IN ORDER TO IMPROVE A DEVICE FOR THE PREHEATING OF SCRAP THAT IS SUBSEQUENTLY FED TO A METALLURGICAL FURNACE, A PRECHAMBER (4) THAT IS ARRANGED AT THE TOP COMPARTMENT (8) OF THE CHAMBER (5) IS PROPOSED WITH AT LEAST ONE FIRST CLOSABLE OPENING (23) TO THE TOP CHAMBER COMPARTMENT AS WELL AS WITH AT LEAST ONE FURTHER SECOND CLOSABLE OPENING (22) FOR THE INPUT OF A CHARGE OF COLD SCRAP USING THE FEEDING MEANS (5), THE PRECHAMBER (4) BEING ABLE TO TAKE UP EACH CHARGE EITHER FULLY OR PARTIALLY, AS WELL AS WITH MEANS FOR THE CONTROLLED CHANGE OF THE GAS, PRESSURE AND/OR TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS IN THE PRECHAMBER, THE OPENINGS OF THE PRECHAMBER BEING WORKABLE AS A SLUICE.@@@@FIGURE .1
