Claims (8)

1. A machine for applying clasps (7) to the edge of a Jacquard card strip, each clasp (7) having two fixing portions (7b, 7c) intended to be applied to the oppositely disposed surfaces of the card strip (1), the machine comprising a transport device (6) for the stepwise advance of the card strip (1) along a pre-determined path (3) in each case by pre-determined distances, and also, on at least one side of this path (3) a clasp applicator head (5) with a clasp magazine (8), means (9) for withdrawing individual clasps (7) from this magazine (8) and means (20) for pressing the two fixing portions (7b, 7c) of a clasp against the oppositely disposed surfaces of the card strip (1), characterised in that the clasp applicator head (5) has clamping elements (12, 15) which are movable in respect of each other in order to grip one of the fixing portions (7b) of a clasp (7) withdrawn from the magazine (8) and having the form of a flat stamped part, and includes a bending element (18) which is adapted for reciprocating movement in order to bend the other fixing portion (7c) of the gripped clasp over through more than 90° before the clasp is exposed to the action of the pressing means (20).
2. A machine according to Claim 1, characterised in that the pressing means (20) comprise at least one member (25) for engaging into an aperture (7f) with inwardly projecting corners in a first (7c) of the two fixing portions (7b, 7c) of each clasp (7) and for bending over the inwardly projecting corners of the aperture (7f).
3. A machine according to Claim 2, characterised in that one of the clamping elements (12) has a member (23) for engaging into a hole (7e) in the second (7b) of the two fixing portions (7b, 7c) of each clasp (7), for the purpose of centring the clasp (7), which hole (7e) is situated opposite the said aperture (7f) after the bending-over and pressing stages.
4. A machine according to one of Claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the means for withdrawing individual clasps (7) from the magazine (8) comprise a reciprocatingly movable transport element (9) which carries the clasp (7) with said one fixing portion (7b) onto a surface of the card strip (1) and in that the clamping elements (12, 15) are disposed for pressing this fixing portion (7b) and the card strip (1) against each other.
5. A machine according to one of Claims 1 to 4, characterised in that on both sides of the path (3) of the card strip (1) there is a clasp applicator head (5) and in that the distance between these heads (5) is adjustable.
6. A clasp for use in the machine according to one of Claims 1 to 5, having two fixing portions (7b, 7c) intended to be applied to the oppositely disposed surfaces of a Jacquard card strip, characterised in that the clasp (7) is in the form of a flat stamped part.
7. A clasp according to Claim 6, characterised in that it has in a first (7c) of the two fixing portions (7b, 7c) at least one aperture (7f) having inwardly projecting corners.
8. A clasp according to Claim 7, characterised in that it has in the other (7b) of the two fixing portions (7b, 7c) at least one hole (7e) which is located opposite the said aperture (7f) after bending of the clasp so that the two fixing portions (7b, 7c) are superimposed.
