Abstract
The aim of the invention is to improve a preheating device for preheating scrap intended for transfer to a metallurgical furnace. To this end the invention provides for a precombustion chamber (4) which is situated at the level of the upper section (8) of the combustion chamber and has at least one first closeable opening (23) leading to the upper section of the combustion chamber and at least one other, second closeable opening (22) for introducing a batch of cold scrap by means of feeding means (5). Each batch can be fully or partly received by the precombustion chamber (4). The invention also provides for means for the controlled modification of the gas, pressure and/or temperature conditions in the precombustion chamber. The openings in said precombustion chamber can be actuated in the manner of a sluice.
