Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a covering element for roofs and walls of houses in the form of a quadrangular panel simulating, on the upper facing face, rows perpendicular to each other of several nested tiles of traditional shape, this element having , on the one hand, two parallel lateral grooves open on the side of the face of the element opposite to said facing face, extending all along the lateral edges of the panel and having a bottom which projects in relation to the face facing so as to simulate interlocking of the tiles and, on the other hand, a spreading rib along the longitudinal edge of the panel and projecting with respect to the facing face, as well as a flange extending along from the lower edge of the panel and intended to cover the rib with a second identical covering element situated immediately below the first covering element.
  • French patent No. 1,021,617 discloses a covering element for roofing consisting of a panel representing a single tile different from a terracotta tile, framed laterally by two semi-cylindrical strips or longitudinal grooves and two ribs. reinforcement bordering the transverse sides of the panel. These covering elements or tiles are placed on tubular joists or rafters and fixed to these by fastening means. The tiles according to said French patent are supported at the spacing between each tile by tubular rafters themselves fixed on horizontal slats, such a horizontal slat being provided for each row of tiles.
  • the battens are horizontal slats on which are hung and / or fixed tiles or covering plates. These battens are, generally, of wood and have a small cross section, so that they themselves must be supported by rafters, that is to say pieces of frames which, in general, extend perpendicular to the top or ridge of the roof.
  • the present invention relates to a covering element of the type described in the first paragraph of this specification which, unlike the covering elements according to French patents Nos. 1,021,617 and 1,424,215, requires no batting for its installation. or horizontal slat and is fixed directly on classic rafters of quadrangular section.
  • the covering element according to the present invention has lateral grooves of quadrangular section so that it can, in a very simple and economical manner, be fitted and fixed directly to rafters of a frame of the traditional type without interposition of battens or slats.
  • the aforementioned lateral grooves of the element according to the invention are shaped so as to bear only in inclined parts, simulating the thickness of the tiles, from their bottom to the rafters, while these grooves have internal lateral faces intended to be longitudinally in contact with the lateral faces of the rafters when these grooves are fitted onto them.
  • the present invention also relates to a roof or a wall carrying a frame comprising rafters extending perpendicularly to the ridge or top of the roof or wall and covering elements in the form of quadrangular panels simulating, on the upper facing face of the roof or wall, rows perpendicular to each other of several nested tiles of traditional shape, each covering element having, on the one hand, two parallel lateral grooves open on the side of the face of the element opposite to the face of facing, extending all along the lateral edges of the panel and having a bottom which projects relative to the facing face, so as to simulate the interlocking of the tiles and, on the other hand, a rib extending along from the upper edge of the panel and projecting from the facing face, as well as a flange extending along the lower edge of the panel and intended to receive the rib of a second e identical element located immediately below the first.
  • the lateral grooves of the covering elements have a quadrangular section and are fitted and fixed directly on rafters of corresponding section of the frame, without interposition of battens or slats.
  • facing face and “internal face” of the covering element or panel or of the roof denote the face visible from the outside, as opposed to the face facing the frame or the rafters.
  • the covering element shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 consists of a thin sheet 1 which may be made of plastic, such as polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, acrylic resin, polyester, etc., of metal, for example in sheet steel, possibly galvanized, in aluminum, etc., in bituminous cardboard or asbestos-cement.
  • plastic such as polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, acrylic resin, polyester, etc.
  • metal for example in sheet steel, possibly galvanized, in aluminum, etc., in bituminous cardboard or asbestos-cement.
  • the sheet 1 can optionally be reinforced with mineral, animal or synthetic fibers, such as glass or plastic fibers.
  • the "internal face" of the element is the opposite face to the visible external face 2 of the element, when the latter is placed on a roof or a wall.
  • the "upper edge” of the element is the edge thereof which is closest to the top or ridge of the roof or wall, when the element is in place on this roof or this wall.
  • the "forward" direction of an element is that which goes from its upper edge to its opposite edge. that is to say towards the edge of the element which is further from the summit or ridge in question, when the element is in place.
  • an element "adjacent" to an element considered is an element located above, below or on one or the other of the sides, that is to say an element which partially overlaps the element considered. in a roof or wall or gable cladding.
  • Figures 1 and 2 show that, in the illustrative embodiment of the invention shown in the drawings, the covering element has along its upper edge 3 a marginal rib 4 which is intended to make the element rigid.
  • the presence of this rib which can be opened towards the internal face 5 of the element in FIG. 2 allows the removal of the slats commonly used in roofs and thus constitutes an important advantage of the covering element according to the invention, since this removal makes the laying of the roof or cladding much faster than in the conventional tile laying process.
  • the rib 4 has a front face 6 inclined towards the front of the element, to facilitate the flow of rainwater.
  • the marginal rib 4 which serves to stiffen or stiffen the covering element 1 can have any other suitable shape, for example that of a solid projecting rib with a flat upper surface (like that shown in FIG. 1) or convex.
  • a rib it is also possible to use a bead projecting from the external face known as facing 2 of the upper edge of the covering element.
  • the reinforcing or stiffening rib 4 can extend at any point of the element, parallel to its upper edge 3 , provided that the presence of this rib gives the covering element sufficient rigidity or stiffness to make the use of slats unnecessary.
  • the marginal reinforcement rib 4 may have a flange 7 connected to the vertical branch 8 of said rib, the other branch 6 is inclined forward.
  • FIG. 2 shows that the reinforcing rib 4 has a section in the shape of a rectangular trapezoid, but it could have a section in the shape of a regular trapezoid.
  • the covering element 1 has an inclined rim 9, the inclination of this rim 9 being similar to that of the part 6 of the reinforcing rib 4, so that the rim 9 can overlap said inclined portion 6 when two covering elements are juxtaposed on a dihedral-shaped roof in a direction perpendicular to the ridge of this roof.
  • the covering element also has along its two opposite edges 10 which are substantially perpendicular to the marginal reinforcement rib 4, a lateral groove 11 1 open towards the internal face of the element and intended to fit on a rafter 12.
  • a lateral groove 11 1 open towards the internal face of the element and intended to fit on a rafter 12.
  • the branches 13 and 14 can have any height as long as they match the shape of the upper face 15 and , at least in part, that of the lateral faces 16 and 17 of the rafters 12.
  • Figure 1 reveals that the grooves 11 have, in the vicinity of the marginal reinforcing rib 4, a width somewhat greater than that of their opposite end 18. In fact, it can be made that the grooves 11 go somewhat in s widening from their lower end 18 to their upper end 19, so that an interlocking in these grooves 11 is possible when it is necessary to juxtapose two reinforcing elements 1 in a direction parallel to the ridge of a roof classic dihedral shape (as shown in figure 1
  • the covering element 1 according to the invention can be provided, for example, in the vicinity of the upper 19 and lower 18 ends of the lateral interlocking grooves 11, of holes 20 which can be cylindrical or conical, intended for fixing members such as nails 21. It is obvious that other means of fixing the covering elements 1 to the rafters 12 can be provided, for example staples, pins or clips.
  • the covering element is provided with a central rib 22 and inclined parts 23, the latter also serving as reinforcements, so that the element has a shape similar to that of four tiles. 24.
  • This central rib is not essential and could be non-existent.
  • the covering element for roofs or walls can have a shape and dimensions such that it represents a number of tiles greater than four or less than four. In other words, this element may have a width or a length greater or less than the width or the length of the element shown by way of example in the drawings.
  • the reinforcing ribs 4 and the interlocking grooves 11 may possibly protrude on the internal face of the sheet rather than on its external face 2 or visible, when the covering element is in place on a roof.
