at the joint; the penetration of jaws between juxtaposed objects is facilitated; any risk of scratches on neighboring objects is eliminated; dust cannot be deposited on the internal face of the jaws, during the periods of inactivity, since these are then applied one against the other.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear in the description which follows, of a particular embodiment, given by way of example, illustrated by drawings in which:
  • Figure 1 shows a side view of the clamp, produced in accordance with the present invention.
  • FIG. 2 represents a front view of the pliers equipped with its jaws.

The figures representing a gripper for handling phonographic discs and other flat and thin objects, essentially comprising two arms 1 articulated around the axis 2, subjected to a spacing force produced by a spring 3 with adjustable tension by a nut knurled 8, mounted on a threaded pin 9 secured to one of the arms, extended by the jaws 4 on which the jaws 5 are mounted, connected and articulated together by the fold 6 forming a penetration limiter; the jaws 5 are retained against the internal face of the jaws 4 by a folded edge 10, welded over its entire width, at the level of the articulation fold 6 by the weld beads 11; the jaws each have a tapered part 7, at their end: the arms 1 are connected to the jaws 4 by an openwork 12 devoid of sharp edges, the thickness of which is less than that of the folded edge 10.

In accordance with the present invention, the jaws 4a and 4b, provided with their jaws 5a and 5b, are permanently urged against each other, by the springs 3, mounted between the arms 1a and 1b, so as to exert sufficient force to tighten the object and immobilize it relative to the clamp; when the object is thus held, it can be easily manipulated or turned over by simply moving the clamp or rotating it in the hand. The clamping force of the jaws 4 can be adjusted precisely, as a function of the thickness, the mass and the dimensions of the object, by acting on the knurled nut 8. During the positioning of the clamp on the object, the tapered ends 7a and 7b facilitate the insertion of the jaws into the packaging pouches, between juxtaposed objects or between an object and its support.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, one of the tapered ends 7b is slightly set back, relative to the end 7a of the other jaw, so as to facilitate the presentation of the pliers on the edge of the object to be handled, then inserting it between the jaws. The presence of a penetration limiter 6 separate from the articulation axis 2, allows rapid installation on the object, without any special precautions, since the edge of the object does not risk any deterioration and that neighboring objects are protected from any scratch by the folded edge 10, the thickness of which is determined so as to eliminate any risk of contact with the breakout 12 ensuring the connection between the arms and the jaws. The jaws 5 being produced in a single part, in a flexible material, then brought back one against the other, to form an articulation fold 6, this fold,. although located very in front of the hinge axis 2, is elastic enough to allow sufficient opening of the clamp when a force of approximation is exerted on the arm 1. This design also offers the advantage of allow perfect contact of the jaws against each other, under the action of spring 3: which eliminates any risk of depositing dust or other pollution during periods of non-use. The jaws 5 can be easily placed on the jaws 4, due to the elasticity of the folded edges 10, despite the presence of the weld beads 11, which then oppose any sliding of the jaws 5 relative to the jaws 4 .

The forceps object of the invention can be used in all cases where handling flat and thin objects requires great precautions and especially, when these objects are very sensitive to scratches, pollution or contamination, or when their repeated handling presents certain risks for the fingers. It can be used in the audio-visual, electronics, photography, biology and nuclear fields.

A particularly interesting application exists in the manipulation of phonographic and video discs.
