Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a process, for shaping and moving an anchor, for fixing a bundle of fibres in a brush body, and to the charger applying this process, the aforesaid anchor being formed, for instance, by a small rectangular plate which is cut off from a so called anchor wire.
  • anchor wire is being unwound from a spool, the anchor wire being introduced step by step in the charger, whilst in this charger a cutting device is provided for, which successively cuts off from the anchor wire a small rectangular plate or anchor, after which a so called bundle plucker having fed a small bundle of fibres into the charger, this anchor is pushed forward by a so called needle until it contacts the aforesaid small bundle and finally the anchor, with the aforesaid bundle of fibres, is introduced and fixed in a hole of the brush body.
  • the aforesaid introduction of anchor wire and cutting off of the anchor are taking place at a same level, which is the level of the aforesaid needle, resulting in it being necessary to wait for the needle to come back after having fixed a bundle of fibres by means of an anchor in the brush body, before it becomes possible to displace the anchor wire by one step and cut off an anchor.
  • thevobject of the invention is a charger by means of which, in comparison with the known chargers, it is possible appreciably to increase the speed of fixing bundles of fibres in a brush body, which is obtained in that, according to the invention, the dead time, resulting in the case of the known chargers from the fact that it is necessary to wait for the needle to come back before the feeding with wire and the cutting off of an anchor can take place, is precluded.
  • the process according to the invention mainly consists in feeding the anchor wire and cutting off an anchor at a location which is out of the way of the needle of the charger, this being done during the forward motion of the aforesaid needle, and to bring the cut off anchor in the way of the needle directly after the needle in its backward motion has passed the location of the cut off anchor.
  • the feeding of the anchor wire and cutting off of the anchor are carried out at a level which differs from the level at which the needle moves, so that the anchor-wire supply can already start from the moment when the aforesaid needle takes along the preceding anchor in its forward motion towards the brush body, on the one hand, and that always during the forward motion of the needle a following anchor can already be cut off, on the other hand.
  • the charger mainly comprises a part 1 which is fixed in relation to the machine wherein there is fixed a component 2 with a channel or guide 3 for the anchor wire 4, whilst in this part 1, in this case, a slide 5 is provided for, which in a known way can have a reciprocating motion in relation to a brush body which is not shown and in this slide a guide for the needle 6 is provided for.
  • This guide mainly consists of a channel 7 in the die plate 8, with which a punch 9 can cooperate in order to cut off an appropriate anchor from the anchor wire 4.
  • the channel 7, wherein the needle 6 is moved is located at a level which in this case is situated above the level of the channel in the guide 3, into which the anchor wire 4 is being fed.
  • feeding the anchor wire 4 is simply done by pushing same in the guide 3 until it contacts the wall 16, so that the correct position of the anchor wire is obtained, after which the punch 9 is moved upwards, see Figure 5, in order to cut off an anchor 17 from the anchor wire, on the one hand, and to move this anchor 17 upwards, up to the level of the needle 6, on the other hand, see Figure 6.
  • the thickness of the die 8, respectively of the guide wherein the channel 7 for the needle is provided for will be a thickness which is a little.greater than twice the thickness of the anchor wire, respectively twice the thickness of the needle 6, so that there remains a little free play, in order to avoid friction between the needle when moving backwards and the anchor 17 which, at this moment, is already partially lifted.
  • the slide 5 consists of two parts, namely a lower part 5A on which the top part 18 is fixed and a part 5B in which the needle 6 moves.
  • the bundle plucker 14 brings a small bundle of fibres 15 to-the charger.
  • the slide 5B lies in its backward position, in other words against the fixed part 1 of the charger, whereby there remains a maximum distance Al between the adjacent ends of the channels 18 and 7, until the small bundle of fibres is in line with the channels 18 and 7.
  • the small bundle of fibres 15 is supplied to the charger, in other words the small bundle 15 is transferred between the adjacent ends of the channels 18 and 7, the upper slide 5B being moved forwards on a distance Bl, whilst in Figure 10, there is shown the position in which the slide 5B has been moved in relation to the slide 5A so that the aforesaid distance Al has decreased to 0, in other words, the adjacent ends of the guides 7 and 18 are in contact with each other, whilst the distance B2 has become equal to the aforesaid distance Al.
  • both the slides 5A and 5B are moved forwards together, as is the case when the charger is provided with only one slide, for transferring the bundle of fibres 15 by means of the anchor 17 to the brush body and fixing the bundle with the anchor in the brush body, which is possible because of the needle 6 being moved with a greater speed than slide 5B, during the forward motion of slide 5B, and of the forward motion of the needle continuing farther, after the charger has been brought approximately against the brush body, in order to fix the small bundle of fibres in the brush body by means of the anchor.
