Definitions

  • the present invention relates to closure devices for flasks, bottles and other receptacles with a threaded neck, and, more particularly, a closure element of the so-called "capsule" type constituted by an internally threaded cylindrical cap intended to be screwed onto the corresponding thread of the neck of the bottle, said cap being secured and sometimes made in one piece with an envelope or an external cover giving the capsule an aesthetic appearance.
  • a closure element of the so-called "capsule" type constituted by an internally threaded cylindrical cap intended to be screwed onto the corresponding thread of the neck of the bottle, said cap being secured and sometimes made in one piece with an envelope or an external cover giving the capsule an aesthetic appearance.
  • the end-of-travel blocking position of the inner cap is very often slightly offset as a result of the wear of the threads or the packing of the sealing elements and there is no more therefore obtains the correct orientation of the closure element relative to the body of the bottle.
  • a device has also been proposed in which a snap-fit engagement of the hubcap is used on the body of the bottle in the vicinity of the end-of-stroke locking position of the cap.
  • the hubcap and the threaded cap are integral with each other, the peripheral edge of the hubcap forming a projecting lip and the upper surface of the bottle surrounding the neck carrying at its periphery a surface of support forming a groove in which the lip of the peripheral edge of the hubcap must fit so as to align the sections.
  • the relative longitudinal movement ensuring the interlocking of the lip and of the groove must be carried out during a very limited angle rotation corresponding to a fraction of about an eighth of a turn of the plugging element which must therefore have a very fast pitch thread.
  • the wall of the bottle between the nesting groove and the threaded neck must be elastically deformable since the upper surface of this wall is already in contact with the edge of the lip of the hubcap while the latter still needs to be, under the effect of the cap screwing down from the height of the socket. It follows that the bottle must be made of flexible plastic, which prohibits glass bottles or other rigid material as usually used in luxury perfumery.
  • the applicant has already proposed closure elements, the hubcap of which is, in the closure position, always oriented correctly relative to the body of the bottle.
  • the hubcap includes an interlocking with the body of the bottle, an interlocking which corresponds to a correct angular orientation of the hubcap, this interlocking being effected by an elastic stress exerted between the cap and the hubcap and s' working on the hubcap in the direction of screwing the cap.
  • the object of the present invention is to solve the problem by using a conventional "capsule" type closure element comprising only a radial stop capable of cooperating with a radial stop secured to the body of the bottle, for example radial stops resulting from a snap-fastening. by interlocking, in combination with a snap-on biasing device for the closure element and for the body of the bottle, which may be adaptable to bottles of any shape.
  • the snap-on biasing device for the plugging member and the body of the bottle consists of a part carrying the thread of the neck and elastically biased in the direction screwing the cap with means limiting the rotation of said part relative to the body of the bottle.
  • the part carrying the thread of the neck is constituted by an externally threaded sleeve slidably mounted on a neck base secured to the body of the bottle with relative longitudinal guide between the two parts securing them to rotation and elastic element acting between the neck base and the sleeve to urge the latter towards the body of the bottle.
  • the radial stop integral with the body of the bottle can be carried by the surface of the body of the bottle with which the edge of the skirt of the hubcap comes into contact, the radial stop integral with the cap being carried by this skirt or a surface of the hubcap next to this skirt.
  • the radial stop integral with the body of the bottle can also be carried by the end face of the neck base or a part which is integral with rotation, the radial stop integral with the cap being located inside the threaded cap integral with the hubcap.
  • the elastic element may be constituted by a compression spring acting between the neck base or a ring which is integral with it and the threaded sleeve or an internal flange which is integral with it. Because the stroke of the relative movement is limited to the depth of the fitting which is reduced and to the fraction of the step corresponding to the angle of symmetry of the plug or angle whose plug must be rotated to bring its section into coincidence with the section of the bottle, the stroke of the elastic element is reduced and it can be produced by an elastic washer acting between the two elements.
  • the sleeve comprises an internal element secured to the neck base and an external threaded element, the two elements being joined by a thin veil which is elastically deformable.
  • the internal element can be forcibly engaged on a straight neck of the type with peripheral ring or be screwed on a threaded stud.
  • the reference 1 designates a bottle or similar container shown only partially and the reference 2 designates as a whole a cap of the so-called capsule type which includes an embellishment 3 and an internally threaded cap 4 which can be secured in any known manner but are shown in the drawings as molded in one piece.
  • the stopper 2 In the bottles which the invention relates to, the stopper 2 must, at the end of the screwing stroke of the cap 4, come to occupy a position having a defined orientation relative to the bottle 1 either so that there is coincidence between the sections of the bottle and of the plug, or for any other reason. This can be reflected, as illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 5, by an interlocking, by the edge 5 of the hubcap 3, of a projection 6 provided on the peripheral surface of the bottle around the neck. If the edge 5 has in plan a substantially rectangular shape, as shown in Figure 2, oval or more generally any other non-circular shape, the fitting can only be done by a sudden longitudinal movement of the hubcap at the time of coincidence while the longitudinal movement provided by the screwing of the cap on the neck is a progressive movement.
  • the neck of the bottle is replaced by a mouthpiece of generally cylindrical neck 8 but comprising radial ribs 9 at least near its base.
  • the threaded element 7 consists of a sleeve which has near its base an internal flange 10 which has on its internal edge notches capable of sliding on the ribs 9. As a result the threaded element 7 can slide in the axial direction but cannot rotate relative to the neck end .
  • the device is completed by a compression spring 11 which is housed between the threaded element and the neck end piece, which bears against the upper surface of the internal flange 10 and the other end of which is integral with the end piece neck 8 either by a turn engaged elastically in a groove 12 of the end piece (FIG.
  • this precision may be insufficient if we base our solely on an interlocking of the edge 5 of the hubcap and of a projection 6 on the glassware bottle in due to the tolerances of the glassware, or may provide a radial stop 18 as illustrated in FIG. 2, radial stop which occurs between a part of the peripheral profile of the projection 6 and the edge of an element 19 secured to the stopper.
  • radial stop 18 as illustrated in FIG. 2, radial stop which occurs between a part of the peripheral profile of the projection 6 and the edge of an element 19 secured to the stopper.
  • One can also use for the same purpose other types of coincidence devices such as that with triangular teeth which will be described below with reference to FIG. 6.
  • the threaded element 5 is made of a flexible material, for example polypropylene or molded polyethylene, and it is molded in one piece with a sleeve 20 which can force fit on the neck 21, provided with a peripheral ring 22, of the bottle 1.
  • the threaded element 7 and the sleeve 20 are joined by a web 23 which can deform elastically to allow relative axial displacement between the two elements substantially equal to the depth of the fitting between the edge 5 and the projecting part 6.
  • FIG. 6 illustrates a similar embodiment, but the sleeve 20 'is tapped to be screwed onto the threaded neck 21' of the bottle.
  • the web 23 ′ is frustoconical and it deforms at radial elongation to ensure the elastic return of the plug.
  • the orientation of the stopper relative to the bottle is ensured by the engagement of triangular longitudinal teeth 24 carried by an internal skirt 25 of the stopper in notches 26 of the same shape made in the end surface of the neck 21 '. In the drawing there are three teeth 24 and three notches 26 spaced 120 ° apart. This ensures orientation relative to the bottle of a stopper with three axes of symmetry, for example of a triangular, hexagonal, three-lobed stopper or the like.
