Abstract

1. A coupling between an upright (1) and a transverse element (2), particularly of a scaffold, in which the transverse element (2) is provided at its end with a pin (4) extending under an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the transverse element (2), said pin engaging hookwise with an eye (3) provided at the side of the upright (1), the free end portion of the pin (4) projecting beyond the eye (3) having a substantially vertical slot (8), in which is provided a wedge-shaped pawl (9) which is pivotable around a pivot axis (10) between an inoperative position in which it does not hinder entering of removing respectively of the pin (4), and an operative blocking position in which it projects from the side of the slot (8), characterized in that the pin (4), the eye (3) and the pawl (9) have such relative dimensions that in the inoperative position of the pawl (9) a lever-shaped end thereof projects below the free end portion of the pin (4), while in the operative blocking position the end of the pawl (9) remote from the lever-shaped end cooperates as a cam surface with the adjacent lower edge (3') of the eye (3) and with progressive rotation of the lever-shaped end in the direction towards the upright (1) causes increased clamping of both parts.

Description

The invention relates to a coupling between a stand and a cross element, in particular a scaffold, the cross element being provided at its end with a pin which extends at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the cross element and which is hook-like in an eyelet provided on the side of the stand engages from which pin the free end portion protruding from the eyelet is provided with a slot for receiving a securing wedge.

Such a coupling is known from French patent 1,093,342. In this known coupling, the slot present in the pin extends in a plane which is directed transversely to the longitudinal axis of the cross element, while the securing wedge is designed as a loose part which is brought into the slot and struck after being inserted into the eye of the pin becomes. The formation of the safety wedge as a separate part has the disadvantage of being easily lost. Another disadvantage of this coupling is connected with the fact that the securing wedge passes from the side, that is to say transversely with respect to the plane the longitudinal axes of the stand and the cross member must be attached. The securing wedge is thus in an effective position in a position in which it is easily accessible for forces which are exerted accidentally or unauthorized, under the influence of which the securing wedge would loosen.

According to the invention, these concerns are solved in a simple and expedient manner in that the slot extends in a direction that falls in or almost in the plane through the longitudinal axis of the cross element, while the wedge is arranged in the slot and can be rotated about a transverse axis between an ineffective position, in which it only protrudes axially from the end of the pin, and an effective position, in which it protrudes from the side of the slot and, with its longitudinal end facing the cross element, cooperates as a wedge surface with the opposite end edge surface of the eyelet.

In the coupling according to the invention, after the pin has been inserted into the eyelet, the securing wedge can be brought into the effective securing position in a simple manner, in that the end section of the wedge protruding from the eyelet is struck in the direction of the stand, as a result of which the opposite end on the side out of the wedge and into engagement with the relevant front edge surface of the eyelet. Both the struck end portion of the wedge protruding axially outside the pin end and the effective wedge end thereof are then in a position in which the securing wedge is better protected against unintentional loosening.

  • Fig. 1 eine Seitenansicht der erfindungsgemässen Kupplung, wobei die Oese und der in derselben greifende Stift in Achsialschnitt dargestellt sind;
  • Fig. 3 einen Schnitt nach der Linie III-III in Fig. 1.
The invention is explained below with reference to the drawing with an embodiment. Show it:
  • F ig. 1 shows a side view of the coupling according to the invention, the eye and the pin engaging in the same being shown in axial section;
  • Fig. 2 shows a section along the line 11-11 in Fig. 1 and
  • 3 shows a section along the line III-III in FIG. 1st

In the drawing, 1 denotes the stand, which preferably consists of a metal tube, while 2 denotes a cross element to be connected to it, preferably also consisting of a tube of the same type. The stand 1 and the cross member 2 form parts of a scaffolding, for example.

To bring about the connection between the stand 1 and the cross element 2, the stand 1 is provided with a protruding eyelet 3 on the side thereof, while the cross element 2 is provided at the relevant end with a pin 4, with the aid of which the cross element is hook-like in the eyelet 3 can intervene.

In the exemplary embodiment shown, the eyelet 3 forms part of a group of four such eyelets, which together form a shaped piece 5 that can be pushed onto the stand tube in the axial direction and with the aid of means not shown in the drawing, for example clamping screws, can be fixed. The eyelets 3 of the shaped piece 5 can each receive a pin of a cross element to be connected to the stand 1.

The pin 3 forms part of a hook-shaped insert 6, which can be inserted with a cylindrical section 7 into the relevant end of the tube of the cross element 2 and can be fixed in this by suitable clamping means.

Dieser Sicherungskeil ragt an seinem von der Oese 3 abgekehrten spitz zulaufenden Ende in achsialer » Richtung ausserhalb des Stiftes 4 aus und fällt in seiner unwirksamen, in der Zeichnung mit Strichlinien angegebenen Lage mit seinen Längskanten ganz innerhalb der Seitenbegrenzungen des Stiftes 4.The pin has a slot 8 which is formed by an axial incision, which incision lies in a plane through the axis of the cross element 2 to be connected. In this slot, a locking wedge 9 is rotatably mounted about a hinge pin 10. This safety wedge protrudes at its pointed end facing away from the eyelet 3 in the axial »direction outside the pin 4 and falls in its ineffective position, indicated by dashed lines in the drawing, with its longitudinal edges entirely within the side boundaries of the pin 4.

On the side facing the stand 1, a stop is formed in the slot 8, which limits the freedom of pivoting of the securing wedge 9 in such a way that when the pin 4 is inserted into the eyelet 3, the securing wedge 9 cannot assume an obstructing position, but during this inserting it automatically into its ineffective position (indicated by dashed lines in the drawing). This stop is formed by two cross pins 11 in the illustrated embodiment. After inserting the pin 4 into the eyelet 3, the securing wedge 9 is brought out of its ineffective position indicated by broken lines by exerting a force in the direction of the arrow P into its effective position indicated by solid lines. The broad end of the securing wedge 9, which has a gradually increasing radius with respect to the axis of rotation 10, acts like a wedge surface with the lower end edge 3 1 of the eyelet 3 and the pin 4 is tightened downwards into the eyelet 3.

The release of the securing wedge and thus the coupling between the cross element 2 and the stand 1 can be brought about by exerting a force in the direction of the arrow Q.
