Abstract
Description

This invention relates to the technology of polyamides, in particular, to light and heat-resistant polyamide based on caprolactam, its production method and the product containing it.
It is known that polyamide without additives under the influence of light and heat becomes colorless and loses its physical properties, such as maintaining strength and resistance to elongation. Therefore, in order for nylon to have acceptable characteristics, in some cases, it is necessary to add light and / or heat stabilizers to it. Stabilizers can be added before, during or after polymerization. Conventional stabilizers are mixed with the polymer, but do not bind to the polymer chain; therefore, when processing or using polyamide, stabilizers can easily migrate from the polymer, evaporate or leach out. This means that the stabilization efficiency undesirably decreases, and impurities are released into the environment (for example, into the air, into the dye bath, etc.).
Various organic stabilizers are known for nylon and its products. The problem, however, is that organic stabilizers, such as, for example, sterically hindered phenols, are expensive and have limited effectiveness.
Inorganic stabilizers are usually less expensive and more effective than organic stabilizers; however, inorganic stabilizers cause other difficulties. As a rule, conventional inorganic stabilizers, such as, for example, copper compounds, cause difficulties in processing. For example, in a melt extrusion process, copper compounds can be reduced to insoluble elemental copper. The formation of elemental copper reduces production efficiency and significantly increases operating costs. In addition, the removal of copper deposits leads to environmentally hazardous waste. In other processes, such as, for example, the treatment of nylon fiber used for the automotive industry with copper complexes in the dye bath, an excess of copper complexes in solution also gives environmentally harmful waste.
International application PCT / EP95 / 01349 describes a polyamide stabilized by its very nature, containing at least one triacetonediamine having a primary amino group (-ΝΗ 2 ), which in the process of polymerization reacts with the terminal carboxyl group of the polyamide molecule, thus giving the polymer light and heat resistance.
In a review in Rome. Ed. Apr. 81b. 21, 251-262 (1988) describes the improvement of the light resistance of polyamide 6/6 with the help of the addition of 2,2,6,6 tetramethylpiperidin-4-ol (TMP). When re-condensing TMP-containing polyamide 6/6 in a copper melt at 275 ° C and in an atmosphere of water vapor, according to the authors, TMP reacts with the terminal carboxyl groups of the polyamide.
A method of obtaining light and heat resistant polyamide by polymerization of one or more monomers in the presence of an effective amount of at least one sterically hindered piperidine of the general formula in which K.1 denotes the functional group forming the amine or amide, K 2 is alkyl, and K 3 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl groups containing 1–3 carbon atoms and —OK four where K four are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, alkyl groups containing 1-7 carbon atoms (see the application AO 97/05189, C08O 69/48, 13.02.1997).
The objective of the invention is to develop light and heat-resistant polyamide based on caprolactam, which reduces the need for copper-based stabilizers and, in particular, to obtain a product with a reduced tendency to yellowing.
The problem is solved in the method of obtaining light and heat-resistant polyamide by polymerization of caprolactam in the presence of an effective amount of at least one spatially obstructed piperidine of the general formula
in which Κι denotes the functional group forming the amine or amide, K 2 is alkyl, and K 3 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl groups containing 1–3 carbon atoms and —OK four where K four selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, alkyl groups containing 1-7 carbon atoms, which consists in the fact that the polymerization is carried out in the presence of an effective amount of at least one chain growth regulator selected from aliphatic dicarboxylic acid taken from a group consisting of malic acid; malonic acid; methylmalonic acid; ethylmalonic acid; butylmalonic acid; dimethylmalonic acid; succinic acid; methylenic acid; 2,2-dimethylsuccinic acid; 2,3-dimethylsuccinic acid; 2-ethyl-2-methyl acidic acid; glutaric acid; 2,2dimethylglutaric acid; 2,3-dimethylglutaric acid; 2,4-dimethylglutaric acid; adipic acid; 3-methyladipic acid; azelaic acid; pimelic acid; sebacic acid; decanedicarboxylic acid; dodecanedicarboxylic acid and mixtures thereof.
