Definitions
- the present invention relates to insulated sleeves intended to join together metallic conductors or electric cables of the same or different nature and more particularly an insulated waterproof connection made of water proof by teeth, deformations or crimps.
- junctions have been carried out either by connectors composed of a tubular metal body for the junction and insulated, after deformation by teeth or crimping, using insulating tapes or insulating sleeves. heat-shrinkable or not, either by connectors composed of an insulated metal body but whose relative tightness was ensured by greases located inside the sleeves.
- One of the objects of the invention is to provide an electrical connector for joining metal wires or cables, insulated and sealed, making it possible to join together conductors of the same or different nature.
- the invention relates to a sealed device for connecting insulated electrical conductors allowing ensuring, in addition to the electrical junction, the dielectric continuity of the insulated conductors comprising a conductive sleeve of a single piece of malleable material comprising a cavity intended to receive a stripped part of the conductor as well as an insulated part of said conductor, and a insulating sleeve surrounding the conductive sleeve characterized in that it comprises an insulating sealing device placed inside said cavity, at each end of the conductive sleeve, between the conductive insulator and the conductive sleeve, which is compressed on the insulator of the conductor by crimping or the like of the conductive sleeve.
- connection device comprises a tubular sleeve 1 of malleable conductive metal surrounded by an insulating sleeve 2.
- the conductive sleeve 1 has a partition 4 which serves as a stopper for perfectly positioning the conductor inside sleeve 1.
- the insulating sleeve 2 extends beyond the ends of the body 1 so as to trap an insulating joint 3 at the ends of the body 1 by shrinking 5 of the insulating sleeve; this narrowing 5 is achieved by deformation of the insulating sleeve and is limited to the diameter of the conductor insulator.
- the insulating sleeve in its narrowed part 6 covers over a certain length the insulating conductor 7. This shrinkage 5 can be obtained by using for example a shrinkable plastic.
- FIG. 1 represents the conductor 7, before crimping, in position in the metal sleeve 1, with its stripped portion 8 surrounded by grease 9 ensuring sealing and better contact
- the connector also includes a metal sleeve 1 enveloped by an insulating sleeve 2 at the ends of which is fixed a tube 11 which penetrates inside the conductive sleeve in a bore 10.
- the tube 11 has an outside diameter substantially equal to the inside diameter of the end bore 10 of the conductive sleeve so as to be able to penetrate inside the latter.
- the tube 11 can be made of the same material as the insulating sleeve 2, for example it can be constituted by a sheath of small thickness made of heat-shrinkable PVC.
- the conductive sleeve can be made for example from copper, aluminum, or an alloy of one of these metals.
- FIG. 11 shows the tube 11 after crimping the conductive sleeve on the conductors.
- a sealing crimp at 12 simultaneously crushes the insulating sleeve 2, the conductive sleeve 1 and the insulating tube 11 on the insulator 7 of the conductor thus ensuring the tightness of the connection device.
- the other crimps made on the middle part of the insulated sleeve, at 13 for example ensuring both the maintenance of the conductors in the sleeve and good contact between the conductive sleeve and the stripped conductors 8.
- FIG. 4 represents a variant in which the end tube has two parts 14 and 15, the part 14 having an outside diameter which fits the end bore 10 of the conductive sleeve 1 and the part 15 a diameter equal to outer diameter of the conductive sleeve 1.
- the part 14 of the tube 11 is introduced into the bore 10 of the conductive sleeve 1, the part 15 remaining outside the conductive sleeve.
- the tube 11 is either glued or force-fitted into the bore 10 of the insulating sleeve 1.
- the sealing crimp 12 is produced at the part 14 so as to compress the conductive sleeve and the tube 13 on the insulator 7 of the conductor.
- FIG. 5 gives another variant of the end tube 16 comprising an inner tube 11 and an outer flap 17 folded over the end of the insulating sleeve 2 and the conductive sleeve 1.
- the sealing crimp 12 is also produced so as to compress the insulating sleeve 2, the conductive sleeve 1 and the tube 11 on the insulator of the conductor.
- the tube 16 is glued, welded or forced into the end bore 10 of the conductive sleeve.
- the flap 17 is glued, welded or force-fitted onto the insulating sleeve 2.
- the insulating sleeve 2 for the various embodiments is made of an insulating material having the property on the one hand of being deformed to trap the metallic sleeve and on the other hand of mechanically resisting the forces developed r for the formation of teeth or crimps or deformations without that these forces produce harmful effects on said insulating material, it is possible, for example, to use a polyamide sleeve known under the trade name "nylon” or polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
- the insulating sleeve is tightened on the conductive sleeve so as to prevent any longitudinal displacement between the insulating sleeve and the conductive sleeve.
- An advantage of the invention is that the conductor placed inside the sleeve before crimping, maintains itself in the sleeve, which frees the hands for the crimping operation.
- FIG. 6 represents a variant in which the end tube 18 has a knockout wall 19 which ensures, after introduction of the conductor into the sleeve, a pressure on the insulation of the conductor and therefore the conductor is held in the sleeve which releases hands for the crimping operation.
- the part 19 may include an opening 20 which facilitates its deformation when the conductor is introduced into the sleeve.
- the left part of FIG. 6 represents the sleeve before introduction of the cables and the right part of FIG. The sleeve after introduction of the cable.
- the connecting device comprises a conductive sleeve 1 of generally tubular shape of malleable material having a partition 4 which serves as a stop for positioning the conductor inside the sleeve 1, an internal cavity 21 intended to receive a stripped part 8 of the conductor surrounded by grease 9 ensuring sealing and better contact, and an external part 22 intended to receive an insulated part 7 of the conductor.
- the conductive sleeve 1 is surrounded by an insulating sleeve 2 whose ends 23 are folded back inside the cavity 22 intended to receive the insulated part of the conductor.
- the insulating sleeve 2 completely envelops the conductive sleeve 1 by penetrating into the cavity 22 and compresses the insulated part 7 of the conductor, thus ensuring a good seal after the conductor has been placed in the sleeve.
- the conductive sleeve and the insulating sleeve are preferably assembled by overmolding in one piece. This results in a reduction in manufacturing costs and a better seal.
- the insulating sleeve and the conductive sleeve are made of the same material as in the other figures, for example, the conductive sleeve is made of copper, aluminum or alloy; the insulating sleeve in one piece is made of a material which can deform and is mechanically resistant to the pressure forces developed during the crimping operation, for example polyamide or heat-shrinkable PVC.
- the insulating sleeve can be glued or welded to the conductive sleeve or fixed by elasticity of the insulating material.

Abstract
Description
- Fournir un connecteur à usage électrique ou mécanique qui puisse recevoir une denture, déformation ou sertissage sur un câble électrique tout en assurant une connexion complètement isolée ;
- Fournir une connexion électrique et mécanique isolée qui soit étanche quant elle relie des conducteurs isolés de nature différente ou de même nature ;
