Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an internal combustion engine including an exhaust receiver capable of restricting oscillation effectively. CONSTITUTION: An internal combustion engine with a large constant-pressure turbocharger is provided with a number of cylinders 1 having the first longitudinal axes apart by the first fixed distance D along the longitudinal direction, two out of the cylinders have the second longitudinal axes apart by the second much longer distance E. The cylinders are connected to a common exhaust receiver 13 through the corresponding exhaust gas ducts. The receiver is divided into, at least, two receiver sections 13a, 13b between the two exhaust gas ducts and the sections are linked to each other by a flow passage 24 with a small cross-sectional area. The dividing part of the exhaust receiver 13 is located between the two cylinders which are apart by the first distance. Two end plates 28, 29 are provided which have such a length as they can locate the dividing part between an arbitrary pair of cylinders without changing the distance between cylinders. It is thus possible to divide the exhaust receiver at the optimal location reducing the oscillation of the receiver.