At least one sterically hindered piperidine is preferably selected from the group consisting of 4-amino-
2.2.6.6- tetramethylpiperidine; 4- (aminoalkyl) tetramethylpiperidine; 4- (aminoaryl) -tetramethylpiperidine; 4- (aminoaryl / alkyl) -tetramethylpiperidine; 3-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine; 3 - (aminoalkyl) -tetramethylpiperidine; 3- (aminoaryl) -tetramethylpiperidine; 3 (aminoaryl / alkyl) -tetramethylpiperidine;
2.2.6.6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinecarboxylic acid; 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidine alkyl carboxylic acid; 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4piperidinarylcarboxylic acid; 2,2,6,6 tetramethyl-4-piperidine alkyl / arylcarboxylic acid; 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3-piperidinecarboxylic acid; 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3-piperidine alkylcarboxylic acid; 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3-piperidinarylcarboxylic acid;
2.2.6.6-tetramethyl-3,4-piperidine alkyl / arylcarboxylic acid and mixtures thereof.
At least one chain growth regulator is preferably selected from the group consisting of adipic acid; azelaic acid; decanedicarboxylic acid; sebacic acid and mixtures thereof.
Another object of this invention is a light and heat resistant polyamide, in particular, with a reduced tendency to yellowing, containing a main polymer chain based on caprolactam, at least one spatially obstructed piperidine residue of the above general formula, chemically bound to the main polymer chain, and , at least one aliphatic dicarboxylic acid as a chain growth regulator, chemically linked to the main polymer chain, with at least one chain growth regulator in branes from the group consisting of malic acid; malonic acid; methylmalonic acid; ethylmalonic acid; butylmalonic acid; dimethylmalonic acid; succinic acid; methylenic acid; 2,2-dimethylsuccinic acid; 2,3-dimethylsuccinic acid; 2-ethyl-2-methyl acidic acid; glutaric acid; 2,2-dimethylglutaric acid; 2,3-dimethylglutaric acid; 2,4-dimethylglutaric acid; adipic acid; 3-methyladipic acid; azelaic acid; pimelic acid; sebacic acid; decanedicarboxylic acid; dodecanedicarboxylic acid and mixtures thereof.
FIG. 1 shows the percentage preservation of the strength of the solution-dyed filaments after testing with a weatherometer.
FIG. 2 is a graph illustrating the yellowing of the polymer plates after testing with a weatherometer.
The polymerization process by which the polyamide according to this invention is prepared is preferably carried out by conventional methods, such as, for example, described in US Pat. the amount of one or more aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, regulating the growth of the chain. An effective amount of at least one spatially obstructed piperidine is an amount sufficient in combination with one or more aliphatic dicarboxylic acid that regulates chain growth, to impart light and heat resistance to the resulting polyamide. Preferably, the effective amount of one or more spatial-obstructed piperidines is in the range of about 0.030-0.800, and more preferably, in the range of about 0.060-0.400 mol%, based on the weight of the polyamide-forming monomers. An effective amount of at least one aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, regulating chain growth, is an amount sufficient, in combination with one or more spatially obstructed piperidine, to impart light and heat resistance to the resulting polyamide. Preferably, the effective amount of one or more chain regulating aliphatic dicarboxylic acid is in the range of about 0.001-0.800, and more preferably, about 0.050-0.500 mol% based on the weight of the monomers forming the polyamide.
To obtain the polyamide of the present invention, one or more spatial-obstructed piperidine and one or more chain growth regulating aliphatic dicarboxylic acid are added to the initial caprolactam or to the polymerizing reaction mixture. That is, one or more spatially obstructed piperidine, one or more aliphatic dicarboxylic acid chain regulator, and caprolactam can be introduced into the reactor, where the polymerization is carried out, individually or as a mixture.
A spatially obstructed piperidine may also be a mixture of spatially obstructed piperidines. A more preferred spatially obstructed piperidine is 2,2,6,6-tetraalkylpiperidine. The most preferred spatial obstructed piperidine is 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine.
The most preferred chain regulating aliphatic dicarboxylic acid is adipic acid.
The light and heat resistant polyamide according to the invention may also contain various standard non-stabilizing additives. These additives include, for example, lubricants, nucleating agents, antioxidants, antistatic agents, etc.
Due to the light and heat resistance, in particular the reduced tendency to yellowing, the polyamide according to the invention does not need to contain other stabilizers as additives, such as, for example, copper compounds, although other stabilizers, if desired, may be present. If other stabilizers are present, they are contained in much smaller quantities. The exclusion of such stabilizing additives reduces operating costs and eliminates the harmful wastes generated during the removal of precipitated stabilizers.
