Description

Technical field
The present invention relates to a single-wheeled all-terrain wheelchair designed to enable a mobility-impaired person to go strolling, hiking, trekking, running and the like with the help of two attendants.
This type of wheelchair is known under the trade name Joélette.
Prior art
The all-terrain chair known under the trade name Joélette is a transport device generally comprising only one wheel, which makes it easy to move around even in the narrowest paths. The seat, to be adapted according to the passenger’s handicap, is placed above the central wheel. Stretchers at the front and back allow two attendants to roll the transport device and to carry it if necessary.
This device is in particular equipped with a suspension, a system making it possible to adjust the height of the stretchers depending on the slope, and a brake.
It is preferably lightweight and foldable, which makes it easy to store and transport.
This transport device comprises a stand system, preferably two at the back and one at the front. These stands are set up while the passenger is being installed in his seat and during his getting down to give some stability to the device. Once the passenger is installed, in use, these stands are folded back in order to be retracted.
However, this stand system is unsatisfactory because it offers precarious stability to the device. Finally, the stand system is impractical because each of the stands must be handled manually and independently, both during their installation and during their retraction, which represents laborious manipulations, and all the more so when the attendants must simultaneously maintain the transport device in position.
Description of the invention
The aim of the present invention is therefore to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art by proposing a new all-terrain chair, which is equipped with a safer and more practical utilization system for stabilizing the transport device during the getting up or down of the passenger.
The aims assigned to the invention are achieved by means of a transport device for a person, in particular with impaired mobility, comprising the following means: - a framework equipped with a hub receiving at least one wheel mounted in a fork, and with a seat fastened above the wheel and designed to receive the person, said device further comprising: - a wheel cradle pivotally fastened to the framework via its top end by means of a pivot pin, so that the wheel cradle can tilt about said pivot pin between a travel dynamic position for the transport device and a ground bearing stationary position in which the person can get up or get down, during which tilting the transport device is moved forwards or backwards relative to the wheel(s), which remain in contact with the ground; and - a shock-absorber fastened between the hub of the wheel(s) and the hinge top end of the wheel cradle, so that the wheel cradle, the fork receiving the wheel(s) and the shock-absorber form a triangular structure.
The transport device has a ground bearing element disposed at the bottom end of a leg structure fastened to the framework, at the seat, and in front of the wheel(s).
In the stationary position, the transport device advantageously rests on the ground, in particular by the bearing element and by the horizontal bearing device, which provides great stability. The stationary positioning is carried out by simply pushing forward the transport device while braking the wheel or wheels, which is simple and fast.
According to an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the device comprises a bearing element disposed at the bottom of the wheel cradle, the said element being provided with at least one bearing shoe at the connection point between the fork and the wheel cradle.
In one embodiment of the invention, the wheel cradle has a conformation that curves back through substantially one quarter of a circle.
According to an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the fork extends rearwards at a right angle at the bottom end of the wheel cradle.
According to an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the bearing element has chocking shoes so that, while the transport device is tilting into the stationary position, the chocking shoes of the ground bearing device are in contact with the ground when the bearing element mounted on the bottom portion of the wheel cradle is itself bearing on the ground.
According to an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the wheel cradle includes a locking mechanism enabling to immobilize it on the frame, for greater safety of the device. This locking mechanism can be a locking mechanism with a pin, particularly simple and quick to use.
Brief description of the drawings
Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will appear more clearly on reading the following description, made with reference to the accompanying drawings, given by way of non-limiting examples, in which: figure 1 is a front perspective view of a transport device according to the invention in the rolling position; figure 2 is a rear perspective view of a transport device according to the invention in the rolling position; figures. 3 to 5 are profile views illustrating the steps of placing the stabilization system of a transport device according to the invention; figure 6 is a detailed view of the part circled in figure 3; and figure 7 is a detailed view of the part circled in figure 5.
Embodiment(s) of the invention
The structurally and functionally identical elements present in several distinct figures are assigned the same numerical or alphanumeric reference.
The transport device (1), in particular for mobility-impaired persons, comprises a framework (2) on which is mounted at least one wheel (3) equipped with brakes. It also comprises a seat (4) fixed to the framework (2) above the wheel (3) designed to receive a passenger. The seat (4) is equipped with lateral arms (5) fixed to the framework (2). It is surmounted by a headrest (6), which is tiltable and adjustable in height, fixed to the back of the seat (4).
The transport device (1) according to the invention also comprises a first stretcher (7) fixed to the framework (2) and directed towards the front. This front stretcher (7) comprises a pair of arms (8) parallel each equipped with an ergonomic handle (9) at their free end. These arms (8) are removable.
At the back, the transport device (1) according to the invention also comprises a second stretcher (10), namely a back stretcher (10), in the form of a handlebar (11) fixed in an articulated manner to the framework (2) and directed towards the back. This handlebar (11) comprises a pair of arms (12) parallel, of which the right one is equipped for example, with a brake handle (13) at its free end, which operates a brake of the wheel (3). The handlebar (11) is tilt-adjustable with respect to the seat (4) by an adjusting means (14), for example in the form of a serrated stem (15) fixed between the back of the backrest of the seat (4) and a crossbar (16) connecting the arms (12) of the handlebar (11) operated by a left lever. At their free end, the arms (12) of the handlebar (11) can also be connected by a transverse strap (17) serving as an abdominal thrust device for the attendant at the back.
The transport device (1) according to the invention also comprises a footrest (18) positionally-adjustable mounted on a leg structure (19). The footrest (18) has straps (20) for securing the passenger's feet.
