Description

The present invention relates to a rigid splash screen for baths and shower trays.

Splash screens of this kind which are currently known consist of rectangular vertical panels, made of glass or plastic, which extend vertically from the upper edge of a bathtub or shower tray. These panels which are planar are mounted either fixed or even mobile for pivoting or sliding.

Because these flat panels extend vertically from the edge of a bathtub or shower tray, they significantly limit the space available to the user, which results in an unpleasant discomfort as regards. range of motion possible. He may indeed hit his arms, legs or head against the screen in place.

The present invention essentially aims to remedy this drawback by providing a rigid anti-splash screen inexpensive to manufacture, easy to set up and providing increased space for the movements of the user.

For this purpose this rigid splash screen for baths and shower trays, consisting of at least one panel extending vertically from the upper edge of the bath or shower tray, is characterized in that this panel has, on a large part of its surface, a cell projecting outwards extending substantially from the lower edge to the upper edge of the panel.

According to an additional characteristic of the invention, the cell is preferably produced by thermoforming a sheet of plastic material.

The panel presenting the cell projecting outwards can be mounted fixed or even mobile.

Because of its production by thermoforming, the screen according to the invention can be produced in standard elements of large series and at a very reduced cost price.

Various embodiments of the present invention will be described below, by way of non-limiting examples, with reference to the appended drawing in which:
  • Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a rigid splash screen mounted directly above the longitudinal upper edge of a bathtub.
  • Figure 2 is an elevational view of the screen of Figure 1.
  • Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken along line III-III of Figure 1.
  • Figures 4, 5 and 6 are views in vertical section of alternative embodiments of the rigid anti-splash screen according to the invention.
  • Figure 7 is a schematic horizontal sectional view illustrating a hinge device of the screen.
  • Figure 8 is a vertical sectional view of a rigid anti-splash screen mounted directly above an upper edge of a shower tray.
  • Figures 9 to 13 are views in horizontal section of various alternative embodiments of a splash screen for a shower tray.

The anti-splash screen shown in Figures 1 to 3 comprises a vertical rectangular panel 1 which is mounted directly above the longitudinal upper edge 2 of a bathtub 3. This panel 1 can be mounted fixed or alternatively, as well as 'it is shown in the drawing, sliding along the edge 2. For this purpose it is suspended from a horizontal upper cross member 4 under which it can be moved thanks to the provision of suitable rolling or sliding members.

According to the invention the rigid panel 1, which is preferably made of plastic, has, on almost all of its surface, a cell curved outward and which extends substantially from the lower edge to the upper edge of the panel 1.

The provision of this cell allows it to reserve for the user, between the wall 5 and the panel 1, a width a at mid-height of the convex cell la which is clearly greater than the distance b which extends between the wall 5 and the flat marginal zones of the panel 1 which surround the domed central cell la, namely the upper zones lb and lower lc and the two lateral zones ld and le. Therefore the user has, for his movements in the shower, a significantly increased surface area compared to the case where the anti-splash screen consists of a completely flat rigid panel.

In elevation the cell la can have any suitable shape. As it appears! in FIG. 2, its base, that is to say the contour by which it is connected to the plane marginal faces lb, lc, ld, le, may have the shape of a rectangle with rounded angles, of a circle, of a polygon, etc. The cell itself may be formed by a spherical surface in whole or in part, cylindrical or any other form.

The anti-splash screen 1 can be used alone or in conjunction with a plane auxiliary panel 6 hinged to the previous one around a vertical axis 7 so as to be able to be folded down optionally along the line indicated in phantom in FIG. 3.

Figures 4, 5, 6 illustrate, without limitation, various shapes that can take for example the cross section of the cell in a median vertical plane. In the case of the panel 21 shown in Figure 4 the cell 21a has a vertical cross section in the form of an isosceles trapezoid, in other words the face delimiting the cell towards the outside is flat and vertical.

In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 5, the panel 31 includes a dome-shaped cell 31a, the cap of which has been removed and replaced by a domed part 31b with convexity facing inwards.

In the case of the embodiment shown in Figure 6 the panel 41 has a cell 41a delimited by a flat face itself bordered at the top and bottom by ribs 41b and 41c projecting outwards.

The auxiliary panel 6 on which the panel 1 is articulated around a vertical axis 7, is itself pivotally mounted around a vertical axis 8 carried by the wall 5. In this case it is a corner bath and the pivot axis 8 is located at a distance x from the top of the angle which is substantially equal to the width of the panel 1. In the non-use position the auxiliary panel 6 is folded completely flat against the wall 5 and the panel 1 comprising the cell la is applied to the previous one so that the assembly has a very small footprint compared to the wall. In the position of use the auxiliary panel 6 extends transversely above the bath, as indicated in dashes while the panel 1 is located above the longitudinal edge of the bath, the two panels 1 and 6 then forming between them a right angle.

This anti-splash screen 9 is constituted by a panel of thermoformed rigid plastic material having, over most of its surface, a cell 9a curved outwards, like panel 1.

Figures 9 to 13 illustrate various modes of use and mounting of the splash screen.

In FIG. 9, the anti-splash screen 9 is mounted fixed and is perpendicular to a set of two gates 11, 12 hinged together around a vertical axis 13, the gate 12 itself being hinged on the wall around 'a vertical axis 14. These two gates 11, 12 fold over one another and against the wall to give access to the interior of the shower tray. To ensure satisfactory connection with the gate 11, the panel 9 is advantageously provided with a square edge 9b against which the movable gate 11 comes to bear when the assembly is closed.

In the alternative embodiment illustrated in FIG. 10, the panel 9 presenting the thermoformed cell 9a is mounted fixed and at its end is hinged, around a vertical axis 15, a door 16 which can be folded inwards in the direction of the arrow in FIG. 10. This gate 16 extends substantially over half the distance between the fixed panel 9 and the wall and another gate 17, articulated on the wall around a vertical axis 18, ensures closing the other half of this distance.

In the alternative embodiment illustrated in FIG. 11, the anti-splash screen consists of two substantially identical panels 19 and 20 extending from the two walls forming an angle. One of the panels 20 which has a curved cell 20a is mounted fixed while the other panel 19, also having a curved cell 19a, is articulated on the wall around a vertical axis 21. At its movable end it has a angle edge 19b which can be pressed against the flat outer marginal zone 20b of the other fixed panel 20, thus ensuring a good junction between the two panels.

In Figure 12 is shown an alternative embodiment of the anti-splash screen of Figure 11. In this case the panel 19 provided with its flange 19b is fixed while the other panel 20 is mounted movable so as to be able perform a rotational movement causing it to be pressed against the fixed panel 19, as indicated in phantom. This movement can be obtained by planning on the upper edge of the panel 20 two rollers 22, 23 respectively rolling in two slides at right angles so as to guide the panel 20. There is shown in Figure 12, in dashes, an intermediate position that takes the panel 20 during of this movement.

Les deux panneaux 25 et 26 sont articulés sur le mur respectivement autour d'axes verticaux 28 et 29.FIG. 13 represents another alternative embodiment in which the anti-splash screen 24 for a shower tray 10 is constituted by two perpendicular panels 25, 26 on which cells 25a and 26a are respectively formed. The two panels 25 and 26 are connected by overlapping edges 27. The two panels 25 and 26 are articulated on the wall respectively around vertical axes 28 and 29.