The polyamide according to the invention also has an increased spinning ability. The ability to spin is increased by at least about 0.5%. Such an increase in spinning ability translates into a reduction in annual production costs of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not wanting to associate itself with any theory, it is now believed that the increased spinning ability is associated with the fact that the modified polyamide according to this invention has a more narrow molecular weight distribution than polyamides, the regulators of which are acetic acid and propionic acid. For polymers with a relative viscosity of 2.7, the molecular weight distribution of the modified polyamide according to this invention is about 1.65-1.80, and the molecular weight distribution of the polyamides obtained with acetic and propionic acid as regulators is about 1.90-2, 00
An additional object of this invention is a product containing light and heat resistant polyamide according to the invention. This product can be fibers, threads, carpets and structural plastics, for example, in the form of car parts, etc. Fiber can be obtained by recycling light-resistant polyamides according to the present invention by any standard method, which is described, for example, in US Pat. Nos. 4,883,448 and 5,487,860. awns receiving device, at least about 4000 m / min. Structural plastics can be obtained by recycling the light and heat resistant polyamides of this invention using any standard method that is described, for example, in US Pat. No. 5,474,853. The fibers obtained from the light and heat resistant polyamides of this invention can be dyed with conventional dyes used to paint nylon. , for example, such as metal-containing and non-metal-containing dyes. Conventional nylon dyeing in a dye bath can be used. The following general conditions are given as an example and are not restrictive. A dye bath is prepared so that its volume is about 20 times the weight of the products to be painted. Reagents are added to carry out the process, including a chelating agent for precipitating or complexing metal ions in hard water, a color equalizer, and, in the case of metal-containing acid dyes, an acid donor for slowly lowering the pH of the dyebath. Add a dye and adjust the pH of the dye bath. The solution is heated to a predetermined temperature, usually about 95-110 ° C, at a rate of about 0.5-3 ° C per minute and kept at this temperature for about 30-60 minutes. The dyebath is cooled and set free, and the items are thoroughly washed in clean water. Painted products are dried in a drum dryer or in a drying cabinet, such as, for example, a Tenter drying cabinet.
Alternatively, the fiber of the light and heat resistant polyamides of the present invention can be dyed in solution before it is made from the product. You can apply the usual conditions for dyeing nylon in solution. The following general conditions are given as an example and are not restrictive. The polyamide according to this invention is melted and stained with a dye selected from the group consisting of pigments, dyes, any coloring compounds with properties intermediate between pigments and dyes, and their combinations. The dyed polyamide is then spun into yarns or made into fabrics using conventional standard methods, which are described, for example, in U.S. Pat. Nos. 4,983,448, 5,487,860 and 4,918,947. . The mixture to be loaded into the extruder is a physical mixture, not a mixture in the melt.
The invention is further described by the following detailed examples. Examples are given for illustration and do not limit the scope of the invention. In these examples, ADC refers to adipic acid, PIC refers to propionic acid, TPA refers to terephthalic acid, and TAI refers to 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine. Also used in the examples, the following terms and test conditions mean:
Weight percent Content in weight percent of this component in the download.
Relative Viscosity (OM).
The relative viscosity is the ratio of the viscosity of the polymer solution in formic acid to the viscosity of the formic acid itself (AZTM 789). The test results presented in this description were obtained using 0.20 g of nylon 6 dissolved in 20 ml of formic acid at 25 ° C.
The content of end groups.
The content of terminal amino groups is determined by dissolving about 2.0 g of polymer in approximately 60 ml of a mixture of phenol-methanol (68:32). This solution is titrated with approximately 0.20 normal HC1 at approximately 25 ° C using a potentiometric method, and the end point of the titration is determined by a sharp increase in potential.
The content of terminal carboxyl groups is determined by dissolving about 0.30 g of polymer in approximately 40 ml of benzyl alcohol at 180 ° C. The solution is titrated with approximately 0.03 normal tert-butylammonium hydroxide at about 80-100 ° C using the potentiometric method, and the end point of the titration is determined by a sharp increase in potential.
Determination of weather resistance.
This definition is carried out in order to simulate the effects of extreme atmospheric conditions created by sunlight, heat and humidity on the interior of the car, and in order to predict the characteristics of the interior materials of the car. In this test, the degree of yellowing (delta b * value) of each of the exhibited samples is determined. This test is carried out in accordance with the test method OM OLCE L885, entitled Accelerated exposure of car interior trim parts using a water-cooled xenon-arc lamp with an adjustable surface density of the radiation flux.
