Abstract

An envelope comprises an information carrier 17 interposed between a front wall 14 and a rear wall 15 each having a tear-off portion 10, 11 respectively. The envelope can be produced by a continuous process and used for processing in fast printers. To make the envelope 1 easier to produce and the information carrier 17 readily accessible to be removed therefrom when properly opened, the tear lines 12, 13 along which the portions 10, 11 respectively can be removed from the remainder of the front and rear walls do not coincide and only one of said portions 10, 11 comprises a transport strip 16. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to an envelope with a front and a rear wall and an information carrier, the front and rear walls each having a separable area and the separating edges of the front and rear walls adjoining the respective separable area not being congruent.

An envelope of this type is known from US Pat. No. 3,411,699. The front and rear walls each have transport strips that can be separated after processing. From DE-AS 20 24 403 an envelope is known which has a continuous perforation through the front and rear walls, which enables a side edge to be separated along this perforation. The size of the envelope is chosen so that the edge of the information carrier lies within the envelope remaining after the edge has been torn off. In order to remove the information carrier, the edge of the front and rear wall has a cutout and the information carrier has a tab-shaped grip area which protrudes from this cutout. This means that both the front and the rear wall and the information carrier are first subjected to a special processing step before being glued.

The object of the invention is to provide an envelope of the type described at the outset, which can be produced in a simplified manner and in which the information carrier can be easily removed from the envelope after the intended opening.

This object is achieved by an envelope of the type described in the introduction, which according to the invention is characterized in that only one of the walls has at least one transport strip.

  • Fig. 1 eine perspektivische Ansicht eines Umschlages, teilweise aufgerissen;
Further features and advantages of the invention result from the description of exemplary embodiments with reference to the figures. From the figures show:
  • Figure 1 is a perspective view of an envelope, partially torn.
  • 2 shows a section along the line II-II in FIG. 1; and
  • Fig. 3 is an exploded view of the embodiment shown in Figure 1.

The structure of the successive layers is first explained with reference to FIG. 2, the individual layers being drawn apart in FIG. 2 for clarification. The envelope has a front wall 14, the width of which is selected such that it can be guided in a web shape in web processing devices and in particular in an endless collating device with the aid of guide holes 27, 28 provided on both sides. A perforation 12 is provided on one side so that the transport strip 16 having the guide holes can be separated. On the front of the front wall 14, required fields or markings 19 are provided for the address of the envelope. On the back, the front wall is made so opaque by suitable printing that the contents of the envelope cannot be read by unauthorized persons.

The rear wall 15 has no transport strips with guide holes and is chosen to be correspondingly narrower. It is just wide enough that it can be glued in the edge area by means of adhesive lines 29, 30 to the plane above it and between those thus created fixed connection areas enough space for the actual information carrier 17 remains between these adhesive areas.

The information carrier 17 is arranged between the front wall 14 and the rear wall 15. On the side 31 of the envelope which remains closed, the information carrier 17 has no transport strip or this has been separated in such a width before the parts of the envelope are joined together that the information carrier 17 is free with its one edge 32 near the edge formed by the adhesive line 29 is in the envelope. On its opposite side, the information carrier 17 in the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 also has a transport strip with the corresponding guide holes in such a way that the guide holes of the two transport strips of the front wall 14 and information carrier 17 are in alignment. The rear wall 15 is glued to the underside of the outer edge of the information carrier 17 by means of the adhesive line 30. The information carrier 17 has on its top next to the guide holes offset inwards an adhesive line 33, by means of which it is glued to the underside of the front wall 14. Furthermore, the rear wall has adhesive lines 34, 35 at its edges transverse to the web direction, by means of which the front and rear walls are glued to the corresponding sides.

The front and rear walls and the information carrier have perforations 12, 13 and 26 for separating the separable regions 10, 11 which are bonded to one another from the front and rear walls and 25 of the information carrier. These are, as can best be seen from FIGS. 1 and 2, arranged so as to be offset from one another in such a way that after the separable regions which are glued to one another have been separated 10, 25 and 11 of the information carrier 17 with its edge 18 protrudes beyond the separating edge 12 and the rear wall 15 with its separating edge 13 in turn protrudes laterally beyond the edge of the information carrier 17. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the dividing edge 12 of the front wall is thus offset inwards towards the center with respect to the dividing line 26 of the information carrier underneath, and the dividing line 26 of the information carrier is in turn offset inwards with respect to the dividing edge 13 of the rear wall.

In the exemplary embodiment shown, a second information carrier 20 is also provided over the front wall 14 and remains as a processing copy with the sender. It has two transport edges with guide holes that are aligned with the guide holes below. The connection between the second information carrier and the actual envelope takes place by means of simple embossments 23, 24 in the outermost edge region or also by means of simple punctiform gluing. Thereby, the second information carrier according to the final 'Editing is easy separable and remain with the sender, while the remaining actual envelope will be sent with the therein information carrier to a receiver.

To open the envelope at its end opposite the opening side between the thumb and index finger is firmly grasped at the point indicated by the arrows 36, 37, while the detachable area in the region of the arrows 38, 39 is grasped with the other hand. Then it is separated by the separable regions 10, 25 and 11 in the manner shown in FIG. 1, as a result of which the information carrier 17 is visible between the front and the rear wall and is readily available for extraction.

In the embodiment described above, the front wall was chosen to be narrower than the rear wall. Of course, the rear wall could also be the narrower one instead of the front wall. For the invention it is primarily important that one of the two walls of the envelope is narrower than the information carrier and the other wall is wider than the information carrier.

In principle, it is also possible to arrange the dividing lines in such a way that after tearing off the separable regions, one wall of the envelope is narrower than the information carrier, while the other wall has the same width as the information carrier. In this embodiment, however, the information carrier is not as easy to grip as in the embodiment described above.

In the embodiments described above, the information carrier 17 always has a detachable region 25, which serves as a transport strip, for guiding the information carrier. If this is not necessary, this can also be omitted, the width of the information carrier 17 then being selected such that the edge 18 has the same relation to the separating edges 12 and 13 from the front after insertion into the envelope formed from the front and rear walls - And rear wall, as described above.

With the embodiment described above, the need to machine the rear wall 15 is completely eliminated, since it is no longer necessary to provide an incision for pulling out the information carrier. According to the invention, the rear wall is selected from a non-translucent paper, so that printing on the same to prevent the information carrier from showing through is also eliminated. This makes it possible to feed the rear wall as an unprocessed web.

The envelope described above with the information carrier is produced in a customary manner in endlessly working machines, so that a large number of such envelopes with information carriers can be fed as an endless web by appropriate high-speed printers. In the exemplary embodiment described above, the invention was explained on the basis of endless sentences, but the envelopes designed according to the invention can also be used as individual sentences.

A single information carrier is always contained in the envelope in the description of the exemplary embodiments. In the same way, however, a plurality of information carriers can also be provided which, as described above, are connected to the envelope with an edge or can be inserted loosely therein.
