- the purpose of repositioning the alignment element of the paper is to allow the passage of said paper around said plate.
- the rotation of the paperweight rod holder arm in a first direction causes the paperweight rod carried by its arm to move away from the plate.
- the cam sprocket has a magnet that actuates another reed switch when the cam sprocket continues to rotate.
- the drive motor is then turned off and the platen is rotated to advance the front edge of the paper past the paper alignment element and the front feed roller to the first print line , in a position adjacent to the paperweight rod.
- the rotation of the plate is stopped and the drive motor is started again, which causes the rotation of the cam pinion.
- the flexible comb is rotated in the other direction to advance the front feed roller towards the paper and cause it to be applied against the platen.
- the paper alignment element returns to its initial position, in contact with said paper.
- the paperweight rod support arm is rotated in the opposite direction to apply the front edge of the sheet against the platen to allow printing of said sheet.

- the paper alignment element 62 is integral with the reference 65 which has a leg 66 oriented downwards which has a contact surface 67 which is biased by the tooth 16 to cause the positioning of the paper alignment element 52 with respect to the printer platen 68.
- the front feed roller 60 is arranged so as to cause the application of the paper 71 against the platen 68. So that the roller 60 is in this position; the comb 20 must have been rotated counterclockwise and the tooth 15 must be in contact with the surface 58. In this position of the tooth 15, the device 50 is kept in the position of FIG. 4 At this instant, the alignment element 62 is in contact with the paper 71 and presses it against the plate 68. After the sheet 71 has been advanced to the first writing line, another sheet 72 can be inserted into the printer from the back of the plate 68.
- the first arc of rotation clockwise allows the front feed roller 60 to move away from the plate 68. That is to say that the pressure exerted by the roller 60 is released. This is due to the fact that the tooth 15 is released from the surface 58.
- the second clockwise arc allows the tooth 15 to come into contact with the surface 59 and causes the device 50 to rotate counterclockwise. In this case, the rear feed roller 61 is driven towards the plate 58 to cause the application of the paper 71 against said plate 68.
- the third arc of clockwise rotation of the comb 20 allows the tooth 16 to come in. contact with the surface 67 of the leg 66 of the reference 65 to separate the alignment element 62 from the plate 68.
- the first arc of counterclockwise rotation of the comb 20 after its third arc of clockwise rotation causes the tooth 16 to separate from the surface 67.
- the alignment element 62 is released or authorized to move towards the plate 68 under the stress of a spring not shown.
- the second counter-clockwise rotation arc of the comb 20 causes the tooth 15 to separate from the surface 59, which allows the roller 61 to be moved away from the plate 58.
- the third anti-clockwise rotation arc -comb of the comb 20 brings the tooth 15 into contact with the surface 58 to apply the front feed roller 60 against the plate 68 and thus cause the contact of the paper 71 and the plate.
- the rear feed roller 61 is removed from the stage 68 and the alignment element 62 is in contact with it. This allows the front edge 73 of the sheet 71 to pass between the roller 61 and the plate 68.
- the front edge 73 is brought into abutment against the element 62 to align the sheet 71.
- the latter must be moved away from the plate 68 to allow a continuous passage for the sheet 71 around the plate 68.
- roller d rear feed 61 must be applied against plate 68 to cause contact between sheet 71 and said plate 68. Then, plate 68 is rotated until the front edge 73 has passed the feed roller before 60 and that the sheet 71 is arranged at the first printing line. After the paper 71 has thus been advanced, the alignment member 62 is pressed against the platen 68 to hold the sheet 71 in position while the rear feed roller 61 is away from the platen 68 and the front roller 60 is applied against it. The application of the front roller 60 against the platen 68 causes the sheet 71 to contact the platen and allows the sheet to be fed during printing.
- the first table A relates to a paper loading operation which begins with the introduction of the paper and ends with the positioning of said paper at the first printing line.
- the second table B relates to an operation for removing the paper from the platen to allow the execution of an adjustment by the operator or the removal of the paper from the printer.
- the initial loading operation begins with the introduction of a sheet of paper 71 into the printer from the rear of the stage 68.
- the alignment element paper 62 must be in contact with the plate 68 and the rear feed roller 61 must be released from the latter.
- the front edge 73 of the sheet 71 is therefore aligned against the alignment element 62.
- the end 33 of the rocking button 31 is momentarily pressed, which causes the switch to close.
- the rotation of the motor 4 drives the comb 20 in a clockwise rotation to apply the rear roller 61 against the plate 68 in order to cause the paper to be tightened 71 against the plate 68.
- the alignment element 62 will be released from the plate 68.
- the rotation of the pinion 8 continues until the magnet 80 embedded in the rear side of the pinion 8 arrives in a position causing the opening of the reed switch 43, which cuts the motor 4 and causes the application of signals to lines 45 to 47 to a motor for rotating the plate 68.
- the plate is rotated on a certain arc by a stepper motor, a servomotor or other similar motor e, until the front edge 73 has advanced sufficiently to allow the printing of the first line on the sheet 71.
- the drive motor of the stage is then stopped and a signal or signals are again applied by lines 45 to 47 to restart engine 4.
- the paperweight rod 74 fixed to the arm 22 has been rotated counterclockwise around the axis 21 to disengage it from the plate 68.
- the motor 4 is started again, when stopping the rotation of the plate 68, the paperweight rod 74 must be engaged against the plate 68 to apply the front part 81 of the sheet 71 to the plate 68.
- Table B describes in detail a paper release operation for which the front 60 and rear 61 feed rollers must be released from the plate 68.
- the positions and states of the elements making up the device of the present invention must be those of the Figures 1 and 2.
- the order of operations is noted in parentheses in the table. It should be noted that when the end 32 of the button 31 is pressed, the motor 4 is started for a predetermined time, then it is switched off. This is due to the application of a signal or signals on lines 45 to 47. This period of operation is determined by logic (not shown) which is not within the scope of the present invention. This is also the case for the logic (not shown) which controls the starting of the plate drive motor on a given arc, then, in sequence, the restarting of the motor 4.