Preservation of strength.
This test is designed to determine the preservation of the strength of the control and experimental samples. The term "preservation of strength" refers to the change in the tensile strength of a material under the action of solar or artificial light on a material. Tensile strength is a measure of fiber strength. This test is carried out in accordance with the test method AATSS 16-1993, Color resistance to light, option E (water-cooled xenon arc lamp, continuous illumination). The materials are exposed at 2125 kJ, and the tensile strength of each material is determined before exposure and after each increase in energy by 425 kJ. Preservation of strength in percent is determined as follows:
Tensile strength after exposure x 100% / Tensile strength after exposure

The polymerization reactor is a stainless steel VK column described in US Pat. No. 4,354,020, used herein for reference. The mixture, with stirring, is continuously introduced into the upper part of the VC column in the reaction zone 1 at a temperature of about 265 ° C and at a rate of about 30-40 kg / h. The column VK with a capacity of 340 l is heated using an oil heat exchanger. At the same time, 4-amino-2,2,6,6 tetramethylpiperidine flows continuously into the reaction zone 1 in a separate stream at such a rate that 0.15% by weight of 4-amino-

The relative viscosity of the dried product is 2.68, the content of terminal amino groups is 42 meq / kg, and the content of terminal carboxyl groups is 63 meq / kg.
Example 7. Spinning dyed in a solution filament yarn 1115 Denier / 58 fibers with a three-lobed cross-section.
Polymer nylon 6 from examples 3-6, as well as industrial nylon 6 (nylon 6, i1! Tash16 B®, manufactured by BASF, Moii1 ииνβ, N1) is extruded at 260-265 ° C. Through volumetric dosing machines, a gray opaque concentrate in a mixture with an appropriate amount of nylon chips is fed to the spinning machine. The extruded filaments are cooled and cured with a current of air cooled to 15 ° C. After applying the finish, the threads are pulled out with a draw ratio of 3.3 and give texture, passing through a texturing die at 215 ° C. The yarns are obtained at a pulling roller speed of about 2350 m / min.
Example 8. Preservation of strength after ultraviolet irradiation.
Opaque gray solution-dyed yarns from Example 7 are exposed in an ANak C165 \ Shea11-Oteler® weigh gauge at 2125 kJ with an increment of 425 kJ under the conditions determined by the AATCC test method 16-1993, Color stability in light, option E. The strength of each thread is determined before exposure and after each increase in exposure by 425 kJ. The preservation of strength in percent after each increase in exposure is shown in FIG. 1. These results show a significant increase in the stored strength of TAJ-containing polymers, especially ADC / TAJ-polymers. The strength of industrial nylon 6 drops sharply during exposure, while TAD-containing polymers retain more than 85% of their strength after exposure at 2125 kJ.
Example 9. Yellowing plates, determined by the method OM 8AE L885.
The polymer of examples 3-6, as well as industrial nylon 6 (nylon 6, 1! Tash16 V®, manufactured by BASF, Moii1 O1B g e. N1) is melted in an injection molding machine at about 265 ° C. Molten polymer is poured into the mold, getting the plate 110mmx110mmx3mm. Then these plates are cut into smaller ones, each measuring 55 mm x 110 mm x 3 mm.
The plates are then exposed to the ANak C165 Hepop-Aks ^ ea-yet-Ote®et® tester for 1000 h (1410 kJ) with an increase (increment of 141 kJ) every 100 h according to the conditions determined by the OM 8АE 11885 test method. Exposed plates they check for yellowing (or Delta b *, where a higher Delta b * value is an indicator of the greater yellowing of the sample) for each increase in exposure on a color spectrophotometer, Aprneb Soyl 8uk. The results of these measurements are shown graphically in FIG. 2. The results show that the commercial polymer nylon 6 and the comparative polymer with the TPA / 0.15% TAJ regulator noticeably turn yellow when exposed. Although exposure to PPK / TAD-polymer causes less yellowing than in the case of industrial polymer nylon 6 and a comparative polymer with a TPA / 0.15% TAJ regulator, exposure to ADC / TAD polymers gives only minimal yellowing.
Although the invention has been described only in relation to what is currently regarded as the practically most important and preferred form of its implementation, it should be understood that it is not limited to it, but on the contrary, it covers various modifications and equivalents consistent with the spirit of the present invention and included in scope of claims as defined by claims.