The leg structure (19) has a conformation that curves back one quarter of a circle and is fixed to the framework (2) by its top part, above the wheel (3), so as to extend in front of the wheel (3) as a mudguard. In the preferred case where this leg structure (19) does not act as a protection against the projections coming from the wheel (3), a mudguard (21) can be mounted above the wheel (3) to fulfill this specific role.
In its lower part, the leg structure (19) comprises a device (22) for bearing on the ground (23). This bearing device (22) comprises a horizontal crossbar (24) equipped with two chocking shoes (25).
The central wheel(s) (3) is/are mounted on the framework (2) by means of a wheel cradle (37) having a conformation that curves back through substantially one quarter of a circle.
The wheel cradle (37) is pivotally fastened to the framework (2) via its top end by means of a pivot hinge (26). It comprises a fork (27) directed towards the back, which extends at a right angle to its lower end. This fork (27) comprises a pair of arms (28), which are fixed at their free end to each side of the wheel or wheels (3) at the hub (29) thereof. A shock-absorber (30) is also fixed between the hub (29) of the wheel or wheels (3) and the top end of the wheel cradle (37) so that the wheel cradle (37), the fork (27), and the shock-absorber (30) form a triangular structure.
By means of the pivot hinge (26), this triangular structure can pivot backwards at the top end of the wheel cradle (37), between a dynamic rolling position for the transport device (1) and a stationary position of getting up and getting down of the passenger.
In the dynamic rolling position of the transport device (1) according to the invention, the triangular structure is positioned so that the wheel cradle (37) is substantially horizontal above the wheel (3), with the fork (27) positioned at the front of the hub (29) of the wheel (3) and the shock-absorber (30) located at the back of the hub (29) of the wheel (3), the lower free ends of the fork (27) and of the shock-absorber (30) being at the bottom of the triangular structure. In this dynamic position, the free corner (31) of the triangular structure which forms the connection between the fork (27) and the wheel cradle (37) and which is not fixed to the wheel (3) or to the framework (2) is then directed towards the front.
In the stationary position of the transport device (1) according to the invention, the triangular structure is positioned so that the wheel cradle (37) is substantially vertical in front of the wheel (3), with the fork (27) located under the hub (29) of the wheel (3) and the shock-absorber (30) located above the hub (29) of the wheel (3), the lower free ends of the fork (27) and the shock-absorber (30) being directed towards the back with respect to the assembly. In this stationary position, the free corner (31) defined above is then directed downwards and bears on the ground (23).
It will be noted that the free corner (31) of the triangular structure is equipped with a bearing element (32) on its external periphery in order to protect it and to improve the stability of its bearing on the ground (23). This bearing element (32) comprises a support shoe (33) located at the point of connection between the fork (27) and the wheel cradle (37).
The transition from the dynamic position to the stationary position of the transport device (1) according to the invention is done by tilting backwards the wheel cradle (37) around the pivot hinge (26).
During this tilting, the transport device (1) according to the invention is moved forward and lowered with respect to the wheel (3), which remains stationary on the ground (23). These movements are represented by arrows in figures 3 and 4.
During the tilting in stationary position of the transport device (1), the chocking shoes (25) of the support device (22) on the ground (23) are in contact with the ground (23) when the bearing element (32) mounted on the lower part of the wheel cradle (37) is itself resting on the ground (23).
The transport device (1) according to the invention is then placed in a very stable position on the ground (23) at four points, namely at the level of the two chocking shoes (25), the wheel (3) and the bearing element (32) provided between the fork (27) and the wheel cradle (37), thereby permitting the passenger to get up or down in a safe manner.
To switch from the stationary position to the dynamic position of the transport device (1) according to the invention, the tilting of the wheel cradle (37) around the pivot joint (26) is done in reverse, namely forward.
The return to the initial position of the wheel cradle (37) can be facilitated by a resilient return device (34) comprising a spring (35) fixed between the wheel cradle (37) and the framework (2) at the pivot hinge (26).
In order to avoid any risk of accidental tilting of the wheel cradle (37) when the transport device (1) according to the invention is in dynamic position, the wheel cradle (37) comprises a locking mechanism (36) enabling to immobilize it on the framework (2). This locking mechanism (36), as shown in figure 6, is a locking mechanism (36) with a pin.
To switch from the dynamic position to the stationary position of the transport device (1) according to the invention: - the wheel (3) is braked; - the locking mechanism (36) of the wheel cradle (37) is unlocked; - the transport device (1) according to the invention is pushed forward, which causes the wheel cradle (37) to tilt and the transport device (1) to be brought closer to the ground (23); and - the transport device (1) according to the invention is pushed forward until the chocking shoes (25) and the bearing shoe (33) bear against the ground (23).
Conversely, to switch from the stationary position to the dynamic position of the transport device (1): - the wheel (3) is braked; - the transport device (1) according to the invention is pulled backwards, which causes the wheel cradle (37) to tilt and the transport device (1) to be brought away from the ground (23); - the transport device (1) according to the invention is pulled backwards until the wheel cradle (37) is against the framework (2), in the position suitable for locking; and - the locking mechanism (36) of the wheel cradle (37) is locked.
In both cases, it is then sufficient to release the braking of the wheel (3) in order to then use or move the transport device (1) according to the invention.
It is evident that the present description is not limited to the examples explicitly described, but also includes other embodiments and/or implementations. Thus, a technical characteristic described can be replaced by an equivalent technical characteristic while remaining within the scope of the present invention and a described step of implementing the method can be replaced by an equivalent step while remaining within the scope the invention.