Abstract
The device comprises a rocking button (31), the operation of which by the operator causes the starting of a motor (4) which rotates a cam (10). The rotation of the cam (10) causes the bidirectional rotation of a shaft (14) which drives a control comb (20). The rotation of the comb (20) in a first direction causes the rear roller (61) to move away from the piatine (68), in order to allow the insertion of a sheet of paper and causes the installation of an element paper alignment. The rotation of the comb (20) in the opposite direction, causes the paper to jam between the rear roller (61) and the plate (68). The cam (10) during its rotation also causes the tilting of an arm (22) which ensures the distance and the approximation of the paperweight rod relative to the plate (68).

The state of the art is illustrated by the following "IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletins" publications: Vol. 15, .No. 7, December 1972, page 2311; Flight. 17, No. 5, October 1974, pages 1263 and 1264; Flight. 18, No. 5, October 1975, pages 1305 and 1306 and Vol. 21, No. 2, July 1978, pages 709 and 710. These publications illustrate the general characteristics of the feeding of a sheet of paper, by front and rear rollers cooperating with a cylindrical platen, its alignment, and the operation of the paperweight rod. More particularly, the above publication dated October 1974 describes a device fulfilling the same general functions as those of the device of the present invention, including partial control of the device by a single means.
However, the particular control structure according to the present invention does not bear any resemblances to that described in said publication. In addition, the device which can be controlled by said control structure is different from said publication.
The device of the present invention makes it possible to control the alignment of the paper, its feeding by the rear and front rollers and the opening and closing of the paperweight rod, according to the feeding of said paper on a cylindrical printer platen . The device mainly consists of a rocker button operated by the operator, reed switches, a drive motor, a cam sprocket, a flexible comb and an arm carrying a press rod -paper. When each of these elements is in a position or state allowing the loading of paper into the printer, the sequence of operations to be performed by the operator consists in introducing a sheet of paper into the printer from the rear of the platen and aligning its front edge relative to a paper alignment member. At this instant, the rear feed roller is moved away from the platen to allow the paper to pass to the alignment element, then said alignment element is placed on the path of the front edge of the sheet, finally the paperweight rod is closed and applied against the plate. Then, the momentary pressing of the button rocking in the start position initiates a controlled feeding of the paper around the platen towards a first writing line. When the button is pressed, one of the reed switches is closed and the drive motor is started. The drive motor is connected to the cam gear which causes the flexible comb and the paperweight rod support arm to rotate in a first direction. The rotation of the comb in the first direction causes the movement of the rear feed roller towards the platen and that of the paper alignment element in its position out of the path of said paper. The movement of the rear feed roller towards the platen has the effect of applying the paper against the platen and allowing the feeding of said paper when said platen is rotated. The purpose of repositioning the alignment element of the paper is to allow the passage of said paper around said plate. The rotation of the paperweight rod holder arm in a first direction causes the paperweight rod carried by its arm to move away from the plate.
The cam sprocket has a magnet that actuates another reed switch when the cam sprocket continues to rotate. The drive motor is then turned off and the platen is rotated to advance the front edge of the paper past the paper alignment element and the front feed roller to the first print line , in a position adjacent to the paperweight rod. After this advancement of the paper, the rotation of the plate is stopped and the drive motor is started again, which causes the rotation of the cam pinion. During this rotation of the cam gear, the flexible comb is rotated in the other direction to advance the front feed roller towards the paper and cause it to be applied against the platen. In addition, the paper alignment element returns to its initial position, in contact with said paper. Following this sequence of operations, the paperweight rod support arm is rotated in the opposite direction to apply the front edge of the sheet against the platen to allow printing of said sheet.

The control device according to the present invention is formed of a modular unit 1 (Figure 1) and a flexible comb 20 (Figure 2). Unit 1 is mounted at one end of the chassis 2 of a printer by means of a support 3 which also carries a
An
An
The support 3 also carries a
We will now refer to Figures 2 and 8. We see that the
For the description of the operation of the device, reference will now be made to Figures 3, 4 and 8. During the actual printing operations, the
There are three possible arcs of rotation of the
The first arc of counterclockwise rotation of the
Before the initial loading of a sheet of
By consulting table A, it will be assumed that the elements making up the device of the present invention are in their position or state in FIGS. 3 and 4 when an initial loading operation has to be carried out. Each case sequence is numbered in order using numbers in parentheses. The initial loading operation begins with the introduction of a sheet of
Although the essential characteristics of the invention applied to a preferred embodiment of the invention have been described in the foregoing and represented in the drawings, it is obvious that a person skilled in the art can provide all of them. modifications of form or detail which he judges useful, without departing from the scope of said invention.
